I love shipping tags!

I first saw shipping tags used as price tags on some of my early antique purchases for wedding decor. They immediately struck me as pretty, shabby-chic and insanely appropriate for wedding ambiance. I decided to use them somehow.

My first idea was making tags into place/escort cards for everyone. In my vision, they were either laid out on a table in rows, or tied to wine glasses to help guests keep their glass as well as find their seat.

But the place card idea was quickly shoved under the rug for the amount of work that went into it as a last-minute project:

About Mrs. Cherry Pie

Getting married in a tiny Montana town with only a saloon and mercantile has kept me on the lookout for subtle ways to introduce elements of the West/Old West into our wedding. So far I’ve got my boots and my cowboy hat, but I haven’t found many other Western accessories that aren’t complete overkill.

These garter flask holders by Juliette, however, are perfect…

I’m not sure where I first saw Juliette garters, but I lusted after them for some time before anteing up and buying one a few weeks ago. Mine will be my “something blue”:

DIY Can Lanterns

August 11th, 2008 @ 5:14 pm by Mrs. Cherry Pie

Do you have a metric ton of tin cans in your recycle bin? Well holy smokes, so do I! At least, I did until I decided to use them for our wedding, and then we had a metric ton of tin cans in our freezer.

Allow me to explain. A while ago, I received a can lantern for my birthday. This funky bit of recycled goodness was a gift from my sister, purchased for next to nothing at Portland’s infamous Saturday market. It looked a little something like this:

Seriously, how cool is that? And if one thing pairs well with mason jar vases to complement a rustic vibe, it’s tin can lanterns.

But the type of lantern above requires either a dremel or a torch, neither of which I own. So, I decided to undertake my own variety, using the tools I had on hand.

All The Dress That’s Fit To Print

August 11th, 2008 @ 8:34 am by Mrs. Cherry Pie

This Tuesday, I had my second dress fitting at La Belle Elaine’s in downtown Seattle. Due to a hectic work day and stupid scheduling on my part, I was forced to ride my bike to the fitting in 90 degree heat. The trip was only 2.2 miles, which is nothing, but it was still a stupid idea. The salespeople looked at me like I was insane (I don’t think they’ve ever seen a bike commuter bride before) and I had to spend a good 5 minutes toweling off before I felt safe putting on my dress. EUGH.

It was still wicked hot in the fitting room, which at least gave me an idea of what it would be like wearing my dress in some serious heat. The outcome? Very sticky, sweaty inner thighs. YUCK. :( Good thing I (probably) won’t have to worry about heat like that on my wedding day!

OK, enough jibba jabba. Let’s get on to the pics, which means NO PEEKING PAST THIS POINT, MR. CHERRY PIE!

Gifts for My Girls

August 7th, 2008 @ 12:46 pm by Mrs. Cherry Pie

Hot on the heels of Mr. Cherry Pie’s post about his groomsmen gifts, I present my gifts for my bridesmaids!

That means no peeking, ladies!

Not unless you want to ruin the surprise. Err, surpriSES. Unlike Mr. Cherry Pie, I have several things in store for my bridesmaids. Some are more traditional and others are definitely different.

About Mrs. Cherry Pie

If you’re one of Mr. Cherry Pie’s groomsmen you probably should stop reading. That means you: Jason, Karl, Tom, Mark and Micah.

Right. Like there’s any chance they’re reading this right now… nevertheless! I (Mr. Cherry Pie, that is) got started on finding gifts for my groomsmen relatively late in the game. By late, I mean that Miss Cherry Pie had several projects in the works at least a month or more before I even considered what to get my groomsmen.

I suppose I could have just gotten them ties, but I think that matching ties would be a pretty mild “Thank You” in exchange for driving out to Montana and buying suits on my behalf, don’t you?

About Mrs. Cherry Pie

We sent out our invitations dangerously close to the July 30 RSVP date, so we’re giving our guests—and the Postal Service—a little extra time to respond. Over the last week we’ve been watching our RSVPs roll in (or not, in the case of some pesky procrastinators), a few at a time, day by day, and we’ve noticed a disappointing trend.

I knew that when we started planning a destination wedding in Montana, we would forfeit the attendance of some much-loved guests. Many of the East Coast relatives on Mr. Cherry Pie’s dad’s side of the family have a history with Glacier and money to spare, so we expect to see most of them there. However, Polebridge seems like the end of the world to most of my Michigan relatives, which makes it just as remote as the dark side of the moon.

As a result, we’ve so far received about 24 “yes” responses from Mr. CP’s dad’s side (including 6 relatives neither of us have ever met), 8 “yes” responses from Mr. CP’s mom’s side… and only six total “yes” responses from both sides of my family.

This six includes my mom, dad, three sisters, and one aunt.

Ouch.

Putting On A Pretty Face

August 1st, 2008 @ 9:29 am by Mrs. Cherry Pie

After deliberating about the results of my May makeup trial in Montana, I decided that I would just DIY my face on the day-of. Honestly, I feel relieved. I’m confident about doing my own makeup and the money I’ll save on the day-of application (including hourly fee and transportation for the makeup artist to the hotel) will more than cover the cost of new makeup colors that I can use for months to come.

I want to share what products and colors I’m using. That way, any of you considering doing your own makeup can see that it doesn’t all have to be matchy-matchy high-end products… you can spend in some areas and save in others.

But first, let me explain the look I’m going for.

Thinking Inside the Box

July 30th, 2008 @ 12:30 pm by Mrs. Cherry Pie

I love old wooden boxes!

Little ones, big ones, crates and containers… I think they’re just so neat and special looking.

In fact, I picked up something pretty much just like this Dupont Explosives box (but more weathered) at the Fremont Sunday Antique Market a few months ago…

Hard Pillow, Soft Pillow

July 29th, 2008 @ 2:00 pm by Mrs. Cherry Pie

For our wedding, I’ve decided I wanted something… firmer… than the average ring pillow. In fact, I want to forgo fabric and plush entirely for a more “natural” look. And while I think the ever-popular Paloma’s Nest Ring Bowls are beautiful, they just aren’t quite what I’m looking for.

I want something that evokes a natural, rustic, ambiance without being puffy or floofy. I’m quite taken with these moss and twig “nests”…

1. Very pretty, but a bit too “puffy.”
