The Last Ninth

Today, December 9th, will always hold a special place in my heart. Today marks one year since Sphinx got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife on the rooftop of the Contemporary Hotel in Disney World. And eight years ago, we hung out together for the first time and he asked me out on a real date. It’s been eight years of crazy twists, turns, moves, emotions, and lots of hugs.

Even though it’s a little silly, we’ve always recognized the ninth of the month. We don’t give presents every month, but we always try and tell each other “Happy Ninth!” I was the one who started it, after I got up to college and realized how much I missed him. He could have looked at me like a crazy girl…

…but he played along with me instead. And we’ve now gotten to 96 of these months together. We’ll be getting married just after 101 months of dating, and then the clock resets. I suppose we can always acknowledge the date, but we’ll have a whole new anniversary to celebrate together.

For now, I’m a little choked up at this being our last dating anniversary and our only engage-iversary. We’re keeping it low key and grabbing some dinner together, but the date has caused me to be very reflective. While this last year has flown by with dresses, venues, food, and invitations, the heart of all of this is our commitment to each other. It’s sometimes easy to push the relationship aside when there are planning decisions to be made; this is what we’ll have when all of the party stuff is said and done. Living together, planning a wedding together, and just growing up together in the last year has only helped to confirm that Sphinx is absolutely the person I want by my side for every single day going forward. His very presence or voice can cheer me up when I’m having a bad day, and he’s my partner in crime for all of the adventures that we take on.

Dear Sphinx,

I love you with all my heart.

And you’ll only have to deal with crazy bride brain for a little longer. You can handle it, dude.

My SO and I recognize the day (26!) each month too. Maybe it’s a little silly, but we’re not going to stop it. :)

I felt the same way. I think I’ll still feel a little tug of sadness when March 13th passes and we won’t have it as our “real” anniversary.

PS. when the wedding is done and you’re married and ALL you really have to do when you come home is focus on each other and your relationship…it’s amazing!

We used to recognize the 6th but somewhere along the line we stopped doing that… Now that we have the 26th we seem to be doing it again (at least for the one month we’ve been married!). Also, GEAUX SAINTS!

@Mrs. Bicycle: haha the one month you’ve been married is a good start!

@sherryberry: That does sound amazing! And I’m sure you’ll get attached to your new date just fine!

@Mrs. Road Trip: @Mrs. Panda: @Mrs. Camera: @Miss Filly: aaw, thanks you super sweet ladies!

@KtGa: Exactly, it’s just fun and sweet! We’ll usually try to see who can remember it first and send a text.

    So sweet!
Love that you have this day for two occasions!
Our dating anniversary is Jan 1st – my joke is we’ll always be celebrating it (usually with a hangover haha).

Just need to throw this out there – that car image is amaze balls (and creepy!!)

You guys are so sweet! Mr. R and I liked to acknowledge our monthaverseries too – it was a nice way to reflect on how much our relationship had grown.

You guys are so sweet! We also had the same dating and engageaversary (well, they were two days appart, but whatever) and swore up and down that we would continue celebrating the 20th, but it kind of fell by the wayside, except on our actual 10 year dating anniversary a few months back. We do always acknowledge the 15th since we’ve gotten married though. Funny how things change and people adapt!

Cute :) We havn’t recognized months since out first 1 year dating. We do plan to at least acknowledge our yearly dating anniversary even after we’re married. Our first date was the first date we met in person, so it’s always going to be special. No reason we can’t still go “Hey, look what day it is”.

I totally used to keep track of months…and I have every intention of doing something special on 6/17/14, which will be our 10th anniversary since we started dating, and then celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary 5 weeks later in July.

It may be sad it’s the last ninth, but won’t it be cool to say that you’ll be married by your ninth ninth? :)

December 9th is the anniversary of our first date and, four years later, when Paul proposed to me! It’s a great date! :)

We got married in September this year, but we still celebrated our other anniversary as well as, gosh-darn-it, we like any excuse to celebrate! It was a big moment in both of our lives so why shouldn’t we still remember it as such?! This year being together for 6 years and me having my bling for 2?! PERFECT REASON FOR CHAMPAGNE!

So I say keep on remembering and celebrating. After all, if it weren’t for the 9th December, there wouldn’t be a wedding anniversary to celebrate, right?! :)
