Sticky Situation

November 13th, 2007 @ 12:30 pm by Mrs. Bubblegum

Yesterday, armed with the suggestions of many bees and bee-readers (thank you all), I set off to the store with the intent of implementing an array of non-stick ideas.

I should start by saying that, somehow, when I got to the store, I flaked and forgot to buy Pam for Baking.. but I have an excuse!! When I went to the first store, I became disgusted by their lack of cake-mix selection (the nerve) and was forced to go to another store (sometimes life is just so hard). By the time I got there, I was so flustered that it totally slipped my mind!

But get this. Little did I know, but in my infinite wisdom, I had apparently bought Wilton’s Cake Release at some point since my last cake trial (and had hidden it at the bottom of my cake decorating basket). Not willing to take any chances with my sticky situation, I combined the Cake Release with the parchment paper:

Mm.. Floor Pie.

November 9th, 2007 @ 3:24 pm by Mrs. Bubblegum

Back in the summer of ’04, I was housesitting for my brother and SIL during their month-long honeymoon to Italy. As it turns out, the summer of ’04 was also the summer of wedding cakes on the Food Network. Plus they had tivo. It was that summer that I learned (in theory only) the magic of fondant and decided that my wedding cake would be my own creation.

Not only do I want to make my own wedding cake because I like to control every situation, but also… guess what, it’s cheaper (even including practice cakes). After being engaged a couple months, I let on to Mr. Bubblegum that I thought we could take on this challenge. He was skeptical, but he humored me by tagging along while I shopped for all the wedding cake-making accessories I thought I would need. Granted, I had never made a wedding cake before, but how hard could it be?

That weekend, I devoted a day to making a practice wedding cake. I decided to make it on a slightly smaller scale, but I learned some good lessons nonetheless. Here’s how it turned out:

Tag Sale

November 8th, 2007 @ 4:13 pm by Mrs. Bubblegum

I mean literally – the sale of tags.

What else could it be??

Ever since my bridesmaids’ dress color project, I have been super obsessed with the idea of tags. I am still struggling to incorporate it into my escort cards. I just think it’s a really fun shape that adds a unique touch, however you may use them. Here are some great ones from etsy:

About Mrs. Bubblegum

A little while back, one of my coworkers got me into a one-week-long origami phase. It was during this time that I decided that origami something would have to make an appearance at my wedding.

I first considered the idea of 1000 cranes. However, as you may imagine, the idea of making 1000 origami cranes was not horribly appealing to me. I even did the math.. “if i make 3 cranes per day..”

My next idea was to include it in the invitation. Since the invitations were going to be home-made anyway, how about a home-made touch? But after (literally) a few weeks of looking for an origami pattern that was a) doable b) pretty and c) flat-ish, I decided that mailing my origami was probably not the best idea.

I finally settled on the idea that I would affix my origami creations to the escort cards. It was not until yesterday, however, that that idea took flight.

For Love Of My Bridesmaids

November 7th, 2007 @ 12:24 pm by Mrs. Bubblegum

My gameplan for bm dresses has evolved over time.  My first instinct was to pick a color at David’s Bridal and let them pick their styles.  However, there are only a few (tea length or shorter) styles available in “peridot”:

Celebrity Locks

November 6th, 2007 @ 12:27 pm by Mrs. Bubblegum

I must say… this is just about the most fun one person should have on a Sunday afternoon.

If you’re wondering what to do with your hair on your wedding day, look no further! At InStyle’s website, you can try on hair from dozens of celebrities! You can either a) create a virtual you or b) upload your own picture. I must say that the second is WAY more fun. Although it requires you to create an account, it’s totally free and totally worth it! I would suggest using a headshot where you’re looking straight and your hair is pulled away from your face.

Here are some of my results! (I do apologize in advance for the bazillion copies of my face below. I’m sick of it too, but gosh durnit, it was SO MUCH FUN!)

Scientific Discoveries

November 5th, 2007 @ 3:39 pm by Mrs. Bubblegum

There is one venue in particular that, were money not an object, I would love love LOVE to use.

I’m pretty sure that most little girls dream of having a “Mathematica” room at their wedding venue like I do… if that appeals to you, you’re in luck! Because the Boston Museum of Science does weddings! They can accommodate 25 to 4500 guests, and they are catered exclusively through Wolfgang Puck catering..

The Blue Wing

This is the central hall. There’s a 45-ft. T-Rex in one corner and an Apollo module floating overhead.

The “Story” Of Us

November 4th, 2007 @ 3:29 pm by Mrs. Bubblegum

Mr. Bubblegum and I will forever disagree on how we started dating.  The basic concept is there, but who liked who when and where is all up in the air.  As part of our wedding website, we each decided to tell our side of the story.

Her Story

It was the first night of college, and I was out looking for friends.  There was one room right across the hall from the common room that seemed to be brimming, so I made my way.  After many introductions and too many names to faces, I took a seat at one of the desks and rudely started playing Tetris on the graphing calculator that sat there.  After setting the highest score that calculator had ever seen (it’s been a while, so my memory on that might be murky), I noticed a letter on the desk addressed to “Willis.”  I thought I had met a “Will,” but could that skinny little shy kid sitting in the middle of the bed really have a name as bold as “Willis”?  As such, I exclaimed, “Is your name really Willis?!?!?!?!?”

Who Says You Can’t Pop Your Gum?

November 2nd, 2007 @ 4:56 pm by Mrs. Bubblegum

Hello fellow bees, bee-keepers, and bee-enthusiasts!!!!  Miss Bubblegum here - SUPER excited to join the hive!  As Mrs. Bee was kind enough to point out, my headshot looks like I’ve won an award.. because THAT’S how I FEEL!

I have been planning my wedding now for 8 short months and have 7 shorter months ahead. Has anyone else had those moments when they say, “no need to worry.. it’s over a year away..” only seconds later to realize it is, in fact, NOT over a year away and has not been so for several months? Well gosh, me too!

I have been THOROUGHLY enjoying weddingbee ever since Mrs. Lemon’s fabric invitations were credited on a knottie bio. Did I mention I was super excited to be here??

Annd a little background.. Like Miss Canary, I also met the love of my life on my first day at Boston University. (So weird, right? It actually rains love potion in Boston - did you know that?) We lived on the same floor our freshman year and met the day we moved in. After a couple months of testing the water (and drinking the love potion), we finally started dating on October 27, 2001. We recently celebrated 6 years of un-wedded bliss and are ready to add a new anniversary to the list.
