Mr. Canary and I booked our honeymoon!!! Well, the most essential part. We had been considering honeymoon options for a long time and knew two things:
A very long trip (3 weeks)
A super interactive experience. We can be beach bums, but we’re pretty A.D.D. so we want to do a lot of activities
We both love to bike ride. It was even featured on our attendant invites. We’re not hardcore by any means so when I stumbled on the Bike Riders travel site, I was ecstatic! It’s a mix of everything we want - intimate inns/hotels, engaging tours that include cooking classes and gallery viewings, and best of all you bike to each of your destinations.

You’d think finding the person you want to spend the rest of your life is, well, hard enough… but then you probably haven’t gone wedding gown shopping yet! What to wear? Isn’t it the thing that creates the most anxiety before any event?
I am conforming with Chinese tradition and therefore will have four dress changes. Who am I kidding? I love that I get to wear more than one dress! Though I’m excited for all the dresses– in the shopping stages, it gets a little crazy.
I picked out my wedding dress before the venue, which is a little nuts because one of the first questions you get asked at these appointments is, “How formal is your wedding? What’s the event space like?” To be honest, I didn’t expect to buy a dress that early in the game, but once I got engaged, I found myself in these shops browsing and what’s the point of browsing if you can’t try? And once you try and find the right one… why not just buy it?

The first florist we met with back in August had such great ideas. Since our space has this long and wide hallway, he suggested that we include columns filled with petals or water and floating candles to warm up the space along the walls. To draw attention to the center and entrance, he suggested draping sheer fabric. And since we opted for a DJ, he suggested we have some chaises or lounge-y sofas near the dancefloor. It’d make it feel more inviting and since we’re having a lot of older guests, this way they can get in on the action too!
I had an image for everything, but what stumped me was when he asked, “So what were you thinking for the ceremony?” For once, I was speechless. I didn’t even consider flowers for the ceremony! Mr. C and I are not religious so we didn’t need an altar or chuppah. So the florist suggested two large floral “pieces” - not necessarily a trellis or arch, but branches that eventually connect.

My MOH and I spent our lazy Sunday strolling down 5th Avenue before heading to dinner and a movie. One of our favorite pastimes is to go shoe-lurking… not shopping… just lurking. We purposely go into shops like Bergdorf Goodman knowing there is a snowball’s chance in hell we’ll be able to afford anything in there… so we are not tempted! MOH also has the best sample size foot (compared to my honking clown feet) so she would guinea pig it by trying all the shoes we coveted right on the floor. HA! Some of our favorites from our shoe-scursion:

Mr. Canary and I are bickerers… not in a bad way… well it does get bad once in a while, but never bad enough that we can’t get over it.
We are both Type-As who have to be right. Perfect mix for a marriage, don’t you think? But at the end of the day, we are tickled by what we argue over, usually meaningless stuff.

I’ve always had this big dream of opening a paper shop but that’s all it is… a big bloated fantasy! But if I were, there are so many resources out there to help you. Books such as Craft, Inc. are super informative and communities like Etsy offer a great place to start.
I noticed a lot of brides use the opportunity of planning their wedding to start a lot of DIY projects, end up really loving it and decide to go into business to help other folks. If you don’t want to go into business but are interested in learning a few new tricks or hobbies, there are a ton of places, especially in New York, to take classes. I love little mini courses where I can pick up a few skills or at least set aside time to focus on a project I otherwise would ignore with so much going on!
So here goes my list of places to learn a new craft in New York… I’m sure I will probably end up taking one soon and get inspired for a wedding project!
Please feel free to add other great schools/programs in other cities or anything I’ve missed in New York.

Mrs. Bee was kind enough to take me along with her to Martha Stewart Wedding’s annual Bridal Market party at Tavern on the Green last night. What fun! There were a ton of wedding world celebrities as well as drool-worthy displays and food. Here’s some photo inspiration for all the Martha fans out there. Enjoy!
The beautiful grounds of Tavern on the Green. It was the perfect night, cool and comfortable. The lanterns and lights added great atmosphere to the event.

While skimming through my bazillion magazines last night, I noticed a promotion for Visa and, of course, shopping!
Check out the details - there are lots of great discounts just for using your Visa card.
Includes retailers such as: Banana Republic (which is coming out with some great colored satin products, slated to hit stores Nov. 6), Target, Bluefly, and Urban Outfitters.
Happy shopping!

It took me a while to figure out what to wear for our engagement shoot. Since they were more casual photos of us, I didn’t want to look too dressed up, but at the same time not too dressed down.
Angelica provided us with some great outfit tips:
Go bold!
If you wear a dress, try something long and flowy which allows for more creative movement and poses
If you’re wearing something more casual, add cute shoes or bold jewelry to spice it up
If you wear jeans or something more edgy, make sure your fiance dresses that way too
Wear more makeup than you normally wear because it really will bring out your features in the pictures. You might feel like you are wearing a lot, but the camera does not pick it up that way
No khakis
No big brown work shoes (loafers)
Moisturize! Even the guys
Keep in mind that your hands will appear in many of the photos, so it’s important that they are neat/manicured. Goes for guys too!
Mr. Canary wears khakis almost every day, so he had to change it up a little! “No Khakis” because Angelica often asks her clients to lay out or get into grass for some shots. So Mr. C was set with wearing jeans, a nice button down shirt and a chocolate brown corduoroy jacket.
