Throughout the night, I was marveling at how well everything was going. Everyone was having fun. I was having fun. But all good things do come to an end. As 10:00 swiftly moved to 11:00 and crept closer to midnight, guests came up to say goodnight and start their journeys home. For our special helpers, my sisters and the quartet, we had a special “mini” cheesecake for them to take home. I asked Matt to play Elvis’s “Can’t Help Fallin’ in Love” as our last dance, and called everyone who was left to the dance floor. Joyce took care of logistical things like where the gifts went and the final bill. (We met our minimum and only exceeded it by $10!)
Mr. Genie and I walked back across the street to our hotel. There were some logistical things that I didn’t really think about, and we had to take care of them before getting some sleep. The two main things were: Who is going to return Mr. Genie’s tux? and How is my dress getting home? We wearily figured these things out with Best Man B’s and MOH Wino’s help. Do yourself a favor and get that stuff figured out if you’re leaving at 5:00 AM the next morning for your honeymoon. Mr. Genie opened his gift and read his letter at this time. And we started to recall our favorite memories of the day. We quickly realized that our flight was leaving very early, and we needed to be awake even earlier than that. So, with that, our wedding day was over.
This past weekend, we celebrated our first anniversary. It’s hard to believe that it’s already been a year since we got married. Some things stayed the same. Some things changed. We moved twice. We had a second reception (recaps coming soon!). We celebrated being together for 10 years. But we agree that even though the first year was tougher than we expected, the best part was having each other to hold on to.
Our delicious dessert last night
Mr. Genie, I love looking at our pictures and reliving the wedding days in my recaps, but I really just love you, and I am thankful that every day since has been made better because I start my day with you and end my day with you. Thank you and happy anniversary!
