I loved so many things about our wedding, but I think the thing that had (and still does) all of our guests talking were our White Castle burgers. And, if I felt like anointing myself with a title (à la Bethenny Frankel aka The Runaway Bride), I’d be the White Castle Bride, since that’s how a few readers approached me—in the deli, on the subway and even at a board meeting for a fellowship I had worked on. (I am sure the bees of today have FAR more recognition since the readership is pretty huge now!!) But this was my favorite part of our wedding, aside from the whole getting married part. And, hidden bonus? To this day, if I’m ever in the mood for a White Castle burger, I can rationalize eating one under the auspices of it being a sentimental and romantic meal…!
Oh, I’d forgotten how much I missed weddings/wedding planning until I logged back on here. Luckily, our fifth anniversary is on 11/11/11. If anything calls for a blowout renewal of vows party, that date sure does.

Two sushi bars; a raw bar with lobster, shrimp and crab claws; foie gras; multiple carving and pasta stations… and this is what everyone is still talking about:

Yes, in honor of my friend Lillers’ bridal shower, I volunteered to make cake (after I unvolunteered myself from the duty of flowers, to which I had originally been assigned. b/c I’m charming like that).
Anyway, since I had gone and gotten the cake assignment, I figured I better be bringing a cake that kicked the ass of any other cake. (And knowing that Mel–original cake-bringer–would have brought a pretty nice cake, I had to up the ante even more). So I decided to enter the world of rolled fondant. And what a wonderful world it is! I am now *obsessed* with it and cannot wait for more fondant experiments.
Check out my cake and then I’ll tell you what I used to make it:

Because everyotherBee is posting about her first dance, I realize I never a) posted my wedding “soundtrack” and b) reviewed my wedding musicians. (also, I *know* you all missed my wedding posting marginally terribly, so here we go).

I had a lot of creative ideas for what songs would accompany our walks down the aisle. Mr. Daisy had some suggestions…The Final Countdown by Europe or Another One Bites the Dust by Queen. But, alas, the Europe one was too evocative of Gob and Mr. D’s brother already called dibs on the Queen. And, oh yeah,THERE WAS NO FREAKING WAY I WAS DOING ANYTHING BUT SAPPY TRADITIONAL STUFF.

Yeah, this post isn’t going to be nearly as salacious as it seems. But Iris’ comments on my last post had me thinking about what moments you will and won’t let your photographer and/or videographer capture. When my mom and I were first looking for wedding photographers, we checked out about, oh, a million web sites. After my mom checked out a few she called me quite frantically telling me I absolutely *had to* check out a certain web site. So I did. And I saw butts! Naked bridal butts! For reals!

Well, in certain circles, anyway. That’s because my stellar makeup artist Laura Nadeau has put photos of me on her revamped web site! how cool is that?!? I’m the third photo in her “bridal” section:

OK, maybe not. But obviously if she *knew* me, she’d wish she rolled with my bridesmaid crew. Since she neither knows me nor covets the title of bridesmaid, it may just be coincidence, but check out her Met Costume Institute Gala duds (by Christian Dior):

Ok, so in the comments of Miss Kiwi’s “Gimme Gimme Money” post, Sarah wanted some info about giving cash (or a check) as a gift:
How much is expected? How much do you usually give? What is expected? Do you cover the cost of your plate or is that etiquette from the past?”
Paying Your Own Way?
The one that I can answer (or so I believe) is the “cover your plate” query. You don’t have to do that. I mean… That could get pretty pricey, especially if you had to attend a wedding like this one. And on a more realistic level, even a very high end NYC wedding could have you considering knocking over a convenience store. To keep it real, more than a couple of venues start at $250/per person, not including the 22% (!!) service fee (don’t confuse this spurious, rip-off fee with a gratuity-your vendor will expect that on top) and the 8% tax. I’m no mathematician, but that seems like a heck of a lot of money to give as a gift. And the same goes on the other end–if someone has a modest backyard wedding, you ought not reduce your gift accordingly. So, yeah, to summarize you should give what you give, cost-of-wedding notwithstanding.
All About the Benjamins (and Jacksons, and Lincolns, and Washingtons…)
Now onto the cold hard numbers-what do you give?
It know it’s trƒ¨s gauche to discuss dollars and cents, but I also know (because I sure have looked!) that there’s just a dearth of answers out there. Let’s overcome this problem, Bees, and complete a little poll to help me all of us get a handle on what the kids are shelling out these days. And, to be somewhat specific, let’s divvy this up by regions/types of areas to make it a bit more accurate. Feel free to elaborate in the comments!!
Find your geographic area and then click on what amount you give, per person (since a lot of us give joint gifts as a couple, just divide that number in half so we can get a per person idea of things).

Because I love my bridesmaids and maids of honor so very much, I decided to give them a few of my favorite things. Now, unfortunately for them, my favorite things were a lot less abundant more edited than, say, when Oprah does her “favorite things” episode but, let’s face it, I’m not Oprah. (quelle horreur!)

Yeah, so I am slow on the vendor wrap-ups– blame it on laziness, a gut renovation of our apartment, my hellish knee surgery, no matter, I’m still slower than i ought to be…
But here are my thoughts on my florist, DeJuan Stroud: A+++

Yesterday, while Mr. Daisy was at work, the following envelope arrived.
It contained an invitation to the wedding of a friend-of-a-friend. I do wonder who he will bring as his guest, since they left the option open for him… fingers crossed!

Though I’m (clearly) no Willy Wonka, I decided to make Mr. Daisy some chocolate-covered pretzels to celebrate the auspicious occasion of our first married Valentine’s Day. Using a mold I bought at Michael’s and neither experience nor skill, I produced six pretzel rods for his consumption. I mean, the fella sent me a giant, gorgeous bouquet and is squiring me to dinner. Colored pretzels are the least I can do…! (and I do love the guy, after all.)

I guess it’s pretty much a given that, in addition to the gift of a spouse, a wedding also gets you gifts of the more material kind. The ones from Mr. Daisy and my immediate family were more than I ever expected and just blew me away. My favorite wedding gift was from Mr. Daisy– my wedding band.
