Wolves’ Winter Wedding: Donuts and a Final Dance

This post is a little out of order, but I figured I’d end the recaps with one of the better decisions we made: donuts.

If you recall, I made the decision early to get donuts instead of a wedding cake. It was cheap & delicious, and the proximity of the Krispy Kreme was too convenient to pass up. I think this is sort of trendy now, but for very good reason.

I borrowed some cool platters from my ‘maids (they’re vintage plates attached to upside down vintage goblets) and my coordinator got them all out. I ordered 12 dozen—mostly glazed, but because we were so close to Valentine’s Day they had some appropriate heart-shaped ones.

These were a HUGE hit. Plus”¦they were less than $70. Compare that to your typical cake prices—SO worth it. I thought not having cake meant that we wouldn’t have that feed-each-other moment, but our photographer called us over to do it. We hadn’t talked about it at all, but luckily Wolfman knew not to smash any glazed donut on my face”¦

They were so good.

Fast forward through to party time”¦I was having SO much fun. So was everyone else. There was a moment around a quarter to 11 (so, 15 minutes before we had to leave) where everyone”¦including both our grandmothers”¦was dancing hard to Jay Z’s “Big Pimpin’” (unedited, I might add), and I was both SO happy but also cognizant that it was almost over. Wolfman must have felt the same thing because he found me on the dance floor for the last two songs (tracks seven and eight), “We Found Love” and “Daisy.”

Playlist via 8tracks Radio.

Our DJ actually had played the Rihanna song already, but I had to hear it again. (Seriously, is there a better dance song?) We’d chosen “Daisy” as our last song months ago—we loved how upbeat and happy it was. Once it started, Wolfman and I started jumping up and down like crazy and a circle slowly formed around us. I normally avoid things like that, but I was so caught up in the moment. These were my last few minutes as a bride and I wanted to make the most of it.

In the last 30 seconds or so, Wolfman picked up his wife, twirled her around, and planted a big one on her, movie style.

Guest photo.

This picture is blurry, and dark, and small, but it’s one of my favorites from the night. Everyone clapped, we took a bow”¦and it was over.

Everyone went next door to the hotel bar—we were supposed to have reserved seating, but there was miscommunication at the hotel. But the bar wasn’t crowded so it wasn’t a big deal. (OK, I did get a little mad.) Wolfman and I stayed out for a little bit, but went up to our fancy room, drank another glass of champagne, went to bed”¦and that was that.

Later, BM A gifted me with this:

Personal photo.

Because even though I love all my pro pics, something about that last late-night blurry photo best captured everything about our wedding.

And now I want a doughnut! They look delicious! I’m not crazy about traditional wedding cake either (even though we had one). I love when people have different desserts at their weddings!

Oh, wow! That picture is amazing! I, too, love my blurry, end-of-night pictures. That’s totally how I remember my wedding: fast, fun, and a little chaotic.

I love that you didn’t do cake! Sure it looks nice but really, I would rather eat a donut over wedding cake any day! :)
