A while back, early in our planning, I read this post by the Unbride’s husband and his demands for the wedding. He titled the post “Ungroom or Groomzilla? You Decide.” So, I read through it, expecting to hear some crazy demands, but in reality, all of his requests not out of the ordinary.
The post got me thinking about my own wedding and involving the groom. I’m definitely no bridezilla and I want Mr. Argyle to be 100% involved as much as he wants to be. Of course, he doesn’t care about some of the finer details, but I made it very clear to him that I want his honest opinion about things, which he does.
As for any demands – well, he doesn’t have any. He is completely okay with me making most of the decisions (but I want his feedback, of course). His response was that he has full faith in the ideas I come up with (aww, how sweet!). But, I still make it a point to ask him about the bigger details and his opinions. He definitely dishes the feedback. If it isn’t positive, we find a solution to make it work or find a new idea. Read more…

Let’s be honest. We have all spent hours scouring the web and bridal stores for the perfect bridesmaid’s dresses.
I thought I knew what I wanted, until I purchased my dress. The bridesmaid’s dresses I had in mind were WAY too formal for my dress, made of heavy satin or were tea length. So, it was back to square one.
I found a few contenders in my second wave of searching, with this one topping the list:

We finally took our engagement photos back in late October. After 9 months of engagement, I was getting antsy, and scheduled them about a year before the wedding.
The weather had been crappy, rainy and cloudy the week we scheduled to take the photos. The Midwestern fall foliage was still in full display, which I was happy about, but I was worried we’d have to reschedule. Miraculously, on the day-of, the rain stopped and the clouds began to clear about mid-way through our session. It was nice that we were able to get a bit of sun flare in our pictures – one of the many aspects of our photographer’s style that I loved.
After we had our pictures done, I had stalked Lisa’s blog regularly (I do this anyway) waiting for our pictures to appear in a post. I knew she had been super busy with weddings in the weeks prior to our engagement photos, so I was expecting to wait. Finally, after about 5 weeks, a lovely surprised popped into my inbox in the form of “Miss A, your pictures are done and you should check out the blog for a sneak peek.” SCORE!
We ended up taking our photos at a local park and in a historic part of town – we were looking for something different than what everyone else was doing (i.e. not Forest Park). Plus, I seriously loved that Lisa was up for our fun props! We could not be happier with the result, and I am beyond thrilled to share them with you!

The second I saw this photo, I thought of one person and one person only: Argyle Groomsman A (AGA for short). Now, he’s not getting married, but the guy is from Texas.
I can remember one of the first stories he told me when he started his new job in New York (you read that right, he left Texas and moved to New York to work for an airline). Read more…

Mr. Argyle and I really hope that both our best man and maid of honor give a toast at our reception. Oddly enough, it was them who introduced me to Mr. Argyle three years ago. I have a feeling we’ll hear about how we owe them (and we do). But I also have a feeling there will be laughter and tears.
So, in true bride spirit, I started searching for toast ideas myself. I know MOH Argyle would probably ask what she would want me to say (I love that girl). And, during my search I found this cute one from Weddingbee PRO. Although it is a poem, I think it’s adorable to use, especially since we can relate – Mr. Argyle and I have two dogs. It seems a little long for a toast, but you could use excerpts instead of the entire thing.
Falling in Love is Like Owning a Dog, by Taylor Mali
First of all, it’s a big responsibility,
especially in a city like New York [note - this could be changed to fit the city you live in]
So think long and hard before deciding on love.
On the other hand, love gives you a sense of security:
when you’re walking down the street late at night
and you have a leash on love
ain’t no one going to mess with you.
Because crooks and muggers think love is unpredictable.
Who knows what love could do in its own defense? Read more…

Let me first start off by saying that Mr. A and I had no intention of hiring a videographer, that is, until October of 2009 rolled around.
Back in early fall, I fell in love with this video, which I found via Style Me Pretty. (I’ll wait, as I encourage you to watch the entire thing. It’s totes worth it.)
I fell in love with this video. Hard. So much so, in fact, that I shared it with everyone. I went on a mission to find a Super 8 videographer close to town (with no luck).
So, when I took a visit out to Colorado to visit to see one of my best friends (and bridesmaid) back in mid-October, I showed her the video.

What sucks was that I spent countless hours designing our Save the Dates. Countless, people. I’m a perfectionist, and so it took me about 15+ tries to design something that I was pretty happy with.

Yeah, I know. I was pretty sure I had settled on this hairstyle. But after realizing how heavy it looked (and finding out they added a lot of extensions in her hair), I know that gorgeous hair style would be a hot mess after a few hours.
So, I’ve been thinking I will probably opt for something like this, instead. And, luckily, my hair trial this month, so I can finally make a decision, rather than just sit around dreaming of options.

While we are not including children in our wedding (this includes not having a flower girl or ring bearer), I love the idea of making sure the kids have something to do. Weddings are not exactly the most kid-friendly places, but if kids are a huge part of your life and family, I definitely think they should feel included.
One of the newer trends in weddings is having a kids’ section or kids’ table with activities for the kids to work on. I love this idea. There are plenty of examples all over the web, but this one featured by Heather at We Met in a Bar is a great example of how to keep the kiddos occupied.

When I first got engaged, Mr. Argyle and I both decided that we wanted to ask a friend or family member to officiate our ceremony. From the start, I had my heart set on the Jewel Box in Forest Park for our ceremony (which is where our ceremony will take place), so it was a matter of finding someone to officiate. We had toyed around with the idea of hiring someone, but after some thought, we just weren’t in to it.
So, we forgot about it for a while, until it came up in discussion a few months ago. I suggested that we ask my mom’s sister, my Aunt Kat, to officiate our wedding. It would involve her getting ordained. And, before asking her, I searched around the internet about getting ordained online, just to see how easy it would be (and in the process, got ordained myself).
The question then, became when we would ask her. I wasn’t game for asking her online or the phone (she lives in Albuquerque, NM), and was hoping she would be in town soon. Read more…

Since I’m pretty Type A, I love to be prepared for everything, with a timeline and all the details mapped out. I can’t help it – I just really hate to be unprepared.
And, with bridal parties, most of your bridesmaids will care about the details as much as you, so they appreciate your schedule and timeline. Your groomsmen, however, will not. You’ll hand them a lovely little schedule of the activities and where they need to be and when, and they think, ‘Great.’ And, the second you turn around, in the trash goes that lovely little schedule you worked so diligently on.
Heartbreaking right? Well, I found this great idea: a pocket schedule. You can give it to the guys to keep in their pockets. Heck, you can even give it to your bridesmaids and close family members who need to know what is going on during your wedding day. The guys can put them in their pants pockets or suit coats, and the ladies can drop them in their clutches. Read more…

While I don’t 100% agree with that statement (although maybe I 99% agree; I have an extreme love for the mountains of Colorado), I must agree that these are great totes.

I originally thought that I wanted my girls to wear colored shoes, but I was quickly reminded that I will be sporting this lovely pair. But this photo makes me rethink that for a mere second.
