Greetings, Wedding Bees!
I’m a 36-year old bride-to-be in Portland, OR, in the midst of many a gown shopping adventure. I have some photos to offer, all of which feature gowns that are probably not quite right… I beseech your advice.
My Aunt recently mailed me two family wedding gowns to try on. I was tremendously excited by the prospect of wearing a family dress. One is hers, which I believe is from the early 90’s, and the other is my Grandmother’s, which was custom-made of silk satin on Newbury Street in Boston in 1941. Most of my friends have taken one look at these and know that, while it would be great to wear a family dress, they are both too dated. (The problem with my Grandmother’s is that, because the 80’s so heavily borrowed from the 40’s…it looks totally 80’s!).
Check them out… Please ignore the need for alteration for a moment and focus on the styles. Do either of these work for you?

Hi WeddingBee!
I love your blog and trust the good taste of your readers. So I would love to post a ballot box entry so that readers can help me decide between two wedding gowns! I like them both equally and want to base my final decision on which looks best on me. I purchased them at sample sales for $250 each, though the Michelle Roth gown retails for much more than the Alfred Angelo. My wedding is in a huge ornate cathedral in Chicago in September so I need something spectacular.

Sweeney2Be needs our help with her DIY invitations! On the left is a hand-embossed rendition, but because that was so time consuming, she also made a photoshop version as seen on the right.

In today’s ballot box, Kimberly’s wedding is coming up fast, and she needs help deciding between a Claire Pettibone dress and a Cymbeline dress. She’s getting married in an old private house in the mountains, is 5′ 7″ and slim with a few curves. Please help her make a decision between these two dresses!
I am hemming and hawing between three dresses–two very expensive Augusta Jones dresses and one Mon Cheri dress. My wedding is 4 months away (yes…4! January 2008!), but I’ve been told that a rush order would be possible. I want a fabulous dress because neither my FH nor I ever get out and this is my ONE CHANCE to wear something really special. On the other hand, I wouldn’t want to be ridiculous or tacky (and honestly, I do not have good judgement–some people just know what is appropriate…I am not one of those people).
Scroll down to see the dresses, then please return to vote.
In today’s ballot box, Yvonne needs some help deciding on her bridesmaids dresses! If you need help making a decision and would like to submit it for a ballot box, please email it to us at info@weddingbee.com.

I saw this dress on the left randomly as I was surfing the net (if you know who the maker is please let me know, so I can give credit). The dress style is called Tulip and it sells for $295. But look what I already bought from Nordstrom - it’s so similar but I only paid $62!!!
I like the mini sweetheart neckline on mine too.
On Model: Tulip; On me: Nordstrom dress
My MOH and I took some pictures together to see how it looks with my gown. The bm dress’ neckline also complements/matches my wedding gown!
We tried it with a blue sash and a black one just to see (Those are not our actual choices but they were the only 2 ribbons we had lying around at the time). Please ignore the heavy wrinkles on the bottom of the bm dress. We were too lazy to iron it out. ![]()

When I thought I was done with the bm dress, look what I found– a gorgeous BCBG dress. This floor length dress is in a flowy chiffon with a silk bow that makes it a bit more formal than the Nordie’s one. Excuse the excess length (I actually tiptoed as tall as I could
), the dress will fall better after hemming.

So now it comes down between these 2 choices and I left it up to the BMs themselves to choose which ever one they like better/feel more comfortable in since I’m fine with both.
We received an email from reader Connie yesterday, asking us to help her decide between three wedding dresses. We realized that there must be many brides out there who need a little help with certain wedding decisions. So we’re launching a new feature called “Ballot Box” where readers help brides decide on wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, favors, invitations, and more!
Let’s kick off our first Ballot Box post and help Connie out with her dress dilemma! These 3 dresses all fit so well, she’s had a difficult time choosing just one.

Hi there!
What do weddingbee bloggers and readers think of strapless gowns vs. ones with straps/sleeves? Can you help me decide on a gown (I have been terribly indecisive lately). Any opinions would be so greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!
