Our Vendors: Videography

As with our photographers, Mr. Wellies and I only had one choice for our videographer. The difference was we didn’t originally plan to have a videographer at all! We believed photos would sufficiently capture the day; moreover, professional videographer packages were expensive, and we thought the money would be better spent elsewhere. Then, my friend Jessica posted her wedding video on Facebook, and I immediately became a videographer convert.

Paul + Jessica | Highlight | Atlanta, Georgia from Adam Siegel on Vimeo.

Can we talk about how awesome this wedding video is? It perfectly balances the fun aspects of the day with the more emotional moments, simultaneously making me laugh and bringing tears to my eyes. You can feel the love radiating from everyone, especially the happy couple. (And yes, that’s Ian Somerhalder officiating the ceremony!)

While some brides think their wedding video will sit on a shelf and collect dust, I knew that wouldn’t be the case with us. Home videos are very important to my family. The majority of our inside jokes come from videos of me and my sister when we were children; my sister even got our old home video tapes transferred to DVDs for my mom. Mr. Wellies, being his tech-savvy self, was able to make copies of the DVDs for me, and I watch them all the time. I knew I would regret not having a video of our wedding. After talking it over with Mr. Wellies and rearranging our budget, I sent Adam at Siegel Films an email. Even though he’s based in South Carolina, Mr. Wellies and I were willing to fly him out to Pennsylvania—that’s how good this guy is. Our determination paid off: Once we informed Adam of our budget constraints, he threw in a documentary edit for free! Watching the wedding videos of my favorite elopements makes me even more excited to have a video of our own. We can’t wait to work with Adam and see how he captures our day.

Did you ever change your mind about hiring a vendor?

    OMG Ian Somerhalder!!! *squee*
Sorry… the fan in me couldn’t resist! LOL

I was in the same situation as you did about video. I thought “we’re never gonna watch the video”, “We can’t spend one more dollar in this wedding” but we did it! Somehow we made it fit the budget and we have a vid. And we made it a tradition to watch it on every anniversary, which is less than a month away ^^

I’m happy you decided to have videography, it is an awesome thing to have since pictures not always capture everything, like when my voice broke a bit during my vows.

Ok that is the first time a wedding video has ever made me tear up. *wipes eyes*
    Far to sweet.
I think you may have just fully convinced me that I need a wedding video as well.

@cosmo_gmr: Happy (early) Anniversary! :) Our videography package includes footage of the entire ceremony; it was very important for us to have that captured with video, in addition to photos.
@MissGoldFish: Their reactions are one of my favorite parts! :)
@solsticedark: If this video doesn’t convince you, nothing will. ;)
    @luluvohn: 1. I KNOW, RIGHT?! 2. I think he’s a family friend.
@ilikeballet: All of Adam’s videos are amazing. We can’t wait to work with him! :)

OK, that does it! Now I officially must find the funds so that my daughter can have video of her day. Thanks for the inspiration!

The bride is Ian’s assistant… it was bugging me so I did a bit of creeping. I could see other cast members from VD and was curious if they were cast/crew/staff etc.

@Angelwinged: We felt the exact same way about finding the right style. I’m thrilled that you’ve contacted Adam. Best of luck! :D

I also didn’t think we had it in our budget and changed my mind because I knew we would regret not having it. Well, we just got out trailer back and I honestly think I love it more than the pictures! So many moments were captured in a way that pictures simply cannot. I really think you’ll be happy with your decision, and I’m glad you were able to negotiate to make it fit your budget! We did the same thing :)
Also. Ian. So much sexy Ian. He’s my number one celebrity crush, loved him since he was on that show Young Americans like 10 years ago, lol. Pictures of Ian were all inside my locker in high school :)
