Today is the day! I can’t believe it’s finally my turn to marry my best friend and the one true love of my life.
At the rehearsal yesterday, I felt so blessed to be surrounded by people who love Mr. Deviled Egg and me. Knowing that they came from near and far (one of my bridesmaids came in all the way from Germany!) gave me an overwhelming feeling of love and support. I can only imagine the emotions I am about to experience today.
So far, I’m surprised at how calm I’ve been. Despite all of the last minute to-dos, I really don’t feel stressed at all. A few people commented on how I didn’t seem nervous at all. I guess, overall, I’m not. I couldn’t be more sure of my decision to marry Mr. DE. I do believe he is the one for me and we have what it takes to make a happily ever after fairytale part of our reality. I’m so excited!
Today is a day of many changes for me. I get a new name, a new family, and a new life to share completely with a husband. Mr. DE will have some changes, too. He will be more than just a husband to me; he will become a son to my parents, a brother to my siblings, and an uncle to my nieces and nephews. Read more…

This is it! I will be getting married this weekend! **Happy dance!**
With the wedding within days, there is only one thing I know I have absolutely no control over — the weather. Of course, weather.com’s 10-day forecast will be my most-viewed site all week. (Well, after Weddingbee, of course!)
I started checking it last Friday and so far, the wedding day weather prediction has changed so many times. When I first looked, there was a 30% chance of showers. The next day it said 74 degrees and sunny. I checked it last night, and showers were back in the mix. The 30% chance and few showers were still in the forecast this morning, but when I just checked it a minute ago, it said 78 degrees and cloudy.

I rarely treat myself to a salon pedicure. I love the result, the pampering, and the massage, but it’s tough plunking down $50 to pay for the service. Doing them myself isn’t so bad, but they never quite have that perfectly polished look a professional can provide.
Last summer, one of my sisters had a really nice pedicure and, when I complimented her on it, she let me in on her secret—they were artificial. I always thought about trying the inexpensive glue-on toe nail kits at the drug store, but forgot about it when summer was over and I put away my flip flops.
For my bridal shower, I desperately wanted the look of a salon pedicure, but, with feeling the effects of being wedding poor so close to the big day, I just couldn’t spare the cash. In came the artificial toe nails. I bought a package for $5 at CVS/Pharmacy and went to town. Here’s how they turned out:
Goodness, my feet are huge! I took this photo a week after application.

Something old? I don’t have anything right now. New? I guess everything––the dress, shoes, jewelry, etc. Something borrowed? I have no clue what I’ll be using. Blue? Again… nada.
But, I am very lucky to have something homemade by my mom. For the last few weeks she’s been making this:

Holy guacamole! Mr. Deviled Egg are officially licensed to wed! Last Wednesday, we stopped at the City-County Building in downtown Pittsburgh to file the paperwork and made it official.
In the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, you can apply for a marriage license in any county, regardless of which county the wedding will be held. We chose to apply in Allegheny County because they have the only office in the area with evening hours. Every Wednesday, the Marriage License Bureau is open until 7:30 pm, which is perfect for Mr. DE and I since we both work downtown. Read more…

One of my goals post-wedding is to not purchase a greeting card for one full year, but to make them all instead. I like to think that card recipients feel a little extra special with they get a homemade card for their special occasion. I make my Christmas cards every year and randomly make birthday cards for friends and family members. With all of the wedding crafting I’ve been doing lately, I haven’t had much of a chance to make birthday cards. I did somehow manage to squeeze in some paper crafting time and put together thank you cards for my bridal shower (which I plan on writing a post about very soon!). Here is what I came up with:

While I haven’t really shared it with the hive yet, my wedding gown is from a Filene’s sale that took place in Washington, DC, in August of 2008. To keep my gown a secret from Mr. Deviled Egg, an occasional Weddingbee reader, I’m going to wait until after the wedding to share my experience with the sale.
Overall though, my experience was so much fun. Getting a dress that day at an amazing price was icing on the cake. I really enjoyed the experience I shared with my mom, sister and Mr. DE’s sister. The “Running” will probably go down as my most memorable activity during my wedding planning process.
With so many brides sharing a similar experience with Filene’s, it’s kind of sad that this opportunity may be coming to an end. The sale is such a tradition! Read more…

A little over a month ago, Mr. Deviled Egg and I had our engagement photo session with our photographer, Ticia Mangino of Ticia Mangino Photography. We decided to take our photos in Pittsburgh, because that’s where we met. We also thought it would be nice to have the photos taken there, since the wedding photos will be taken in New Castle, PA.
We wanted to use the Pittsburgh skyline as a backdrop, so Station Square seemed like a great location because of its views of the city and its interesting layout of old train cars and newer brick exteriors.
About two weeks after our session, Ticia posted about 50 images from our session on her website for us to view, and we had a very difficult time narrowing down favorites for our guest book (included in our photography package) and to frame for display at our reception. There were so many that we loved!
Here are some of my favorites from the session. (All photos are courtesy or Ticia Mangino Photography)

