Last Minute Project: Finding My Scent

April 6th, 2010 @ 9:20 am by Mrs. Beagle

Three days before the wedding I realized I still did not have a perfume to wear on our wedding day. I think it was one of those items on my checklist that I kept putting off because I thought it wouldn’t take long (yeah, right). So, three days before the wedding, I trekked over to my nearest Ulta in hopes of finding the perfect scent. Something that would knock Mr. Beagle’s socks off, in a good way. :)

I usually wear this perfume (which is unfortunately no longer in production) on a daily basis:

“Metro”, Max Azria

I was looking for something similar (light, airy), but different (memorable). Also, the packaging had to be cute just in case there were any pictures taken of the perfume bottle (um, yes, I hate to admit this was my thought process in the days before the wedding).

Beagles on the Beach: Part III

April 5th, 2010 @ 12:05 pm by Mrs. Beagle

**I’ll warn you ahead of time: this post includes a TON of pictures.

After we spent an entire day playing tourist in Cabo San Lucas, Mr. Beagle and I were more than ready to relax on a boat and indulge in some good food and drinks. Finally, after waiting by the dock, it was time to board the huge catamaran that would take us to see the famous arches.

By the time we left the harbor, the sun was on its way down, and there was a very nice breeze to cool us off. I still can’t get over how beautiful the water was.

Favor Food

March 11th, 2010 @ 4:48 pm by Mrs. Beagle

For our wedding, it was super easy to decide on what we wanted to give away as favors. I, for one, am a huge fan of all things sweet and knew it would be the perfect food item to send home with our guests. (And you can read more about our choice here.)

So when I came across this site today, via this blog, I knew I had to share it with y’all because I think it would make the perfect addition to any wedding (or shower, or party, or really any occasion at my house). The idea? Individual pies in canning jars! I love, love, love this idea and if I wasn’t already married, I might throw my original idea out the window, just so I could incorporate these instead!!!

Favor Food : wedding austin favors food Cherry cherry+

They are completely customizable with flavors, so you can make a variety if you so choose. Plus, who doesn’t love canning jars?

Still need more reasons? They’re super easy to make. Don’t believe me?

About Mrs. Beagle

When I saw this post on A Practical Wedding today, I felt like someone knocked the air out of me. Not only could I completely relate, but I wished someone would have discussed such a question on this topic while I was planning. I’m always at odds on how much is too much to be shared on the internet, but I would like to share my experience if it will help someone out there.

My mom passed away four months before my wedding, and it was the saddest, most painful experience I’ve gone through yet. What made it worse, was that I was in the middle of planning what was supposed to be “the happiest day of my life”. I went through a mixture of emotions: sadness (the most obvious), anger that my family was having to go through this after we had been through so much with her illness, guilt for not moving my wedding date up so she could be there, when she wanted to be there so badly, numbness when I couldn’t feel any worse. After all that, I really thought there was no way a wedding would suddenly clear everything away with one sweep and transform one day into a joyous occasion.

In the weeks leading up to our wedding my emotional well-being continued to decline.

Beagles at the Beach: Part II

January 5th, 2010 @ 6:05 pm by Mrs. Beagle

After we spent a full day relaxing by our pool and along the beach by our hotel, we were ready for a little more adventure in the next day of our trip. We browsed through a few of the activities the hotel suggested and settled on a “Sunset Cruise” that departed from the marina in Cabo San Lucas later that evening. To ensure that we were able to find the departure point (and be there on time), we decided to go into the city early in the day to play “tourists”.

Cabo San Lucas is about 30 minutes travel time from San Jose del Cabo (which is where we were staying). Originally we were going to take a bus there (because it was a lot cheaper than taking a taxi and we did not rent a car), but while we were waiting at the bus stop, a local who had just dropped off his friends at the airport and was on his way back into the city offered us a ride. Normally this is not something I would recommend, but we happened to come across the right person at the right time. Our “driver” actually lived and worked in Texas for a while and we had a pleasant conversation with him to make the drive shorter. After paying him what we would have been charged for the bus trip and tipping him (on a side note-in Mexico, tipping is expected for most services), we were dropped off by the huge mall that sits on the edge of Cabo’s marina.

Beagles at the Beach: Part I

December 29th, 2009 @ 5:27 pm by Mrs. Beagle

Since I’m still sorting through and organizing our wedding pics (!!!), I decided to start recapping our honeymoon in the meantime.

We had originally considered postponing our honeymoon to sometime in 2010, but I am so glad we decided to go soon after the wedding (we left the following week). We were in dire need of some rest and relaxation and it was nice to take a break from “real life”, even if it was just for a week.

