Scent of a Woman

Let’s put wedding fragrance into the, “Crap I Wish I Didn’t Care About but Can’t Seem to Get Over” category—shall we??

I wish perfume still came in bottles like this!! / Image via Annapolitan Bride

My go-to scents for the past few years are:

(all images below via Sephora)

Dior – J’adore

Givenchy – Ange ou Demon Le Secret

Marc Jacobs – Oh, Lola!

A million bees before me have made the argument for a “new wedding scent” by stating that our memory is so deeply tied to our sense of smell and they want that scent to always remind them of their special day; there is definitely something to that. Every time I smell Bath and Body Works’ Sun-Ripened Raspberry I think of me in junior high spritzing that shit on every 10 minutes. Every 10 minutes because that’s about how long the scent lasted…

When it comes to my wedding day, the perfectionist in me (after perfectly plucking her eyebrows and flossing her teeth) says, “Yes. You NEED a wedding fragrance. Duh!” while the budgeter in me (after getting off the phone with the local cable company to get her bill lowered another $30 a month) says, “ULGH, no! What a waste of cash—use one you already have!”

Who do I listen to, hive? I’m so torn!! While I love “my” scents—they feel so everyday to me now. Do I start anew for the big day or keep it real with Marc, Givenchy, or Dior???

I love having a fancy, slightly musky wedding day scent that I wear when we get all dressed up – it always reminds me of our wedding day! And it’s eau de parfum so it’s a little stronger than my other perfumes (including the Oh, Lola – love that too!) and leaves me dreaming back on the wedding day. I think you should be bad and splurge on a new scent :) and get a small trial size to take on your honeymoon!

Agreed! Splurge! Better yet, have you thought about making the purchase on Amazon? I just purchased my wedding day scent for HALF THE PRICE from amazon. No, do not buy from another seller ON amazon, but AMAZON itself. You can trust that amazon-sold perfumes will be the real deal.

We actually just bought our wedding day scents a few weeks ago. I think its a great idea and in the grand scheme of things….its not that much $ compared to the rest of the wedding. Plus, it really will bring you back to that time and you can wear it on special occasions with your hubby in the future. I can’t wait for this :)

We are giving this and a few other gifts to one another for the wedding. He chose Montblanc Legend (OMG I am going to want to jump him on the wedding night lol, it smells SO GOOD!) and he actually chose Jessica Simpson Vintage Bloom for me. Tomorrow is 1 month to the day! So excited!!!

Find a perfume you like/want to buy and then get a sample bottle to wear on your wedding day. Then you can splurge after the wedding when you have more money! :)

I love the idea of wedding day scent, I think you should definitely do it. I wish I could have one but sadly I have yet to find a perfume that doesn’t give me a massive headache within an hour of putting it on :(. The closest I can come is using scented lotions etc.

I don’t wear perfume that often, so instead of buying something new for the wedding, I’m wearing my “go-to scent.” :)

@Miss Campfire: Hello best idea ever. Maybe to make it even more sweet, hint at your new hubby to buy you the bottle for your 1st anniversary.

Looks like we have similar taste in perfumes! I love J’Adore and Oh, Lola!

I think you should stick with J’Adore because the name is sweet/wedding-y and it’s a scent that’s already very “you.”

If you want a suggestion, try Chloe. The bottle is very pretty and it smells romantic!

We splurged…found complimenting scents to wear on the wedding day. Admittedly, my FI knows A LOT about fragrances, so it was his idea. I based my choice on a scent that totally reminded my of my father’s mother, whom I was very close to. She passed away 15 years ago, but I felt that having the scent would make me feel like she was there on my day.

Am I the cheapest person in the world for considering a stop at Nordstrom the morning of my wedding to sample-steal my wedding day fragrance?

I gag a little bit when I smell sun ripened raspberry– I sprayed that on way too much in high school!

I splurged on a wedding day scent (my husband and I picked it out together), and I have only worn it 3 times since the wedding since I want it to be for “special” days. All 3 times my husband has immediately noticed and commented on how nice it smells, and then we (or maybe just I lol) spend a few sappy minutes remembering our wedding day. I say do it! It’s one “splurge” that you will actually use again after the wedding, that was my justification!

I’m gonna be in the minority and say use one you already have. I did, and it brought such a touch of normality to my day getting to smell the familiar scent throughout. I’m very picky about smells and just didn’t find anything that I LOVED so I stuck with my tried and true favourite. It could be your something old 😉
    I like @Miss Campfire: ‘s idea too!
