Lately I have been having a love affair with old-fashioned coupe champagne glasses. They always look so classy in old movies like Casablanca with Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman:

I decided a few months ago that there won’t be any modern toasting flutes for Mr. Cupcake and me at our wedding, and so began the hunt for the perfect coupe champagne glasses to go along with our vintage vibe.

Personal Style Guide? Yes, Please!

June 15th, 2008 @ 3:33 pm by Miss Cupcake

It may be early to start thinking about what I’ll be wearing during our honeymoon in Antigua (since it’s not for another 3+ months), but when we head to the Caribbean it will be fall in Pennsylvania, and finding cute tropical-worthy attire may not be easy. Usually by early August, the stores are starting to stock their fall clothes, and I don’t want to be stuck without anything cute to wear while enjoying a week of paradise with my new hubby.

Yesterday I got quite an exciting email from one of my favorite stores, Anthropologie: they are now offering complimentary personal shopping at select stores! All you need to do is call to schedule an appointment, and your shopper will mix and match a handful of outfits and accessories in the sizes, colors, and styles that you like.

Invitation Inspiration

June 12th, 2008 @ 1:37 pm by Miss Cupcake

It happened in a flash…. there I was, driving home from work one day, when BAM! The image of our wedding invitations flashed before my eyes. I rushed home, opened Adobe Illustrator, and got to work creating a masterpiece. Within a few hours, voila — we had our invitations.

Okay, that’s a little bit of a fib. Oh alright, that’s a big fib. It’s a downright dirty lie. If you look at my master wedding to-do list, “start designing invitations” was back on February’s list. Well, there I found myself in early May, still hemming and hawing over what in the world to do for our wedding invitations. The few designs I started to work on brutally sucked and kind of made me want to throw up a little when I looked at them. I knew I had to get the design to the printer by early June in order to allow ample production time, but the outlook was grim. I was putting a lot of pressure on myself, and it became difficult to come up with anything that I didn’t despise.

Klutzy Bride

May 30th, 2008 @ 1:49 pm by Miss Cupcake

Hive, I have a confession to make: I am an incredibly klutzy person. It’s rare if a day goes by that I don’t trip on something, drop something, break something, or spill something on myself. Mr. Cupcake is constantly rolling his eyes and asking “are you okay?” or moving my water glass away from the edge of the table for fear that I’ll smack it and spill it all over the place. (It’s been known to happen…. More than once.) I am a Grade A, Certified Klutz.

Smash That

May 29th, 2008 @ 9:25 am by Miss Cupcake

Over this past holiday weekend, Mr. Cupcake and I met with his home pastor who will be performing our wedding ceremony. We went over the order of the ceremony, the basic logistics, and some options for the prayers and vows that we’ll be incorporating into our ceremony. Easy peasy.

However, towards the end of our meeting, the pastor (who is normally very laid back and light-hearted) suddenly got very serious, and I got a little nervous. He wanted to let us know that there is one big thing about many of the weddings he has presided over and attended that he disapproves of…. Mr. Cupcake and I sat quietly waiting for him to complete his thought….

He told us that the one thing that he absolutely hates about some weddings…. is the infamous smashing of the cake at the reception.

Wedding Blog Inspiration

May 28th, 2008 @ 9:25 am by Miss Cupcake

I’m sure it comes as no surprise that I read a lot of wedding blogs. A LOT. I’m sure a lot of you (since you’re reading this wedding blog and all) share the same sentiment and slight addiction to all of the great wedding blogs out there.

When I first got engaged, I didn’t really know that wedding blogs existed. Actually, I still thought that blogs were just personal journals that people kept online for the world to read, and, to be honest, I thought the whole idea was a little creepy. I had NO IDEA about all of the amazing blogs out there geared towards brides-to-be, moms-to-be, designers, computer lovers, pop culture addicts, etc. etc. etc. I had no idea that this amazing wealth of informative and inspiring blogs was hiding in the depths of the internet until my sister-in-law introduced me to Weddingbee several months into my engagement, which in turn led me to the, oh, about 7 kajillion other blogs that currently fill out my Google Reader.

Bet Your Bottom Dollar

May 27th, 2008 @ 9:30 am by Miss Cupcake

Every couple has their mini-fights and debates, there’s no doubt about that. Mr. Cupcake and I are no exception. We are both fairly competitive and we hate being proven wrong, so we’ve had our share of intense debates and disagreements over mundane things.

Some of our debates come down to pop culture trivia (I pride myself in retaining a lot of useless information about everything pop culture, so you best know what you’re getting yourself into before you challenge me); other debates are over items on our shared Google calendar (”you never told me you are going to the Flyers game tomorrow night…” “yes I did, I told you last week, and I put it on the Google calendar”). There have been too many debates to count.

Our favorite solution to solving our debates? We bet each other a dollar. It may sound silly, but it works. every. time. We’ll go back and forth disagreeing about something for a minute, each stating our case and neither one budging, until one of us whips out the dollar bet. It’s like the “I double dog dare ya” of our relationship, except there are no tongues frozen to poles as a result.
