Sattui WineryAbout Me: I'm an East Coast girl, living on a tiny little island in the Pacific, twirling, leaping, and shimmy-ing my way through life, and now, wedding planning! I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". My favorite books are The Portrait of a Lady, by Henry James, and Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can also conjure a pretty good Patronus Charm. I started my appreciation for good red wine while traveling on the high seas, and it's only fitting that my passion for wine drinking led me to my Napa-bred honey. We bonded over bottles of Cabernet on my oceanfront porch and haven't looked back since. We're sealing the deal at a winery in the Napa Valley on a 'perfect ten' of a day!
Can you believe it’s already been a year?! I surely can’t. Our Napa wedding seems like it was six months ago at most. The whole day is still so vivid in my mind, it feels impossible that 365 days have passed.
We stuck to the traditional “paper” theme for our first anniversary and I promised I’d share the crest I made for the husband. I’m sad to say that the colors aren’t quite right, but we live on Guam…I have to take what I can get. He was very surprised and pleasantly impressed by my leopard drawing skills. I was too, to be honest! Read more…

I’ve been struggling with what to get my husband for our first anniversary. The inspiration is paper and although I’ve seen ideas from tickets, to star dedications, those just weren’t lighting my fire. I had an a-ha moment when I woke up yesterday and I’m excited to put it together!
I’m going to attempt to construct the family crest for our (my new) last name. It seems fairly straightforward and I really like the meanings of the symbols used. I may include them on the back, along with a hand-written message for my honey.
Coat of Arms: Blue shield with a fesse between three leopard’s faces.
blue: valiant and hardy warrior who enterprises hazardous things by force and courage
fesse: military belt or girdle of honour; represents readiness to serve the public

Hi Hive! You don’t mind if I do drive-bys every now and again, right? Promise I’ll drop by when I think I’ve got something good for ya. Today I’m thinking about wedding photography… six months after the wedding.
Photography quickly rose to the top of my list of important things when we began planning. I knew I wanted something special, but I didn’t know exactly what. Unless you are used to working with photographers on a pretty regular basis, most of us just know what we like when we see it. When I stumbled upon Luke’s work, I just knew he was the one. It was sort of like falling in love at first sight.
Then you find the price for your dream. And it’s usually higher than you hoped for.
To fit the constraints of budget, the only way to make my make my 2-shooter, 8-hour fantasy happen was to cut out the album option. My high-quality images would land in my lap on 2 discs, about 8GB worth of our gorgeous day. Luke also included web-ready images, which were much smaller and included his watermark. This made recapping our wedding pretty easy breezy, but now it’s all up to me to figure out how to present my photos outside of the internet.
Uploading the high-res images to photobook sites became frustrating when I learned that most hosts don’t allow images over 10 MB—almost all of my images are over 20 MB. Read more…

With my recaps written, it’s time to step aside. *sniff, sniff*
I’d almost plan another wedding just to keep blogging for Weddingbee, but then again, I’m happily wedding-ed out. I’m pretty sure Miss Sparkler is planning my dream city-wedding, so I’ll live vicariously through her and all the newbees with their gorgeous and unique weddings.

After we rode off into the night (around the parking lot two times), the party was officially over. Darn. There was a surge of last-minute goodbyes and a rush to gather all of the wedding stuff. Luckily, I wasn’t in charge of anything and was able to enjoy saying goodnight to our guests. My ceremony dress and purple heels magically made it into our car, as did 2 cases of our favorite V. Sattui wines. Gifts, cards, boxes, and flowers were loaded up into a few different cars to be sorted later when we all recovered.

10/10/10 was winding down and it was time to send us off into the world as husband and wife. The remaining guests gathered in the courtyard to wish us well, high-fiving us through their tunnel of love. Read more…

I’ve been looking forward to sharing this one with you! I’m always the one to make the faces, but Mr. Barrettes definitely got into the spirit with the garter toss…
Someone pulled out a chair, a circle began to form around it, and I was summoned to have a seat. (I also should have been reminded to change back into my purple pumps, but you know how things go.) My groom was quick to join me in the middle of the circle and I could tell by his face he was getting a little saucy. I whispered to him to try not to show the whole room my sous-vêtements. I went looking for my groom when the DOC told me it was time for the tosses. I didn’t see him on the dance floor or in the courtyard so I made my way to the fountain, and lo and behold, the jokers were all gathered around the bike.
Naturally, I thought it would be a hot moment if I climbed up there with him. Those clever photographers always know where to be! Read more…

Hi Hive! I’m taking a brief intermission from recap-land to show you my new hair. Five months post-wedding and one week to my 30th birthday, I decided to go big. The shortest I’ve ever worn my hair is in a chin-length bob, and I really wanted to buzz it short, but I have big ears and know I would have regretted that as soon as I did it. (Oh, the foresight that comes with being 30!)
I love it the most when I take the time to flat-iron it, but it’s pretty fun to play with, and fresh out of bed in the morning I have a bit of Charlie Sheen going on. Winning! Read more…

I’m so happy I convinced Mr. Barrettes to tackle the photo booth project at the last minute! It added a fun extra element to the reception, despite its flaws. I mentioned here how it was made and what we would have done differently.
I’m sure my groom didn’t plan on cutting the board (with what looks to be a cake-cutter) just before it was hung—but ah, it adds character…at least that’s what I keep telling myself. Read more…

My mouth is watering as I sit to write this post! Our cake was delish! The bottom layer was red velvet, the middle, fruit basket, and the top tier was German chocolate.
I almost didn’t want to cut into it, it was so pretty! It was a surprise to both of us, as Mr. Barrettes’ mom took the cake’s care into her own from the beginning of our planning. I sent her some inspirational photos and she took care of the rest. Read more…

After my weepy dance with my dad, the Mother/Son dance rocked the room into a dance party! They never told me what they were planning so I was just as surprised as everyone else. Their dance started off with a few bars of Celine Dion, but then they whipped out sunglasses and grooved it out as the DJ flipped on “Cooler Than Me” by Mike Posner.

OK, I know I said there would be no more tears, but I forgot about this one! I pretty much cried through my entire dance with my dad. Once you hear the song you may understand why. I tried my best to suck it up and brush them away, but eventually the chorus would roll around again and bring fresh tears to my eyes.

After the best man cheers’ed to a long marriage and lots of babies, the groom took the mic and delivered his speech. He had been preparing for awhile and he personally thanked almost everyone in the room. I don’t know why I was so nervous for him to speak, but I felt like I was holding my breath the whole time. I was finally able to exhale when he raised his glass and toasted our guests.
Then suddenly everyone was looking at me! What? I hadn’t prepared to speak! I didn’t think brides did that! But there was an odd silence and a weird anticipation in the room so I stood as my mom gave me that look, as if to say, “your turn.” Well, I thought, I’m good at winging it!
