Bamboo for Two: The Reception Details

As Cocktail Hour started to wind down, we moved the party into the main room. Since I spent a lot of time working together the details, I thought I’d spend a post just showing the details of the reception.

I am absolutely in love with the mural in the College Club of Boston. It is absolutely gorgeous. Our amazing photographer managed to capture one side of the room inside the mirror of the other side, getting this gorgeous shot.

If you look into the room, you can see that we had six tables with a sweetheart table next to the fireplace.

For our centerpieces, I wanted to do really small centerpieces that would allow people at the table to see around the entire table and because we were doing family style, I had to keep the centerpieces small enough so we could get everything on the table. Furthermore, I wanted the room to be the main focus of the room.

For each centerpiece, I had a bunch of old books and wrapped them with some lace. On top of the stack was the cardboard number I made. You really can’t tell with these pictures, but I was unhappy with how the letters looked after I made them, and the hive suggested to make it shiny. I coated the panted edges with a pearlescent coat, and they look so pretty in real life.

You can’t really tell in the pictures, the the paper flowers were sitting on votive candle holders that had a floral detailing drawn on with chalkboard marker. And yes, that is a zero, because in computer science, often times, you start counting at zero. It was our subtle nerdy addition.

Next I had cloche bell jars and cupcake holders that I used to put birds in. There were two different types of centerpieces. One was nest based, and the other one was a bird/flower based. I am really happy with how they turned out, but oh my gosh, they were a complete pain to transport.

On each place should have been a menu. (They were forgotten, but I made sure each person got one during the meal!) Because we were having an elaborate meal, I wanted to make sure people knew to save room for the whole thing! The menus were made using the motif I had from the rehearsal dinner invitations.

Lastly, our sweetheart table. The sweetheart table was a last minute addition. We originally had planned on sitting with our guests because I felt that a sweetheart table is sometimes a bit isolating. However, due to our seating arrangement, it made way more sense for us to have our own table and I am really glad we did. It was really nice to be able to enjoy a meal with just PBear (for the little bit we did…).

Instead of numbers, I used an ampersand. Also on the table were the little birds that my mom made for us. I had no idea where to put them, and I’m really glad they ended up on our table. They were the perfect little addition.

I also had signs made for our chairs (that literally no one noticed or saw—they were facing the wall the whole time, and were forgotten about when we cleaned up the venue. Oh well.). The signs were inspired by Mrs. Wallaby’s signs and made with the same duct tape and ribbon method. There are a lot of different versions of the signs going around the internet (Bride/Groom, Mr/Mrs, Wife/Husband), but none of them really spoke to me. I chose to go with our nicknames for each other.

And that about wraps it up for details. Let’s head back into the actual reception now, shall we?

I love all of your beautiful details, and I like that you started with “0″ and used an ampersand for your table! Too cute.
You really did a great job at the details, since the place was already very ornate and colorful – I think you perfectly achieved enough decoration to make it look like a wedding but not too much to be overwhelming.

Your venue is probably my favorite I’ve ever seen on the Bee – it is just so stunning! I’m amazed by your centerpieces, especially that one with the yellow bird – there’s an incredible level of detail in every single centerpiece, I can’t even imagine assembling them or moving them to the venue.

Oh and duct tape ftw! haha

    thanks everyone!

@MrsCVsomeday: @Miss Filly: @Mrs. Pony: I agree the detailing seemed to fit absolutely perfectly. I wish I could say I planned all that, but really honestly, I got incredibly lucky! I used the mural for inspiration but I really had no sense of how it would look together. I have no idea how the pros do it!

@Mrs. Waterfall: Oh I love the little tiny ones, but they are sooo expensive! the cloches were definitely a splurge for the wedding

@Mrs. Wallaby: You shouldn’t talk, you had one of my favorite weddings on the hive! That tree you guys got married in front of, *amazing*

@thenextmrsi: Wow, I can’t believe someone who’s an actual member has read my blog! I absolutely looooved the food, but we were one of the last weddings that Jesse did. I’d love to go back to another event with the new chef! It’s such a great place!

@Southernpecan13: aww thank you! I can’t believe other people are liking our little wedding! You’re so sweet!

@Miss Pyramid: I too love the little details. It’s such a little thing and I’m sure not very many guests noticed them anyways, but they’re sitting around our apartment now and they still make me so happy =)
