Choosing a Menu

We finally chose our menu! Yesterday we went to our coordinator’s office to taste some food. They have an extensive menu, and we were told to pick two of each to try.

In Mexico it is really rare to take into consideration dietary needs or preferences of the guests. We are a bit behind on that front. So there are not vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free options. This can cause some trouble; for example, my dad is allergic to chicken and shrimp, so whenever he goes to a wedding or party he more likely will not eat everything he is served”¦but that’s OK. He is used to that, and it doesn’t bother him at all. What I mean with all this is that it’s not considered rude to have only one meal option. I wanted to mention it since I’ve noticed it’s a big cultural difference.

Anyway, here are the dishes we tried, and in bold letters are the ones that we chose.

BEFORE DINNER ”“ PASSED APPETIZERS

Sorry! No photo! But we chose to have the Mexican canapes:

APPETIZER

Grilled vegetable tower with balsamic reduction, served over fresh cheese

Tomato and goat cheese tower, served with balsamic reduction and avocado sauce

FIRST COURSE

Squash blossom soup served over toasted almonds

Image

Broccoli-tarragon cream served over grilled cheese

Image

MAIN COURSE

Honey lacquered pork loin, served with mashed potatoes and grilled zucchini

Image

Chicken breast filled with wild mushrooms, covered with basil pesto, served with herbed potatoes and green beans (Actually my dad will be having beef, but come on! He is the father of the bride.)

Image

DESSERT

This is the only course that we were able to pick both of our options. They will be served alternately.

Meringue served over vanilla ice cream

Image

Puff pastry boat filled with pears served over chocolate sauce

That’s it! I think the presentation is a little old school, but honestly I don’t care! The food was good!!! And we were really worried about that since we hadn’t tried anything from them or had any references whatsoever. Everything was delicious! We are so happy and so relieved!

How did your menu tasting go?

Your food looks amazing, especially the appetizer. We won’t have our menu tasting until 5 weeks before the wedding, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the food we haven’t tried before is good! :)

Sadly my venue doesn’t offer a tasting but we did get to try SOME of their food at their annual bridal show. It was good to try something and it was all amazing. Put my mind at ease picking our food. Your food looks so tasty! I think I may need to grab lunch!

We really need to get a raffle going for a chance to win an invite to the Weather Vane wedding.

This all looks so delicious! Thanks for giving us a peek at real Mexican food – I know in the U.S. it’s not the real deal!

Wow! Everything looks delicious! Mind shipping me a couple of flautas and quesadillas? Please and thank you :P

Yay for martinis and mojitos! We served both at our wedding and they were a huge hit, but our coordinator suggested only offering the mojito after cocktail hour because it takes so long to make, what with the muddling and all. All in all, you have a great menu!

@Miss Milk Cow: I’m sure your food will be great, keep us posted!

@Miss Barn: Well, at least you got to taste a bit, it would be nerve wracking not knowing at all!

@Mrs. Campfire: @Miss Goose: @Miss Clover: @Miss Pyramid: @Mrs. Treasure: @Mrs. Waterfall: Book your flights right now! Taquitos and quesadillas will be waiting for you! Also, @Miss Pyramid, I should totally write a NWR post about some mexican tacos, they are absolutely different to what you have in the USA, which I also like, but they are so diferentes!

I’m not waiting for an invitation; I’m totally crashing the Weather Vane wedding. Who’s with me?

That menu looks spectacular. OMG. I am STARVING and I just ate dinner. I would absolutely destroy that tomato/goat cheese tower :) Please enlighten me more about legit Mexican food, because I’m pretty sure it doesn’t exist here in Boston!
