After our first look and a little bride and groom love, we separated to prepare for the ceremony. This was a big moment, you guys. Just looking at the pictures, I tear up!
My veil. Oh. My sweet, sweet veil. It was by far my favorite accessory of the day. When I put it on, I knew our time was finally here. I truly felt like a bride.

It’s the Tuesday before Christmas, and boy, do I have a present for you!
A recap!
Oh myLANTA! A recap?
I know. It’s been a while (weeks? months?), and I’m really sorry for the impromptu disappearance! I have missed your company, your comments, and the reliving of all the special moments of our wedding SO, SO much! But life has been a whirlwind! We took our annual trip to Tennessee (the place where Mr. Brooch proposed) …. I ran a marathon!! …and we’ve been busy nesting our little apartment (hello, whole new world of DIY!!).
Well, I’m BACK and I’m ready to blast off! Will you jump back into the Brooch wedding with me? Do you even remember me? Haha. (If not, there’s tons of pictures below to remind you who the Brooches are!)
My last post revealed our emotional first look, which was directly followed by this time of bride and groom love. These photos hold a special place in my heart. We’ve used them more than any others from the day in our home. We’ve framed them and displayed them; so much so that if you didn’t know us, you might think we were a little narcissistic. What can I say? I’m smitten with us; having seen each other for the first time on this, the most special day in our lives. Our photographers (Meredith Perdue & Graham Terhune) did an amazing job capturing it all on film.
So here you have it: the Brooches, full of love and wedding day bliss.

I had butterflies in my stomach and sweaty palms on my way to meet Mr. Brooch for our first look. The anticipation was high for the both of us. I remember walking out of the manor to the garden, turning to one of my bridesmaids and saying, “I hope he likes me!”
Walking down the stairs to the fountain, I felt a deep sense of thankfulness for such a beautiful venue and great weather. It was a bit overcast at this point, but our photographers said that was perfect for picture taking.

When I got to my bridal suite, I immediately stripped down. I was racing to get ready and make it in time to meet my groom for our first look. My future sister-in-law and my maid of honor dropped everything, and held open my gown so that I could hop in!
They pulled it up, and all I can remember saying is, “Tighter! Pull it as tight as it will go!”

I vividly remember walking up to our venue. We were late and my heart and feet were moving quickly. I planned to run in, and straight upstairs to the bridal suite, but there was a surprise waiting behind those big Victorian-style doors.
“Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!” I screamed! Literally, I screamed! Mr. Brooch says he heard me from all the way out in the garden; he says that is when he knew that I must have seen the surprise chiavari chairs.
Still quickly walking through the Manor, I searched for Pavaune, our planner, and when my eyes met up with hers, I yelled, “What are those doing here?” She grinned.

Why the guys were hanging out in their hotel and taking pictures at the venue, the girls were rushing to get ready. At this point, hair and makeup were done and it was time to rush off to the venue… and I’m not kidding when I say “rush”!
My bridesmaids cleaned up our room in a fury (we were checking out and leaving for the venue simultaneously), and we all rushed down to the parking garage. There were about nine of us total, and we were in three different cars. My maid of honor led the pack driving me and my mom—at the speed of lightning—around the corner to our venue. Again, thank goodness it was close! The drive was probably 5 minutes and it went by so fast that I didn’t quite get a chance to prepare myself for that feeling that hits you when you’re walking up to your venue on your wedding day! Wow. It’s pretty amazing.
Awaiting me inside was the bridal suite that had sealed the deal for us in choosing Exon Hill, and all my beautiful things. Can you see my dress in the reflection of the mirror?

Unlike me, Mr. Brooch only needed about 30 minutes to get ready. From what he tells me about the morning of the wedding, he was ready awhile before the photographer even got there. He said he and his boys spent the morning hanging out in the lobby of the Hampton Inn, which is where all the family stayed, too.

I totally forgot to mention one of the most important parts of our wedding morning! As I was getting my hair done, my mom pulled up a seat next to me and said she had a special gift that she wanted the share with me. Then, she pulled out this little journal and an envelope.
Immediately, I loved it. You guys know my love for butterflies. Not only that, but I’ve always loved to write and my mom knows this about me. Read more…

Did you ever see the shoes we picked for the bridesmaids? Aren’t they darling? I was so excited to see their outfits come together! We were finally getting ready for the big day! Hair. Makeup. Outfits. All a girl’s favorite things!
We started on my hair and took a few photos with my bridesmaids, but it was time to get down to business! Despite the fact that we started around 8 in the morning, it was already 11 and I didn’t have a lick of makeup on and my hair wasn’t the way I wanted it. Mind you, the first look was scheduled for 12:30. Ah! Ladies, please make sure you give yourself ample time to get ready the morning of your wedding!

I also couldn’t wait to connect with Weddingbee! I woke up at 7 AM and the first thing I did was text message my best friend staying down the hall to borrow her laptop for my last post as a Miss.

You remember my cousin’s super cool groom’s cake, right? Well, I had to make sure Mr. Brooch got something as equally awesome and he totally did with this delicious Snickers cake!
Unbelievable, right? I loved it!
All of Mr. Brooch’s groomsmen knew who the cake was for as they entered the seating area for our rehearsal dinner. Mr. Brooch is a HUGE Snickers fan! He eats one (sometimes a few, if they are minis) after every meal.

OK, y’all! Here goes nothin’! Let the Brooch recaps begin…
I have the fondest memories of the day before our wedding despite all the last minute running around. My Maid of Honor, Chelly was really helpful, too! She picked me up from my apartment and we loaded a ton of stuff into her car. She drove me to the mall where she basically sat me down to get my nails done, and then she ran off to get me some food. Hello Chipotle! Yes, you are picturing that correct! I was literally eating beans and rice the morning before the wedding while getting my nails done! Glamorous, ay?
I also had to run a few errands in the mall, but Chelly made sure we were on schedule. We arrived at the National Harbor right in time to check into my hotel suite and unload. Phew!
Just a few hours later, I met up with Mr. Brooch at the Westin Hotel’s restaurant. They were nice enough to let us use the area (free of charge!) right before it opened for our rehearsal.
