Linked with Love: Cake

I already shared our reception details with you, but I held out on one of my favorite elements: our cake! Our bakery, Piece of Cake, made my dream design come to life. Every single detail. They even matched the butter cream icing to the color of my wedding gown.

Beautiful lace details

Classic cake plateau from our bakery

Before cutting our cake, Mr. Bracelet briefly thanked our guests for coming to our wedding and celebrating with us. Many people traveled quite far (across oceans) just to be there.

…aaaaand then it was time to cut the cake. There was some fumbling with our cake knife before the cutting. I suddenly remembered, “Hey, there’s a tradition about how to hold the knife together. How DO you hold the knife?!?!” Well, common sense regarding ‘traditional’ gender roles prevailed, as we settled on my hand on the knife and Mr. Bracelet’s on top of mine (Apparently we did it right; see this Wikihow on cake cutting).

(You can also see our cocktail napkins lying in wait)

And what happens if the bride is very excited about the cake? Yes, the home shopping TV presentation pose. ;)

I made it very clear to Mr. Bracelet that there would be no smashing. If I’m wearing an expensive dress, I will not condone any activities that could lead to doing something bad to it! But he’s an easygoing fellow who completely understood where I was coming from.

Yuuummy red velvet

We opted to have a display cake (only the top tier was real/edible) combined with sheet cake for our guests. Our decision not to do a traditional wedding cake was more about the ease of serving everyone a slice than about saving money. Shortly after we cut our cake, the catering staff was already serving cake to our guests. We ate our cake together with our guests.

What is your dream wedding cake? What flavor did you choose?

What a beautiful cake! It’s simple, but… not simple. I love the texture.
