About Mrs. Cardigan

And now it’s time for my favorite part of any recaps ever. The details. Before I get into the dinner and dancing portion of the night, I want to give you a quick look at how our reception looked.

Let’s just jump right in, shall we?

First up, here’s the dining room all set up. One of my favorite memories from this room is the moment that I was running to the bridal room just minutes before the ceremony began. I ducked through here so I could cut through the kitchen, and it was the first time I had seen the room all set up. I was in a hurry so it was a bit of a blur, but I remember as soon as I made it to the bridal room, I kept replaying the glimpse I got in my head—I couldn’t get over how much I loved it!

About Mrs. Cardigan

We didn’t have much time for photos of Mr. Cardigan and me because we were insistent on not having a first look.

I definitely don’t regret that decision, and even though we only had about 20 minutes to take photos after the ceremony, it was one of my favorite parts of the day.

Take My Sweater: The Bride and Groom : wedding austin pictures pro pics recap 11 1

It was the only part of the day that we were totally alone (except for our photographer) and it was so nice to have a few minutes to be with my new husband and bask in the glow of being married.

Take My Sweater: The Processional

April 20th, 2011 @ 1:46 pm by Mrs. Cardigan

I felt like we had only been waiting in the bridal room for seconds before our DOC walked in and asked if we were ready to go.

Everyone looked at me, anticipating my answer, and I wasn’t quite sure what to say. Of course I was ready to go, but holy cow it came quickly! I definitely could have used a few more minutes to gather myself before walking down the aisle, but there was no time. The guests were waiting—and so was Mr. Cardigan—and it was time to get the ceremony started!

Take My Sweater: The Moments Before

April 18th, 2011 @ 4:57 pm by Mrs. Cardigan

Our guests were just starting to arrive as I rushed into the venue, ran through the kitchen (some people were already seated in the ceremony room, and I didn’t want to walk through it and be seen!) and dove into the bridal room.

Take My Sweater: The Moments Before : wedding austin pictures pro pics recap 119 1

My nerves were running high, but thankfully there was champagne in the room to help calm me down. The time I spent in this room is a bit of a blur to me, because I was so incredibly nervous and excited. I just remember pacing around the room and trying not to throw up. I’ve never in my life been so excited for anything.

Take My Sweater: Ceremony Details

April 15th, 2011 @ 8:16 am by Mrs. Cardigan

Before we get into the ceremony itself, I thought it would be nice to show you what the ceremony room looked like all set up.

I was very insistent on wanting to keep the ceremony room very simple - there are huge windows with gorgeous views of the lake, and the architecture in the room is beautiful, so I didn’t want to detract from any of that. I’m so, so glad we decided to keep it simple, because I loved the way it turned out!

Those stupid, evil flower balls took so. much. time to put together, but I absolutely loved how they looked in the room.

Take My Sweater: The Bridal Party

April 11th, 2011 @ 4:05 pm by Mrs. Cardigan

Much like the family photos, taking a ton of bridal party portraits was not something Mr. Cardigan and I were interested in. We absolutely love the photos that we do have, but we have all we need and we didn’t spend a ton of time on them. We took two sets of photos (with both family and bridal party)—one before the ceremony when Mr. Cardy and I hadn’t seen each other, and one after the ceremony.

I actually felt that doing the photos in two separate batches like that helped space things out and helped me (and everyone else) not get annoyed with standing there and smiling for forever. By breaking it up into two photo sessions, we got a little break in-between posing, which was very nice!

Alright, enough talk—let’s get to the photos! First up, I’ll share the ones taken before the ceremony.

Ladies first!

Take My Sweater: Family Photos

April 4th, 2011 @ 6:19 pm by Mrs. Cardigan

After what seemed like an eternity, it was time for me to leave my hotel room and venture out into our venue to actually, really, truly get married.

Of course, before that could happen we had a few more photos to take.

I know, I know: family photos don’t make the most exciting post ever. However, I want to share them for a very specific reason. I always hear that people set aside lots and lots of time for these photos, and that was not what I wanted to do.

These posed, formal portraits weren’t nearly as important to me as the candid ones, and I knew I probably wouldn’t display them in my house. We took less than 30 minutes for all of the family photos combined, and I feel like the ones we got are great, and I don’t feel like I’m missing anything at all.

So, for those of you who don’t want to set aside a ton of time for portraits and are being told you’re crazy—you aren’t!

Take My Sweater: Bridal Portraits

March 31st, 2011 @ 4:12 pm by Mrs. Cardigan

Alright, y’all, it’s about to get a little self-centered up in here. Fair warning.

Before we headed out to take family photos and whatnot, Melanie forced me to sit down for a few bridal shots. I say forced because, at the time, I totally wasn’t interested in taking these photos. I was antsy and anxious and I wanted to get the hell out of that room.

HOWEVER. Mel totally knew what she was talking about because I’m so glad I have these. It’s not like I’ll ever hang them up in our house or anything (awkward!) but it’ll be nice to look back on these and remember that I used to be young and hot. Take My Sweater: Somethings

March 28th, 2011 @ 6:40 pm by Mrs. Cardigan

I have to admit, I didn’t really put that much effort into making sure that I had the “somethings” for my bridal outfit. It wasn’t something I was particularly concerned with, and considering all of the other stuff I had to do, it ended up falling pretty low on the priority list.

However, on the day of the wedding I was surprised to find that I really did have all of the somethings!

My dress had been waiting on me for a long time. I bought it over a year before the wedding, hung it up in my old room at my parents’ house, and only tried it on when I visited them every few months.

It had been neglected for quite some time, but now…it was time for the dress to have its moment in the spotlight!

Take My Sweater: Getting Pretty!

March 23rd, 2011 @ 3:51 pm by Mrs. Cardigan

At this point in the day, I felt very ready.

I was totally antsy and ready to get the show on the road. It was nice having a very relaxing wedding day, but the downfall was that I didn’t have much to keep me busy and I was a bit anxious to just get married already.

However, there wasn’t much I could do about that until our photographer got there. I was determined to have some getting ready photos, so I was just sitting around twiddling my thumbs until Melanie arrived. When she first got there, she stopped by the guys’ room to snap a few shots of them, prolonging my wait even further. I seriously thought my head might explode if I had to sit there and just wait any longer. I think this was the point where I took to just pacing around the room to let out some of my extra energy.

But I’m oh-so-glad we have these photos.
