Today’s guest DIY post comes from Jennifer of With This Ring. Jennifer shows us how to create perfect calligraphy… even if you’re a novice!

I always knew I wanted the classy elegance of handwritten calligraphy on our wedding invitations. Unfortunately, $2.00 per envelope for our 100 invitations didn’t exactly fit the bill. I’ve spent many hours drooling over the designs of calligraphers such as Laura Hooper and Heather Victoria Held (if only I had half of her talent, just half!), wishing I could afford their exquisite services.
I’ve always been artistic by nature, and my handwriting is probably better than average, but it is certainly not calligraphy-caliber. Nonetheless, I couldn’t bear to settle for computer-printed envelopes or even worse, sticker address labels (gasp!). So, I decided to give it a shot on my own! Here’s a little sample of how my first few envelopes turned out…

Not too bad, huh? Well, I have a little confession to make.
I totally cheated!!
Today’s DIY rewind comes from Mrs. Raspberry. She designed the stationery for her wedding, and the results were incredible! This DIY project was originally posted on May 31, 2007.

They are FINALLY all out and we have started to receive some of the RSVP/menu cards, so I think it is safe to share a few pictures with you.

Since making invitations is what I do for a living, I thought it most appropriate to make ours.
And after many renditions, I am so happy with the final result. So without any further ado…

Today’s DIY rewind comes from Mrs. Emerald. Mrs. Emerald wanted to include bows on all of her invitations, but found that tying hundreds of bows was difficult, and often times messy. She solved this problem by coming up with a cleaner looking bow, and shows us all how to achieve the look! This DIY project was originally posted on March 29, 2007.

Did I mention that my invites came in over a week ago from the printers?! And they look amazing, I’m so excited! But I’ve been racking my brain trying to figure out the best way to enclose them. I’ve been playing around with (and hence, wasting) vellum, and I think I’ve finalized my design. Yahoo!

Today’s DIY rewind comes to us from Mrs. Cherry Blossom before she officially became a bee! The CBs created elaborate and creative cards to ask her closest friends to be part of their wedding party. They were a huge hit! This DIY project was originally posted on March 27, 2007.

I finally kicked myself in the arse (yes that is possible) and finished the gifts that I had for my gals to ask them to be my bridesmaids. They knew I was going to ask them but had been lagging on something… so I did a drive-by last Thursday and visited each of them individually to ask them in person since we know getting us all together is a major feat.

Today’s DIY rewind comes to us from Mrs. Plum. Mrs. Plum shows us how to make cufflinks at home! If you can’t find cufflinks to suit your groom’s taste, this would be a great and thoughtful gift for your groom-to-be! Consider using coins from his family’s country of origin, or other objects that represent one of his hobbies. This DIY project was originally posted on December 22, 2006.

It sounds crazy/complicated, but when I saw this tutorial, I was like, “WOW! That’s so easy!” I don’t know if I’ll actually do this, but I thought it’d be interesting to share.
1. Find some old coins, buttons, or whatever you want to use!

