About candycorn

I’ve never been a huge fan of flowers, considering how much they make my eyes puff up and give me sneezing fits that usually result in a series of unfortunate faces. After being disappointed by a number of florists in Philadelphia who weren’t willing to work with our humble budget, I was dreading the search for the perfect florist. I decided to grow a pair and face my florist fear head on and do what any bride-to-be would do…I browsed Google for over a week in search of the perfect florist. I nearly gave up, until I discovered Carl Alan Creations, a company that had each of those five little yellow stars filled in on every single review.

I don’t mean to sound like an infomercial, but Carl Alan Creations brought our visions to life while keeping in mind every aspect of our wedding. Before our initial consultation, Carl asked me to e-mail him as many of the details of our wedding as I could: photos of my dress and the bridesmaid dresses, the venue, centerpiece ideas, our theme and colors, etc. Our consultation was about an hour and a half and it was one of those moments where everything felt like it was coming together smoothly (dare I say like buttah?), and it all was starting to feel so real. Carl gave us ideas on how to make our vision fit within our budget, while remaining classy and true to our personalities. After meeting with Carl, he turned us to his creative design team, who whipped together bouquet mock-ups in less than five minutes and had me designing my own dream bouquet, as well as the bridesmaids’ bouquets.

Our wedding ceremony & reception will be taking place at the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology Philadelphia. Mr. CC and I chose the UPenn Museum after browsing several nearby mansions and hotels because we fell in love with the Chinese Rotunda and the Buddhist elements that run throughout the third floor of the museum. Plus, we get to ring the gong before being introduced as a Mr. and Mrs. Candy Corn. And by we I mean Mr. CC, after all he is the music major and I can’t even play the triangle without hearing dogs cry tears of extreme doggy disappointment from miles away.

A large portion of the galleries and exhibits will be on display for guests to explore on their own throughout the evening. These galleries include: Mesopotamia, ancient Israel, India, Tibet and their newly reinstalled classical galleries.

The ceremony itself will be taking place in the Chinese Rotunda, a majestic setting for the Museum’s Chinese collection, where our guests will be seated under the largest unsupported masonry dome in the United States:

(think Christian from Project Runway when saying “fierce”)

To help you guys get a better idea of what we’re basing the tuxes/dresses around, here is the color palette we’re working with:

For the ladies, they will be wearing navy dresses with brown ribbons from Priscilla of Boston. It took me forever to find something that was somewhat vintage-inspired and something the girls could see themselves being able to wear more than once, but I think we did it! As far as shoes and accessories go (along with brooches), I told my bridesmaids they could all choose whatever they wanted to go with their dresses, since each of them has such a unique sense of style.

Psst… New Girl Here!

May 6th, 2008 @ 3:15 pm by Mrs. Candy Corn

Hey party people! I’m Miss Candy Corn and I’m a self-proclaimed Weddingbee addict. During my lunch breaks I sit at my desk with my mouth gaping open, staring at how beautiful and witty all of the bees on here are. I never thought I’d be chosen to be part of such a rockin’ hive! Consider me flattered beyond words! Since my boy and I are getting hitched in October, I figured candy corn was just the seasonal treat I was looking for! Plus, who doesn’t love the waxy tri-colored wonder? Come to think of it, I suppose I do know a lot of people who don’t appreciate the festive confection as much as I do (and I can’t blame them).

Here is the CliffsNotes version of my life:

I’m a Philadelphia-based artist and magazine editor planning a non-religious, blue & brown, bird-themed wedding with my hubby-to-be, Mr. Candy Corn. Nearly six years ago, Mr. CC and I met as freshmen, several days before classes started at Kutztown University (in the cornfields of Pennsylvania). A circle of friends had been forming outside on our campus’s lawn between the dorms, when I spotted Mr. CC in his death metal t-shirt and barely-still-together red chucks. He was pacing around outside by himself and looked too shy to say hello, so our mini circle of new friends shouted “Hey, come join the circle!”
