Toadtally Us: My Somethings

For some reason I really wanted to follow the “somethings” tradition. You know: Something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue. Do I think it’ll bring me luck? Not really, I just wanted to follow it. But at the same time I never obsessed over it…I didn’t look up and down for the perfect and meaningful “something old” as other brides do, or look for for anything specific, really. I didn’t stress over it and just thought things would fall into place, and they did.

Something new: My dress.

My dress was custom made by local designer Marisol Naserau, inspired by Alcanar by Pronovias. On my last dress fitting (over a month before our wedding), I didn’t love my dress, thinking it wasn’t as flow-y as I wanted it to be.

I never put the dress on after that appointment (since it’s laced-up it was going to fit and we knew the length was right by then), so when I pinned the crinoline inside the dress for pictures and finally looked at it, I just gasped. The crinoline I got was bigger than the one I tried on and it looked gorgeous. It was just perfect.

Something borrowed: Earrings.

You might recognize my earrings from Mrs. Pony’s wedding. She graciously offered to lend them to me to wear at my wedding.

I was excited for different reasons; first, I love them. I remember looking at them on her recaps and gasping—they are gorgeous. Second, I was so honored to have my something borrowed from another bee. None of my friends are married and for some reason I really wanted my something borrowed to be from a married lady. Third, I am (and this is embarrassing) Mrs. Pony’s fan—you know how, when you’re addicted to WB you have a few super favorite bloggers (no?”¦ just me?)? She’s one of mine…shhh don’t tell her, I’ll die of mortification.

Something old: My necklace.

The original plan was to wear the necklace that Mrs. Pony lent to me with the earrings, but I forgot to put them on. So I totally made up the story about my little heart being my something old, however, now that I think about it, it fits.

My mom gave me this little white gold heart necklace when I turned 15 and for some reason I never take it off. I shower, sleep and swim with it, and only take it off when, for some special occasion, I’m going to wear a different necklace.

But hey! It’s old for me as I’ve been wearing it almost non-stop for almost nine years. It’s part of me, and now I am glad I had that part of everyday life with me.

Something blue: Garter

My mom sewed a blue bow into that piece of lace I called a garter so it’d be my something blue. So, my something blue was my garter, never mind I forgot to wear it during the ceremony.

So now I convince myself that I actually wore something blue, as I wrote my vows in blue ink and carried them with me.

Don’t mind my awful handwriting, I’ll tell you about it later.

A piece of the hive:

As many before me, I had the honor of wearing a pair of bees on my wedding day. Bees #1 & #2 were sent to me by the lovely Mrs. Archer and had a place of honor in my bouquet.

But that just wasn’t enough. I really wanted my moniker charm, so I got Rachel from the local business Mi mundo de Peluche (the girl who sculpted our cake topper) to make it. I sent her the image of my Toadstool and she gave me this:

It was supposed to be 25 pesos (about $2.00 USD), but due to the delay with the topper she made it free (!).

My little Toadstool spend the day hanging from my wooden bouquet, and it is still there as part of our home décor.

Are you following/did you follow the “somethings” tradition?

Love your little toadstool! I thought about doing something similar but totally ran out of time to track down a little armadillo charm…jealous!