Today’s DIY Rewind comes from Mrs. Peach. Mrs. Peach couldn’t swallow the steep price of the sports garters she found online, so she made her own University of Michigan garter! This DIY project was originally posted on November 28, 2006.
~~~
Miss. Hibiscus’ entry about sports garters made me think about mine. While we probably won’t have a garter toss, a sports garter seems like a nice surprise for Mr. Peach after the wedding is over. I went to the website and found the Michigan one:
Today’s DIY rewind comes from Mrs. Licorice. Mrs. Licorice decided to take the plunge and buy a copy of Photoshop Elements so she could design her own Save the Dates. They turned out awesome! Not bad for a first timer, eh? Perhaps it will inspire you to invest in a design program as well! This DIY project was originally posted on July 30, 2007.
As a scrapbooker, I was excited to papercraft my own wedding stationery. I’m the traditional sort who loves patterned papers and glue. When looking for inspiration images to begin my own little Save the Date project, I had a change of heart. I began to love the look of computer generated designs. Hmmm….Perhaps it’s time to get… digital?
Today our DIY rewind comes from Mrs. Lemon. Mrs. Lemon took her handmade invitations to the next level by embroidering her fabric-covered invitations (at home!), and printing the inserts with her Gocco printer. I still don’t believe that these fit in an A9 size envelope, yet she swears they did! This DIY project was originally posted on May 14, 2007.’
I got confirmation this weekend that everyone on the east coast has received their packages in the mail…so without further ado, I get to share my GIGANTIC wedding project with you…MY INVITATIONS! ![]()
Mrs. Penguin here! I had the pleasure of visiting Mrs. Plumeria a little while back, and she showed me these letters she sent out to her bridesmaids. What made these letters so special is that they included “paper doll dress cutouts”. Each of her bridesmaids could custom design her own dress, from the top to bottom. Length, style, sash/no sash - you name it! Mrs. Plumeria picked out the color and her bridesmaids were able to design their dress at home. Here, she shows us how she put her newsletter together. This DIY project was originally posted on January 3, 2007.
I’ve had my bridesmaids’ newsletter in the works for a long while now, but things have been so busy I just never completed it. Family conversations which ensued over the holidays did help to motivate me, as they sparked a sudden realization that the wedding is really only a little over four months away. I’m not sure how that fact evaded me all this time, but once I became fully aware of it, I’ve really been pushing forward with wedding plans… you can definitely expect to hear more from me as I do so!
Anyway, without further ado: my newsletter!
Today our DIY rewind comes from Mrs. Violet. The Violets gave their guests these cute handmade, re-purposed Altoid tins as favors. They filled the tins with their favorite candies to make a useful and edible gift! These would make not only great favors, but stocking stuffers as well! This DIY project was originally posted on August 13, 2007.
I knew that we had to have favors, but what? I’ve been thinking about favors since we were engaged, that’s almost 1.5 years ago! Some contenders included chocolate truffles tucked in a box and tied with a ribbon, a sachet filled with lavender to remind us of Paris where we were engaged and miniature tins of tea. Finally, I had an epiphany. I’ll use my crafty skills and to make some altered Altoid tins instead.
Today’s DIY rewind comes from Mrs. Eggplant. Mrs. Eggplant kept her bridesmaids well-informed by sending out periodical newsletters to her bridesmaids. Here she shows us all the information she included and how she made one of the most comprehensive bridesmaid newsletters ever! This DIY project was originally posted on June 1, 2007.
~~~
After many laborious hours, I finally completed the second edition of my bridesmaid’s newsletters (or news magazine in this case). Using Adobe Photoshop and InDesign, I created a spoof on gossip mags like US Weekly, complete with headliners like “pretty in pink!” and “what’s going in groomsville?” It was my first time using Adobe InDesign, so please bear the unprofessional layout.
Now before I get pinned with the “bridezilla” nametag, I have a justification in my defense!
I created this newsletter because I wanted to get a feel for Adobe InDesign before Mr. Eggplant and I embarked on our DIY wedding program and invitation adventure. A newsletter was the perfect starting point. That said, I love InDesign! It’s functional, easy to learn for basic use, and it makes organizing a simple newsletter such a breeze.

The cover fronted a picture we took after a pedicure session that the girls surprised me with.

Today our DIY rewind comes from Mrs. Daisy. Spring weddings are right around the corner and that means it’s bridal shower season! Mrs. Daisy shows us step-by-step how to make a shower cake using fondant. If you ask me, it looks just like a professional cake! This DIY project was originally posted on December 12, 2007.
~~~
Yes, in honor of my friend Lillers’ bridal shower, I volunteered to make cake (after I unvolunteered myself from the duty of flowers, to which I had originally been assigned. b/c I’m charming like that).
Anyway, since I had gone and gotten the cake assignment, I figured I better be bringing a cake that kicked the ass of any other cake.
Today our DIY rewind comes from Mrs. Corn. Just in time for the holidays, Mrs. Corn shows us how she created her coastal ornament favors for her wedding! This DIY project was originally posted on June 4th, 2007.
When I first started thinking about favors, I knew I wanted to give something that would last rather than be eaten up in an instant like candy. I also didn’t want to give out something that would just take up room in people’s junk drawers until it was unceremoniously thrown out in a few months, years or decades.
