Trusting in Friendors

As a small business owner I am so grateful when people trust in me and hire me to help them on their special occasions, and I specially like it when the people hiring me are my friends. (Sure, it is super stressful to be a vendor and a guest, but it also is rewarding.) That is why since we started planning the wedding, I knew we would use some friends and small businesses; plus, we are lucky enough to have some pretty talented friends/acquaintances willing to help us.

So far, these are the friendors/small business we are using:

FLOWERS: Our venue package comes with all the flower centerpieces for the tables, but I am using my friend T’s skills for everything else: two bouquets (one to keep, one to toss) boutonnieres for my Mr. W and our parents, arrangements for the judge and candy tables, random flowers for some bathroom decorations, and some flowers to decorate our car.

MAKEUP: Another friend, M, that I’ve known since elementary school is a great makeup artist. She even teaches another MUA some bridal techniques. We still need to have the trial, but I am confident she will do a great job.

HAIR ACCESSORIES: My dear friend L has graciously offered to make a headpiece for me to wear. We’ll see what she comes up with!

DANCE LESSONS: P, one of my closest friends, is a psychology PhD by day and an amazing dancer/choreographer by”¦day also. She is giving us some much needed dance lessons for the big day.

PHOTOGRAPHY: A coworker of Mr. Weather has started a photography side business. We are planning on using him; he doesn’t have a big portfolio, but we are willing to give him the chance. I know that this one is the biggest risk, but we are confident he will do a good job.

PRINTERS: As I mentioned previously, we had our invitations screen-printed. We used a friend of a friend, and I couldn’t be happier. Their work was fast and flawless. I love how our invitations turned out.

Would you consider using friendors/small businesses? Or is it too big of a risk?

We used quite a few friendors for our wedding. I, like you am very blessed to know so many talented people. Our photographer, DJ, and MUA are all friends of mine. I couldn’t be happier with that decision. Everyone has to start somewhere and if I can help them by helping me I am all for it. I love Friendors!

Unfortunately, none of my close friends are nearby; otherwise, I would have loved to use them as friendors!

So many talented friends! I’ve only got one or two family/friends doing some wedding tasks.

I will be doing DIT flowers. A family friend, who is basically an aunt, is an artist and will be helping me to do all the flowers for my wedding. It makes me so happy to know that she would like to do flowers for my wedding and to know that my reception will literally be filled with the look of love – the love my friend has for me as seen through her flowers.

@Bribaby119: That’s exactly how I feel, everyone has to start somewhere and I’m glad we can all help each other :)

@Mrs. Campfire: Yay! That makes me feel more confident about our decision!

@melizabe: I get what you mean. Using friend makes everything more special!

Friendors are the best! It can be a little nervey to put so much faith in a friend (especially without portfolios), but I found that they worked extra hard to make everything perfect!

I used two friendors and they were definitely two of my top vendors. The first was my photographer but she wasn’t just starting out. She just happens to be one of the best photogs in town and my friend. I felt 100% confident in her professional abilities, and it was a side bonus that she happened to be my friend outside of her job. The other friendor owns a restaurant in town and we went there for our rehearsal dinner, which was fabulous and flawless. I love the restaurant so I knew she’d do a good job. Oh, and I used my aunt as a day-of coordinator and she knocked it out of the park. If they do good work, I think friendors are fine. It’s the ones with little to no professional experience that I worry about.

That’s awesome that you have so many talented friends! We didn’t know many people who could have helped us out for the wedding, but I don’t think we’d have any qualms booking friendors if we had the opportunity to do so.

We are using a family friend as our officiant (a recently ordained minister who’s being awesome at helping us write a secular ceremony) and a friend of a friend doing our flowers. By coincidence, my FI grew up with our reception venue coordinator but we chose the venue without realising this! I really like working with people you already have a connection with. It makes it more personal and I’m also more comfortable asking ridiculous questions :) That said, I have no concerns about our officiant or florist being able to fulfil what we’re asking so that didn’t really factor in our decision.

Wow, you know a ton of talented people! I have a friend helping with the invites, but there are definitely others out there. And I’m not afraid to ask my wedding planner friend for tips, either!

You’re so blessed, we didn’t have any connections in the business, I would have loved to have as many talented friends as you!