If you remember (or if you don’t), Mr. Beagle’s parents graciously gifted us the use of their timeshare in San Jose del Cabo (about 30 minutes away from Cabo San Lucas). We left Austin on the Saturday after our wedding (Halloween). Arriving at the airport in San Jose del Cabo was very overwhelming for me. As soon as we left the customs area, we were I was immediately bombarded by timeshare salesmen trying to coax us into stopping to talk to them. I assume this because they target Americans/non Spanish speakers/women… so after several confusing moments where I thought they were persons we needed to meet, I latched on to Mr. Beagle’s arm and we walked quickly to the airport exit. We were aware that salesmen were aggressive in the airport, but I had no idea they would be so pushy and persuasive! Fortunately this was the only location where we encountered this behavior and once we exited the airport, it was relatively easy to find our prearranged transportation to our hotel.

Last Minute Project: Cake Topper

December 21st, 2009 @ 5:04 pm by Mrs. Beagle

I guess I should back up a second here. Before I start talking about our cake topper, I should really discuss our cake first. I wanted something simple, tiered, no fondant…. that was pretty much the extent of my criteria. I have seen our baker’s handy work at the wedding of a good friend that I attended:

A Moment of Weakness

November 19th, 2009 @ 4:05 pm by Mrs. Beagle

After I got married, I assumed I would give up my obsession with wedding blogs. Even in the weeks leading up to our wedding I refused to look at wedding inspiration sites because 1) I had no time or, more importantly, 2) I was fearful I would end up seeing some detail or project that I would fall in love with and need to incorporate into our event or, even worse, 3) that I would see a gorgeous wedding and then regret the entire theme of our wedding and proceed to sulk.

Last week, after seeing our wedding pictures for the first time, I let down my guard and revisited the wedding sites whose posts had piled up in my Google Reader. I immediately regretted it. The wonderful memories for our wedding day were clouded by so many things I wish I had done. I wish we had taken more pictures with our wedding party, I wish I had remembered to bring our invitations to be photographed, I wish we had hired a videographer, I wish I had made enough time to make signs for our chairs, I may have even regretted not carrying real flowers, and the list could go on and on.

Day-After Traditions

Day-After Traditions : wedding cultural traditions Lindo6 source

In Mr. Beagle’s family, they have a tradition of gathering as a family and eating Menudo, which is a spicy soup usually served for breakfast, on the morning after the wedding. Although I’ve tried this soup, I’m not a big fan of it (it’s one of those things that you either love or hate), but Mr. Beagle loves it.

Mascara Alternative: Dyed Lashes

October 28th, 2009 @ 1:35 pm by Mrs. Beagle

Yay, I’m married! (Okay, now that I’ve got that out of my system…) :)

On Saturday, after my hair was set and my makeup was being prepped, I voiced my concern about mascara to my stylist. The problem is that I already have long, thick lashes and, therefore, I don’t wear mascara often. Because of this, It feels weird when I have it on and I think it makes my eyes look odd. That’s when my stylist told me she should have suggested making an appointment to have my lashes dyed. Although it wouldn’t make them longer or thicker, she said it would make them darker.

I, being naive about makeup and most beauty products in general, had never heard of this and now I am intrigued. I did some brief research on the topic via a Google search and found out you can also buy dye if you want to do it at home. I am not that brave and would definitely have someone do it for me, at least the first time. The only problem I see with this is that it’s dye, which means I can’t just take it off (like I can with mascara) if I don’t like it. Also, I am a little concerned about having chemicals that close to my eyeballs.

One Last Post

October 24th, 2009 @ 11:45 am by Mrs. Beagle

… until I’m a Mrs.!

To Mr. Beagle, today I will be marrying my best friend. Through all our ups and downs I know now, more than ever, that this is the best choice for me and I can’t hardly wait. I had a wonderful time with you at our rehearsal last night, but I know that the real deal will be even better. Thanks for putting up with all my faults and supporting me through thick and thin. You have made me a better person and, to put it simply, I love you.

To my mom, I know how much you wanted to be there with me tomorrow, and I am so, so, so sorry that it just is not physically possible. Just know that you will be with me in my heart and in my thoughts. So much of who I am is because of you and I hope that you knew that before you said goodbye. I will miss you more tomorrow than I have these long months, but I know you’ll be watching from above and I’ll feel your presence.

The Burdens of Technology

October 21st, 2009 @ 2:55 pm by Mrs. Beagle

I know we are all too familiar with the cheesy “silence your phone” commercials during movie previews. Practically everyone owns a cell phone today, and while most people are used to silencing it during meetings, church, etc., I think it is important to remind people that a wedding is also the occasion to “unplug”.
