DIYing Wedding Albums with Adoramapix

After finishing up my recaps, I woke up one morning and realized that Christmas was coming up rather soon and I still hadn’t put together our wedding album.  I had always planned to give albums to our parents during our Christmas vacation when we saw them as a thank you for all the help and support they gave us throughout the planning process, but really needed a kick to actually do it.

I know our photographer has amazing wedding albums, but they are a little bit out of our price range right now, especially for the comprehensive book that I really wanted to make.

I chose Adorama after seeing the reviews from other bees. I really liked that the pages laid flat and that the pages had some weight to them. They had a 50% off 8×8 books and a 35% off of any size books coupon that expired that weekend, and so I bit the bullet and put the book together that afternoon.

I found the software really easy to use, and really easy to customize exactly how we wanted each page to look, which was nice! Ultimately, I ended up needing 76 pages to put the whole album together—the biggest size album they offered. Originally I planned on making special albums for each set of parents, but decided to just give them smaller versions of the album we made for ourselves.

I thought the quality was really nice, even in our gigantic 12×12 book. What I hadn’t anticipated was just how shiny all of the pages are. Not really a big deal in my book, but something I really wish I had registered, while looking at other reviews.

Do you see how thick the pages are? They feel really nice, and they make the whole book feel really special.

I especially like how the full page spreads look and how you can barely see the crease down the middle—well unless it creases over someone’s face.

See the closeup of the book? You can kind of pick out the shininess of the paper.

My only regret is not realizing just how HUGE a 12×12 book would be when you open the book flat, and it just feels a tad too big for me. I think we probably would have been equally happy with the 10×10 book.

Overall though, I am thrilled with how the books turned out and I think our parents are enjoying them as much as I enjoyed making them.

Did you DIY your album as well? Where do you plan on storing it?

We also did Adoramapix for our album. It’s great! I think we did the 12×12, too, but I can’t remember for sure. I agree with you about the shininess of the pages, but other than that, I love our album.

We got a 10×10 leather album with our first photography package. For our parents, I used Adoramapix and made 8×8 leather cover versions that mimicked our album. For the Bengali wedding, I did Adoramapix for all three again. I do think the 10×10 size is plenty big, and I’m glad I had the one from our photographer for reference. Otherwise, I would have ended up with the 12×12. And thank goodness for those coupons! 5 leather-bound photo books are not cheap!

That’s very cool and your album looks great! I wish I would have known about this before we dropped a ton of $$ on our album. Our photogs did an incredible job with our album, but I still can’t believe how expensive it was.

That looks like a great option! Your album looks fantastic. We have albums covered in our photography package, but if we’d known about this, we probably would have gone with a less expensive package.

Could you keep us informed if you have any issues with pink lines at the crease? Your book looks great BTW.

Thanks for sharing! I hope to get albums done once our photos are released and it is nice getting a real opinion.

Thanks for the recommendation. The albums our photographers offer are great, but very pricey as well so it’s nice to have some options. I used Shutterfly for our engagement and honeymoon albums, but definitely wanted something of more quality for our wedding album so I’ll be checking out Adorama for sure.

Well I have done it, I have finished designing it and have ordered my wedding album from Adoramapix. there was a 40% discount voucher, it strated off at $244, then knocked the 40% off, THEN converted it into English money…….worked out to £97.50 inc P/P. thats for a leather-lux cover, 10 x 10 inch with 76 pages, I am happy to have ordered it, and its a bonus it came in under £100, I had budgeted for spending £200……I cant wait to get it, and will take pics of it and show you here when it arrives. Have had an email from them and estimated delivery date is 22nd April…..nearly 4 weeks……but people have said they far exceed their delivery times……we shall see wont we?

@anne-north, that’s awesome! I’m glad that it’s coming under what you budgeted! My book was around the delivery time they estimated, but I know they changed warehouses recently so my guess is that they’re trying to still get into the groove. Can’t wait to see it!

When my book arrives I will post pics on here, but as I am in UK it may take a little while I suppose.
We had an horrendous wedding photographer and had to do a re-run, get dressed again……and rely on guest photos, plus the few that she hadnt ruined, so it wasnt easy putting it together and making it look seemless…….hairs had grown, and it was done AFTER we had been on honeymoon so we had a tan! but I am happy with the results, not 100% but then what I have got is better than not having any at all/……here is a link to my album if anyone wants to look

And Libbyfromadoramapix…..I will be happy to be interviewed, but maybe it might be best to wait until I receive my album, that way I can give an honest review?

Anne-North – Oh absolutely of course and your story is very interesting with the re-run. I looked at your photo book and you’re right it does look seemless. You did a fantastic job putting it all together. When it arrives just let me know and we can talk about how you handled the situation and put everything together on your own from various channels.
    Congrats btw

    Thank you Libby……

I actually emailed Adoramapix immediately after paying for my album, because I had forgot to order the box which I really wanted, I want to add it to my order, but I havent had a reply from them yet……I hope they reply soon, because if it dont come with the album I wont order it seperately because of the postage……to UK its $26……a bit too much just for a box.. :)

to add insult to injury, I AM a wedding photographer, so I cannot for the life of me think what she could have done to make all my pictures so blurred. there is one that is of the ceremony, was so blurred I cried when I saw it because it was the REAL moment we said ‘I do’…….so I really wanted to use it, so used it faded out as a background……If I hadnt done that I couldnt have used it at all.

Being a wedding photographer was good in the fact that I can edit, but even I couldnt save a lot of the pictures…..if the detail isnt there , it isnt there.
On my wedding day I DID take my camera and take pictures, as any self respecting photgrapher would do, and I am glad I did, because the bridesmaids pictures in the garden were all taken by me as she went home early! I think she knew she had messed up my wedding and wanted to get out ASAP! I was suspicious as she was shooting because she had it on rapid fire…….and I just knew as a photographer, she wasnt shooting right……it was an awful memory TBH…..

SOOOOOOO, this is why I think having a nice album is important to me, because I AM a wedding photographer, and because of the awful photographs she gave us, I needed to have something nice…….and Adoramapix looks wonderful, and I have read some great reviews……I am so looking forward to receiving it…… and my husband were together for 16 yrs when we got married, and it was August 2012…..its taken me this long to edit and sort out the pictures for a decent album……

Well today is 28th March, 3 days after ordering the album (25th March) , and I just looked at the status and it has changed from ‘pending’ to ‘printed’…… so exciting! well in 12 hours time was when I ordered it, so its really 2.5 days ….. so looking forward to receiving it. it also has a message on it thats its been ‘corrected’…..this is because I ticked the colour correction box …….

Getting into the book designing groove now, and I am half way through our honeymoon book……

its going to be significantly smaller than the wedding album though, it will be…..10 x 8, with 50 pages. Plus the photos dont need editing either. which took a LOT of time in my wedding album… I will be doing a photo finish cover and not the leather that I chose for the wedding album. Plus….if I can get it finished by this weekend…….I will still benefit from 40% off……(expires 31st March)

I am also going to try emailing them and asking them to add this book to my wedding album order, so that I might save a bit on P/P, and receive them together.
Here is a link to the honeymoon book…….if you would like to see….it is only half done at the moment remember….

I have now ordered my honeymoon book…… would be senseless to wait, seeing as there is a 40% off coupon I can use. I chose 8 x 8 inch, 50 pages, and this time I ordered HD glossy pages as I thought my wedding ones really need to be lustre, but my honeymoon needed extra punchiness……
I will do a review on both of them when they arrive.
