Tractor Invites: The Details

Once our invitations were designed, there were a few more pieces we needed. Initially, I was pushing for a very simple and minimalist design—just invitation cards and response cards—but I was eventually convinced that adding a details card would be helpful for our guests.

When you search our wedding venue on various maps apps and GPS devices, the address displayed is often the address for the historical society main office, not the actual venue. In order to eliminate confusion, we used our detail cards to list the full address, as well as a map, so that guests could be aware of the cross streets and know if their GPS was leading them astray. We also made a point to mention this specifically on our website so that our guests don’t get pointed in the wrong direction!

I designed the map in PowerPoint, using a tutorial from one of Weddingbee’s finest—Mrs. Ballet Flat! It took awhile for me to get a hang of the curves tool, but eventually I mastered it. Once I had all of the important streets in place, I brought the image into Photoshop and added the little details including street names, route numbers, the location of the hotel and barn, and even a teeny tiny weather vane and barn cat—a miniature nod to our cat, Scout! I created the little icons using the custom shapes tool in Photoshop.

We also used our full and formal names on our details card, since we had omitted them from the primary design. We listed our wedding website address at the bottom—we spent a lot of time putting it together, and we want our guests to use it!

Our response cards came last—they’re pretty self-explanatory. Instead of the standard, mysterious letter “M” that often appears on the first line (the meaning of which sometimes seems to allude some people who are less familiar with weddings), we just decided to put the word “Name(s).” Simple and to the point. Guests were then asked to initial their choice of entree—about half of these have come back correctly. 😉 Our guests also had the option to RSVP online on our website, which many have taken advantage of.

Next up, our invitations come off of a computer screen and into real life!

That map is perfect! I would find that so handy as a guest!
