Not long after my first two dress shopping experiences, I decided to go try on gowns again. I made an appointment at a different shop than the two previous places I had visited. I mostly made this appointment to hit the shops by myself. I actually prefer to shop alone; I get more done and I can weed through the stuff that is not appealing to me. It also gave me a chance to try on some different designers, which I wanted to do. At that time, the wedding was well over a year away, so I knew I had plenty of time to choose a dress.
So, I got to Town & Country Bridal Boutique (which I highly recommend if you’re in the area), and was greeted by a super-friendly staff member. My consultant, whom I love, was so helpful and sweet. So much so in fact, that I made an appointment for her the following Friday so my two best friends could join me on my dress shopping extravaganza. The consultant sat me down to talk about budget, look and feel, and the style I like. She took some notes, got some personal information and we both browsed the gowns together. Because I was the first appointment of the day, we managed to grab about 10 or so gowns for me to try on. After the first four, I had given them all a “Yes” (not kidding) and she wrote them down in my file. I did manage to finally say no to a few.
Many of my favorites were by designer Martina Liana (fantastic designer, BTW), which I’ve shared below. The great thing about her dresses is they are super customizable. Most of her dresses come in either a corset back or zipper, and many different fabrics. She even sells an awesome dress where the skirt removes to reveal a short reception dress.
Imagine this first one without the strap – it’s removable:

I started the dress search early. Like, over 18 months early. I wanted to make sure I really had a chance to look over and try on as much as I could, so I immediately made appointments at two shops in the area with Mom Argyle.
At my first appointment, I fell in love with a ruffled halter from Demetrios, which I was surprised to find in their inventory. It is quite a different dress than every other dress in their collections.
The second was a fitted, v-neck with a low back Marisa gown that I found at the Ultimiate Bride. It was simple and had great lines, with a great back, which I loved.

Our reception venue was the second thing we tackled on our list of wedding to-dos.
Right after the engagement, we had both talked about having the reception at the Missouri History Museum. It just seemed like the right choice. It has beautiful architecture and it appealed to Mr. Argyle because it is the History Museum, and because there is a replica of the Spirit of St. Louis airplane in the atrium. It was perfect… except that it was not large enough to hold all of our guests. This was heartbreak #1 of our wedding planning.
Early in my planning, I spent a lot of time racking my brain for ideas for our centerpieces. We had not yet met with any florists, but I already gotten the idea that flowers were going to be expensive for what we would have wanted. I couldn’t decide if I wanted something dramatic or simple. I surely knew I do not want anything over-done or too tall.
While searching around on the web, I found some great options. The first one is from Project Wedding. I really like the simplicity of it. By just immersing a few calla lilies into talk cylindrical vases of varying heights, it gives off a simple and modern feel that we both really liked.

“Add a memorable touch to your wedding with unique favors that match your theme.”
A while back, Mom Argyle and I went wedding dress shopping for the first time. Now, I have had in my head the exact dress (okay, I have a few in my head) that I want. However, I though it would be a good idea to just go try some on and see what shapes look good (even though I know this, too).
So, I made an appointment with one of the bigger bridal shops in the area, one I knew would have many appointment slots open on a Saturday. I was excited, and took the time to go online and look at what dresses they had available so I had an idea in mind of what dresses I would want to try on. I had a pleasant bridal consultant who was very sweet, but she definitely did not understand what I was looking for. It sort of made my frustrated.
I had told her that I did not want anything poofy (I am too petite for a poofy dress). I did not want lace or beading at all. I was really looking for something fresh, chic and modern, yet classic (got that?). Basically, something simple. When we were going through all of the dresses, she kept pointing out dresses that had beading and lace. And, not just some beading and lace, A LOT of it! It was almost as if she did not hear me say, “No lace or beading.” I’m not exactly the definition of a traditional bride. There are some things I want to do differently with my dress, but not out of rebellion.
After trying on the third or fourth dress, she asked me if I wanted to put on a veil. It was then that I told her I was not going to wear a veil.

That honestly was my reaction the second I opened Mrs. Penguin’s email. I take that back. That was the second reaction I had. After opening the email, I had to read through it three or four times because I could not believe my eyes. I wanted to tell the whole world (and my office), but I knew that wasn’t going to happen. I work in an office of 15, where 11 are guys, so shrieking in the office was out of the question. Instead, I spent about 20 minutes shaking at my desk, my heart thumping at how excited I was!
I could not be more thrilled and honored to be the newest Bee! I have been reading the ‘bee for over a year and was introduced to the site by an old friend of mine. I never thought that one day I would actually “bee” a bee!
Now for the juicy details.

I’m a true St. Louisan at heart –
