Since Mother’s Day is coming up, I want to dedicate a post for my mom. She’s wonderful - ever since I was small I’ve seen her DIY all sorts of stuff. She really wanted to get involved in the wedding planning, but it was tough when she lived so far away. Because we both have busy work schedules, we weren’t able to share the experiences of dress shopping or fittings. Instead, we have been e-mailing and calling each other back and forth since last June, and I have to say I feel kind of sad that she hasn’t been around as much.
My dress arrived around early January and I stopped by the Wedding Shoppe to see how it looked. I wanted to check it out with several veil styles. I really loved the cathedral length veil, it’s so dramatic and beautiful especially if you’re tall. We tried the cathedral veil and it just looked…so-so. I wanted to see how the dress looked with a veil that had a subtle lace trim, here’s a photo:

I think I love my wedding jewelry more than my wedding dress. I’m obsessed with things that *sparkle* and I like to add a little *bling bling* to whatever I own. Since I started wedding planning, I collected a great deal of jewelry from wholesale shops in NYC popular couture bridal accessories shops online, and bridal consignment boutiques in the Philadelphia area.
My first two brooches were purchased from a mall kiosk vendor at King of Prussia. The owner is Korean and she sells a a lot of rhinestone hair jewelry/combs and brooches for reasonable prices. I bought two of her brooches hoping I could use them for my wedding dress, applying one to my sash and the other to the side of my dress. We took a look at the brooches, and sadly, they didn’t work so well with my dress. I was really frustrated because I thought the brooches were really stunning but I didn’t know what to do with them..

I had my first and perhaps final hair/makeup trial this weekend with Philadelphia stylist Cali from Calista Brides. I guess it’s kind of late to have a hair trial, but I was waiting for my hair comb and earrings to come in so I could see how everything looked together. I was a little nervous to schedule the trial so late. I mean, I noticed several girls doing like 3-4 hair trials!? What was I thinking? Well, luckily the trial went quite well and here are the two updos she created:

I love photography in general. Before planning my wedding I was really interested in photography, taking several photography classes during high school and learning how to take portraits and scenic shots. I really enjoy taking photos of flowers and nature, especially close-ups with a macro lens to capture all the fine details and beauty I see within a beautiful flower’s structure. I also learned there’s so much you can do with photography - I love how one subject can look so different from so many angles and viewpoints.

My fiance and I both really liked the movie Amelie, and I wanted to find a way to incorporate a cute idea from this movie. In one of the scenes from the movie, Amelie seizes her father’s gnome and hands it over to her flight attendant friend. Her friend travels around the world with this gnome and takes postcard photos of it posing in Moscow, England, all over the world. I thought the idea was amusing and I wanted to include this gnome in our traveling adventures.

I was pretty set on my pair of wedding shoes… until a few days ago.
My first pair of wedding shoes are gorgeous and really comfortable. I absolutely love these shoes and even spent of lot of time crafting them - I decorated the shoes with clear rhinestones, applying them individually with a hotfix gun. The end result was a success, the shoes look really pretty and sparkly:

I’m already 10 months in the wedding planning process and I have only about a month left until our wedding. It’s scary because I feel like I still have so much to do! Well, I’m trying to wrap things up and there’s a lot to deal with when you’re having a wedding at a museum. Today I contacted all of my vendors to make sure they submitted their liability insurance coverage to the museum’s event coordinator. It was tough to find vendors who had insurance coverage. Several photographers, musicians, florists, and officiants I met with didn’t have coverage, which made the wedding planning process much more painful. Also, there are a lot of rules and restrictions, such as no candlelight or dark wine during the cocktail hour. There’s also an exclusive caterer and cake designer, so I really didn’t have any choice for the reception food. Luckily, the caterer is pretty good (the tasting was delicious~!) and the cake designer has been very sweet and easy to work with..

Wedding program fans are such a cute idea. Surprisingly, they are very simple to make if you have all the right tools and instructions. Here’s a great source online on how to make these wedding programs.

Even before I started planning our wedding, I loved checking out local cake designers.. Before moving to Philly, I lived in Chicago for most of my life and I discovered The Cake Girls while working close to their studio. They are perhaps my favorite cake designers, I love their modern style and the intricate and delicate flower details. They have an amazing version of a wedding cake adorned with cherry blossoms and I love their gown-inspired cakes..
