Great White

Brides wear white, right? That’s what we do? I know wearing colors other than white has become increasingly popular, but I would like to keep this part of my journey somewhat old-school and wear as much white as possible to wedding-related events. I own one pair of white pants and a few white tops and that’s it—certainly no white dresses. Considering I am planning on wearing a white dress for at least three occasions (bridal shower, bachelorette, rehearsal dinner), this leaves me in a bit of a bind.

Enter: Rent the Runway. I can spend less on a dress than I would if I bought it, and then it wouldn’t be staring me in the face post-wedding. I do plan on buying a few white pieces for the honeymoon (don’t worry, I will not be decked out in all white all honeymoon long), but I love the idea of renting most of my needed white dresses.

First up and the most important/most pressing event—my bridal shower. It is close and I’ve been putting off making a decision, so I thought I’d put it to the hive for some input. Here are my current contenders:

#1: BCBGMAXAZRIA, Mazari Palm

I really, really like this dress. Is it too formal for a 2:00 shower, though? Will the sort-of-peplum make my hips look big?

#2: Lilly Pulitzer, Touch of Sugar

Image via RTR

I like how this dress isn’t all white. One of the best features of RTR is that you can see how this looks on real people, which makes me think this dress wouldn’t be as short on me.

#3: Lela Rose, Stamp of Approval

Ahhhh, I love this dress! The problem? It is $225. To rent it! Seriously? Next…

#4: Shoshanna, June

Image via RTR

This dress is so cute! I think I love how it has white but isn’t a “white dress.” This could be a top contender…

#5: Erin by Erin Fetherston, Wedding Cake

Image via RTR

The customer photos are all super cute—the dress has a bit more shine to it than this picture shows. All of the reviews mention one problem, though—the straps are awkwardly long. No one really seemed to find it to be a problem they couldn’t solve themselves, but wouldn’t I rather just get a dress that fits normally?

Or should I just scrap the whole “white” thing and go for yellow or a light pink?

#6: ML Monique Lhuillier, Ever After

#7: Shoshanna, Watermelon Punch

#8: Shoshanna, Ikat Swirl

Image via RTR

#9: Trina Turk, Pretty Pink Applique

Ahhh, too many choices and not enough time. This is why I need your help! Which dress do you think is best for a 2:00 Saturday bridal shower? Should I wear white or not? Should I just go shopping instead of risking renting something? Help! :)

I LOVE Rent the Runway! Def planning on using them for my wedding! My two faves are:

#5: Erin by Erin Fetherston, Wedding Cake

#6: ML Monique Lhuillier, Ever After

Are you fairly confident in your size? If so, order one and then get the other one for $25! That way you have two options incase the long straps on the Erin Fetherston bother you! And, if you have another event that weekend, you can always wear the other dress if you like it enough!

I like #4 Shoshanna, June! It has a little bit of white but also blue kind of like the “something blue” for your bridal shower :)

I love the first one. I’ve been wearing peplums lately and I don’t think they make the hips wider. #2 is a strong contender also!

I love #4, especially since it’s not technically an “all white” dress. Good luck picking!

You should check out… you might find some similar styles at reasonable prices, and they have a lot of white/ivory options. I got my engagement photo (, shower, and rehearsal dresses there, and anything over $50 ships free. They have a lot of cute stuff on sale right now. I don’t know about you, but I love a good sale! If you decide to go with one of these, that yellow Lhuillier is DARLING, and this is coming from someone who never wears yellow (I can’t pull it off, but with your coloring, you’d look great)!

I think we all know #4 is the one for you – you even sound most enthusiastic about it!

DEFINITELY #4 June! It’s beautiful, it’s white with “something blue,” and it’s fancy yet appropriate for a 2:00 shower. 110% June!!!

@JrzyGurl: They’re the best, aren’t they?? Thanks for your input and for the tip!
@Claire: I hadn’t even thought of that, love it!
@HereComesHoneyBeeBee: Yeah, I just wish I could actually try it on beforehand to guarantee I didn’t run into a hip situation…

I love the first option, and don’t think that the peplums would be unflattering OR too fancy. But they’re all great options, you can’t go wrong!

i’m obsessed with #9! i love pastels for brides. i think they’re easier to wear and really sweet/bridal without being BRIDAL.
i’m wearing a soft mint dress with a nude underlay to my shower. but i did purchase an ivory dress from Asos for my bachie : )

I would totally go for #2 :) But I love me some color. I don’t plan on wearing any fully white clothing until the day of the wedding, it’s just not who I am (bride or not!)

My vote is for #3 or #5 (stamp of approval or wedding cake). In my opinion you should wear as much white as possible during all of the festivities leading up to your wedding! I love little white dresses, and a bridal shower is a great excuse to wear one. I just found two adorable white dresses at a local boutique (one for the rehearsal, one for my shower) and I already have a one shoulder lace white dress for bachelorette festivities!

    : @Miss Bicycle:
You’re welcome! Just be careful, it’s addicting! And they have really great customer service, too. Btw, here’s one of the ivory dresses I chose… not sure which event I’ll be using it for yet, but it’s really cute!

I love number 1. I think peplum is great for a shower.

Love #3 but since that isn’t a realistic option die to the cost #1 gets my vote!
