About Me: Mr. Chick and I met almost ten years ago at Baker Blues, a college jazz party. He was attracted to my intensity, and I was mesmerized by his trivia pursuit skills and his dorm furniture adorned with his initials. We've grown more sophisticated through the years, with our love of wine, owning a house together, and parenthood (of a cat), but we have not lost our silliness or childish sense of humor!
I am so SO excited about this post! I’ve been thinking about bridesmaid’s dresses for longer than my own wedding dress! I’m not sure why, but there’s something about bridesmaid’s dresses that just tickle my fancy. I’ve decided on J.Crew dresses in the color “light pewter”, aka, light gray. They will also have pink flower or bow accents (either a brooch or belt). I’m also letting my BMs choose the style of the dress. Now the problem is that I’m not sure whether I should decide on one fabric or let it be a free-for-all type of deal. Here are the dresses categorized by material:

I’m sure you have all noticed the current trend of mustache props in engagement and wedding photos. ‘What is that all about?’ you might have wondered to yourself. Well, I have no idea but I know I like it!! And when I saw these on OnceWed I knew I had to have them!

Today is my second day at home from work with bacon flu. Okay, I don’t really have bacon flu, but it’s fun to say bacon! I can’t stop blowing my nose, sneezing, or eating Gardetto’s (skipping the sesame bread sticks, eek). Anyway, I was watching The Office: Pam and Jim’s wedding promo, and I noticed the adorable cake toppers!! It’s vintage, but quirky at the same time:

Did you have your cake topper custom made? Do the toppers represent or resemble you in any way?

It’s finally here! The dress post!!
Let me catch you up on what’s happened so far in Miss Chick’s search for The One.
It all started three months after I got engaged. I had been living in post engagement euphoria and was procrastinating actual planning of any kind. I believe my exact words were, “maybe it’ll all just come together on its own?” Mama Chang asked me about why I haven’t been talking about the wedding, if I was excited, and what kind of dress I would like. I was trying to prevent in advance from being a bridezilla and so I said, “oh you know, I don’t want to stress about it. I’m sure I’ll find a dress that I like. It doesn’t have to be THE dress, you know? I’ll just find something in my price range and I’m sure it’ll be fine.”
But it wasn’t.

Here is some more great inspiration for the upcoming engagement shoot, and some great ideas for invitations. Lulusan (otherwise known as engagement photographer extraordinaire) discovered a great new blog! I can’t stop reading Le Love. I can totally see my more literary friends swooning over the love poems, but as for me, I am more of a “picture is worth a million words” girl:

Hi everyone!
Well, as you know, just a mere week ago, I was a sad bride walking around like this (Arrested Development fans, this is a must watch) because of all the venue drama.

(Source)
I even joked about walking down the aisle this way. Now that we have our venue settled (OK, 95% settled. I’ll know more in two weeks and of course I will keep you guys posted!) I am back with wedding blog fever! Lulu and I went location scouting for our engagement shoot (scheduled for Oct 24th) a month ago and I thought I would give you a little taste!

Halp! I need to find a great hair fascinator!
Our engagement shoot is scheduled for October 24th with the mighty Lulu and her loyal assistant, Liang. I will be wearing my Blaire dress:

I think I will leave my hair down but make it into big curls, 1940s style! Now all I need is a perfect hair fascinator. Here are the ones I’ve narrowed it down to:

Now that we finally have a venue (well, we’re 95% certain), I feel like I can move on with planning! Phew!
My awesome fashionista friend and fellow bride S sent me Sara Gabriel’s website full of unique and beautiful veils. These are some of my favorites:

Better late than never, right? Here goes my story!
How I found Weddingbee
This is a pretty interesting story, actually! Mrs. Apple Cider and my MOH/older sister work together! My sister sent me Mrs. Apple Cider’s blog with a note: “I work with her! She has the cutest ideas!” I was immediately obsessed with her blog and read every single entry retroactively. Then one day I read her ecstatic post on being accepted as a bee and I wondered what in the world she was talking about.
The rest is history!
How I became a Weddingbee blogger
Life is funny. A couple of months before I applied to be a wedding blogger, Mr. Chick and I had just gotten back from a trip to Italy. We went to Rome and Tuscany for about two weeks. When I got back, I had an intense Italy-lovin’ bug and I wanted to remember every second of the trip. It was the first trip that I really, really planned. Usually I loosely plan our trips (as in, I book hotels and look for 3 or 4 things to do while we are there). But for this trip, I planned every minute of it. I blame Google Docs. Anyway, I wanted to have a photo and text journal, and thought blogging was the perfect way to preserve my memories and to share with others. Here is the blog if you would like to see it. A couple of months later, I went home to help my parents move from New Jersey to Taiwan. In the process, I found my eighth and ninth grade journal. Hilarity ensued while reading it, and my sister insisted that I transcribe the journal, in blog form. I guess you can say I had/have blog fever!
Long story short, I started with a couple of binders and divider pages of inspirational photos for our wedding, then quickly realized I was using up a lot of ink and paper printing from the interwebs.

You may remember our adventures in trying to find a venue in this post. At first, we thought (okay, really, I thought) I would want an indoor wedding, because I’m not a very outdoorsy kind of gal. But after seeing all the beautiful pictures of farm/vineyard/barn weddings (and comparing the budget spreadsheets for indoor vs. outdoor weddings), we’ve decided on having a farm wedding! After looking at these pictures, it just suddenly clicked that farm weddings suited both Mr. Chick’s and my budget and tastes!
The two places we are considering are Matt Family Orchards in Tomball, Texas and Cielitos Ranch in Pattison, Texas. We loved Cielitos Ranch, but unfortunately, the owner decided last week that since her daughter (who is an awesome Weddingbee reader!) is also getting married at the ranch at around the same time, it would be too much to handle. I totally understand, and I would hate to bring more stress to someone’s life (god knows I understand the stress of weddings!).
Last Wednesday, Mr. Chick and I went over to our friend M’s house to watch Glee. I was complaining about how it was impossible to find a cool affordable venue, when M asked me what we were looking for. As it turns out, her family owns a house and seven acres of land in Conroe, Texas!

So, you guys know how much I love flower accents for our bridesmaids. I’ve found so many different flower belts, flower combs, and hair clips. Today, I found something that’s possibly even better, something that really suits my personality! My sister has always made fun of me for my Hello-Kitty-like obsession with bows. I love bow necklaces, earrings, dresses—really, if a bag a dog poo had a bow on it, I would probably buy it. ANYways, take a look at these!

Thanks to awesome readers from this post, Mr. Chick and I had more of an idea of what kind of suit and which designers he could try. We went to Brooks Brothers to try on the Black Fleece line, Burberry, and Saks 5th Avenue. Just to try things on, of course! I’m (mostly) a smart shopper, so I want to wait for sales/coupons. Maybe around Christmas time we can go out and purchase something…
First, we went to Brooks Brothers, of course.

I’ve always admired Lisa Ling’s looks, personality, and career. With the recent affairs of her sister’s involvement with the North Korean government, I am even more in awe of her entire family. When my friend and fellow soon-to-be-bride friend Synthia sent me these pictures, I just had to share them! Talk about Asian chic!
