Santa and I have a lot in common these days. We both share a love of red clothing and we both have a lot of lists to check…and check…and check.
I carry multiple lists with me at all times—it might stress some people out, but it calms me to see everything down on paper…especially when I get to check things off. As wedding grows nearer, it would make sense that my lists are growing smaller, but they aren’t. Instead, they’re growing…a lot. No longer are the items on my list large and all encompassing like “find venue, pick menu, buy dress.” Instead, it’s “make 12 giant flowers, make eight medium flowers, make 12 small flowers, buy felt, make bridesmaid gift, wrap gift, label gift, pack gift in box labeled gifts, guestbook, menu signs, alter straps, clean guest room, pack bags, wash vases, box up vases…” and on and on. The tiny tasks add up. They’ll all get done in time, but that doesn’t stop me from stressing about it.
Here’s a small sampling of my lists (on stationery I
stole borrowed from my friend Trina):
Just a small sampling of my many, many lists
Guys, I am down to less than two weeks. I feel like (so far) I’ve been pretty calm, but I have moments where I can feel the weight of what I still have to do on me. Fortunately, I have an amazing team group of helpers and I am finally grasping the concept of delegating. I also know that I am someone who does best under pressure, and my nearing deadline (AKA wedding) is helping me focus my attention. Many of the things I have left to do are crafty in nature so my hands are going to be very busy this week. What doesn’t get done may very well get tossed into the eff-it pile but, surprisingly, I am also OK with that.
How did you or are you handling the last few weeks before your wedding?
