This installment of my ‘Looking Back’ series* focuses on one of the details about my big day that I am really glad I did: Instead of sequestering myself away while getting ready, I had lots of friends stop by. I opened the doors of the condo where I was getting ready and said ‘the more the merrier’.

This installment of my ‘Looking Back’ series* focuses on one of the details about my big day that I wish I had done differently: I should have taken a moment to focus.

So this one is a small thing, but I hope it’s meaningful that I have made it my goal to share it with every bride I ever encounter…

When you think about it; your wedding day is just. one. day. The hours and the minutes of your wedding day are divided up the same as any other day of your life. The ceremony, for most people, is 30 - 60 minutes of one day of your whole life. And the time it takes to walk down the aisle is mere seconds.

And you don’t ever get to do it again.

Cherish. that. moment.

This installment of my ‘Looking Back’ series* focuses on one of the details about my big day that I am very, very grateful for:I was able to work out a way for my dad to participate.

My father is a wonderful, amazing man. I am so incredibly fortunate to be loved by someone with such a big heart. As ridiculously sentimental as this sounds, two of the things I was most looking forward to the day of our wedding were 1) walking down the aisle with my dad and 2) dancing with him at the reception.

As many of you know, my father is handicapped; he walks with a walker and can handle a cane, but only for short bouts and definitely only if the ground is flat. The walk from the fort (where I was hiding out) to the top of the aisle was 105 yards over a field. There was no way my dad could walk all of that.

So we arranged for me to be escorted to the top of the aisle where my dad met me and we walked the rest of the way together.

This installment of my ‘Looking Back’ series * focuses on one of the details about my big day that I wish I had done differently.

Basically, every single wedding I have ever attended, has started late. Apparently this is not uncommon, as every time I mentioned to anyone-who-would-listen that our wedding would NOT start late, people just started hysterically laughing at me.

So, I made sure that throughout the planning process, my amazing DOC (Colleen with Classic Weddings) knew that if there was one thing that I wanted to happen, I wanted to start walking down the aisle at 5:00pm sharp. There was no way I was going to be the-girl-who-stood-on-a-soapbox-about-weddings-starting-late, who then started her own wedding late.

And just as I requested, on the actual day of our wedding the string trio started playing and we started processing at 5:00pm on. the. dot.

About Mrs. Corn

…Mrs Corn here, reporting the final installment of our visit to Paper-Source this weekend for their wedding event. Earlier installments include:

Defending oneself from Miss Toucan brandishing a hot embossing torch
and
Satiating our appetites for both yummy sweets and delectably calligraphic writing

By far, the most exciting thing that happened during our visit to the store was that we (or rather, our Weddingbee shirts) were recognised by Hayley Hoffman, the East Coast Area Manager of Paper-Source. She had read Mrs Raspberry’s post last year about the paper-wedding dress that was on display in Alexandria.

Reporting To You From The Field…

February 25th, 2008 @ 9:28 am by Mrs. Corn

Miss Canary came to Boston this weekend for a visit and included a stop at the Paper-Source in Brookline in her itinerary. The store was holding their annual wedding workshop complete with demonstrations and refreshments.

Miss Toucan and I, never ones to miss an opportunity for free cake (not to mention the opportunity to meet Miss Canary in person), took it upon ourselves to meet up at the store as well.

The event was very well organized and we all had a great time. In fact, there were so many great things to share about this event that I am breaking this into three posts. I also took lots of pictures for all of you out there who could not attend. Enjoy!

Keeping It All Organized

January 22nd, 2008 @ 9:28 am by Mrs. Corn

Back when I was first engaged (ok… why lie… it was at least a month before we got engaged :)), I purchased a wedding planning book. I had done some research in the bookstores and I had experience as a planner myself, so I knew what I was looking for.

Unfortunately, the most perfect book for me, was also spiral bound. So I bought it, demolished it and put it in a 3-ring binder. Over the months, my binder became stuffed with inspiration photos, business cards, informational articles, invitation mock-ups, vendor contracts in mid-contract, etc. I always had the notion of someday making it all ‘perfect’ and organized, but the reality was, I didn’t have time to figure it all out, and I knew where everything was, so when I needed information, I just went to it.

Tip From Real Simple Weddings

Last week, Mrs Onion blogged about the Real Simple Weddings book that just came out. I was able to get a copy and have just finished pouring through it.

Tip From Real Simple Weddings : wedding books newport Realsim01

I highly recommend this book if you are at the beginning of your planning for your wedding. The information in it is mostly the same as what you see in most wedding magazines… I mean, let’s face it, there are only so many ways to say the same thing.

FINALLY, We Have A Budget

January 11th, 2008 @ 1:21 pm by Mrs. Corn

So…many, many moons ago, I posted about our non-existent wedding budget that had originally started out around $5,000 when we were joking around, hovered around $20,000 for a while and ended up around $30,000.We had a very complex vendor spreadsheet with all of our payments (cash and credit) that we worked with for most of the planning. However, in addition to the vendor spreadsheet, I had about a bazillion little receipts for everything from postage stamps to craft supplies to misc food items we needed the day of the wedding that I just got around to adding to the spreadsheet.

So, FINALLY, I have pulled it all together and figured out what our wedding actually cost.