Our ceremony room has two sets of double doors at the entrance. These doors are huge, heavy, dark wood doors that need a little femininity to make them a little more wedding-friendly.
Remember my unity candle floral arrangement? Well, I took the flowers I had left over from that project, along with some other flowers I bought last summer when the spring flowers were all on clearance at Jo-Ann’s and Michaels, and attached them with a glue gun to a grapevine wreath. Here is the final result:
(Please excuse the little pieces of flower stems and wreath all over my floor. This project got a little messy and I’m a carpet crafter. I vacuumed when I was finished with everything, promise!) Read more…

We put off our honeymoon travel decision until just about a week ago. We weren’t really sure where we wanted to go or what we wanted to do, but we did have a few factors that impacted our decision:
We aren’t beach people. Yes, we like the beach, but spending a week there isn’t really us. I guess we are more of an active couple, as opposed to the types who would lounge around on a beach chair and listen to the waves crash. I think I can handle the beach for maybe two days, and then I’m over it. Also, we are both very prone to sunburn. Mr. DE is poster child for proper sun protection, and I’m usually pretty good about using sunblock daily, at least on my face. I’m one of those people who burns if I stay out in the sun for a few hours, even when I’m wearing SPF 50. Deviled Eggs on the beach for a few days + direct sunlight = overcooked eggs!
All-inclusive doesn’t really appeal to us. I know there are great deals to be had at all-inclusive honeymoon resorts throughout the Caribbean right now, but Mr. DE and I aren’t big drinkers. (And by not big drinkers, I mean I can count on one hand the number of times we’ve ordered drinks when we’ve been out and I’d still have a finger or two left over.) Combined with point #1 about not being super keen on spending a week at a beach, we just don’t think an all-inclusive beach resort is a wise way to spend our honeymoon. In a way, we’d feel like we were paying for others to drink.
We wanted to go someplace we’ve never been before. We kicked around spending a week in Las Vegas, but Mr. DE went there for his 21st birthday. Together, we’ve been to Ocean City/Bethany Beach area and Chicago. We also considered heading out west to some luxury cabin resort, but we’ve both spent some time in Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, etc., earlier in our lives.
We were looking for a bargain. I’m not ashamed to admit it—we didn’t want to spend a lot of money on our trip.
So, considering these factors, we set out to plan a trip. Read more…

Two of my nephews, Trevor and Gavin, will play very important roles on our wedding day. As part of the bridal party, they will be outfitted in tuxedos that will be mini versions of Mr. Deviled Egg’s, right down to matching vests and ties. Last weekend, my sister and I took the boys to get measured for their tuxes.

With my shower coming up this weekend, I wanted to get something new to wear so can I feel a little extra special at the event. Like Miss Powder Puff, I was looking for a dress that looked good on me and has the potential to be worn again.
Over the last few days, I stopped at one or two clothing stores each day after work and checked out their dress selection. I was coming up empty handed and growing frustrated that I couldn’t find what I wanted. Yesterday, I stopped at the Ross Park Mall and figured I could take one last spin around to see what I could find.
My first stop was at the JC Penney and (woohoo!) it was also my last! Here is the dress I purchased:

I guess it’s true when people say that the only person who cares about your wedding more than you is, well, no one. In the grand scheme of things, your wedding is just one day to the people you’ve invited. Those guests will never fully understand the amount of time and effort you’ve put into that one day. In a matter of hours, the day is over and it’s a memory.
Outside of your guests, there are maybe a couple hundred people—acquaintances, long lost friends, former co-workers and neighbors—who will congratulate you when they hear the news, but in reality, your wedding day means little to them other than the fact that you now have a husband and new last name. And for the umpteen billion other people in the world who you don’t even know and will never ever meet? Yeah, they are too busy living their lives, working, taking care of their children, studying, shopping, paying bills, sleeping, relaxing, cooking, spending time with their friends, checking on their eBay auctions, exercising, driving, taking showers, talking on the phone, and thinking about the hundreds of things going on with them at any particular moment in time. Your wedding means nothing to them.
That’s right. While planning the wedding of our dreams is a huge time suck for all of us brides-to-be right now, the rest of the world is dealing with their own everyday things, all important to them and all more important than any wedding we’re planning.
And of course all of these “your wedding” and “you” references are really a finger pointed at me. In fact, it’s one of those really big, “We’re #1″ foam hand fingers. Read more…

I’ll admit it. I’m a sucker for my guy in a suit or a tuxedo. I definitely enjoyed the eye candy on days when Mr. Deviled Egg wore a suit for work or when his groomsman duties put him in a tux in the two weddings he was in most recently.

I’m pretty sure it won’t matter too much what style tuxedo Mr. DE ends up wearing on our wedding day—I’m sure I’ll think he looks good no matter what. But, we still needed to make a decision on his attire.
This weekend, Mr. DE and I visited a tuxedo rental shop to explore his options and figure out some things. Read more…
