One thing that I’ve loved about wedding planning is that it has given me a really good excuse to be crafty. You’ve already seen my reception shoes, and my corks, plus the save the dates we designed/put together.
I happened to see the craft I’m sharing with you today on Pinterest, from a blog called Something Turquoise. I’m intending to gift these to my lovely bridesmaids so that they have something to wear while we’re all getting ready on the day of the wedding.
For this craft you will need:
First: cut your cardboard to a size that will fit inside your tank tops. Then line it with wax paper and tape it down.
Second: take your cardboard and put it inside your tank top.
Third: Using your Clorox pen, write your desired word on the tank top.
Fourth: Let the bleach sit for 10 minutes or so (it may take longer, depending on the shirt you used). Once you’re happy with the bleaching, carefully rinse the bleach off.
Fifth: Use some dish soap to wash the area and then rinse. (This stops the bleaching.) If science is making sense in your house, you’ll have bleach in the same way you wrote with the pen. If chemistry is existing in an alternate universe like it was in mine the day I did this, you’ll end up with a bleach outline.
Seriously. I have no idea why it bleached around the bleach instead of under it…
Sixth: Wash and dry the tank tops according to the normal wash instructions. Then you’re done!
So, they may not be the fanciest shirts, but I’m happy with how they turned out! Since I imagine they’ll only get one day’s worth of wear (unless they become pajama/workout shirts) I’m glad I didn’t pay an insane amount of money for them. (I got the tank tops on sale at Old Navy for $7 each.)
What are you planning to wear while you get ready? What do you think of my tank tops? Does chemistry and/or physics ever stop working in your house?
