Just buzzing by to try out the randomizer series! When I look at our photos I’m struck by how much has changed, and how much has stayed the same. For starters, I’ve been rocking blonde hair for over a year now…it’s strange to see myself as a redhead! We’re still lucky to be surrounded by our wonderful friends and family, even if we’re further down I-95 and living in Capitol Hill instead of Baltimore now.
I don’t know if I ever mentioned just HOW many photos there are of Mr.D and I making out kissing. So many, that when my dad wanted to look at the photos in a slideshow I almost died of embarrassment. Word to the wise, save the kissing for your post-reception festivities. So it’s inappropriate that the first photo is…kissing.
In all fairness-our photographer told us to kiss for this shot…

of 2011! Ha, have I taught you nothing? This is a process that never ends, it goes on and on my friends…
We’re about to remove the conditions on Mr. D’s provisional green card/permanent resident card. That’s right, we’re in a provisional marriage. Our learner’s permit of matrimony, if you will. Basically, to ensure that you’re not in a sham marriage (and I assume, to collect further revenue) after you receive the K-1 (fiance visa), then after you are married and complete the adjustment of status you receive a provisional green card—valid for 2 years from receiving the card. In our case this is January 2010, so when the government refers to anniversaries… they mean when you received your card—not your wedding anniversary.
You can apply for your 10 year card as soon as 90 days before your expiry date. For the past year or so, I’ve been having flashbacks to our engagement year. Moments such as, “oh, we should save a holiday card to send to the government,” or “don’t forget a picture of the two of us, we need evidence!” If you don’t submit the forms, evidence of your relationship and $590… you get deported. So obviously this needs to be completed.
It’s a stressful situation for so many reasons, but it’s also a strange position to find yourself in: trying to view your relationship as an outsider, making sure you look like a real couple, proving to someone you’ll never meet that you are a couple in a real marriage. Read more…

Surprise! You thought I was gone, finished, finto after my recaps! Perhaps one day I’ll be writing a signing off post, but today is not that day my friends. As the spouse of an immigrant it’s going to be a very long time until I get to stop writing about marriage and immigration—but this post is not about that yucky business—it’s about photos!

Mr. D and I nervously stepped up to do our first dance to Stevie Ray Vaughn’s Pride and Joy. We also heard this song on our first date, but I’m pretty sure it’s not about prostitutes or whore houses. I think we asked it to be shortened to 45 seconds—Mr.D is not so big on the “everyone staring” thing that happens when you’re the only people dancing in a crowded room.

After everyone hit the buffet, we settled in for the toasts. In England, the best man’s speech is longer than in the US and more akin to a stand up comedy routine/roast for the groom. Mr. D’s brother is not that wild about public speaking, so he opted for the US tradition.
It was sweet, funny and brought a smile and a tear to everyone’s face. Read more…

Uh… hey…it’s me, your favorite split shank purple shoe…
Just so I don’t give you a case of recap blue balls (again) I’ve actually finished writing them and am publishing them one at a time. Being a Weddingbee blogger has meant so much to me and I apologize for taking so long. In case anyone who was here in 2009 is still around, thanks for keeping me company! If you’re new to the hive—welcome! I’m a semi-old timey bee who is about to celebrate her two year anniversary!
Before I move ahead with the reception, I just wanted to take a moment to highlight how several projects turned out. Some I didn’t even blog about (for shame!).
Those pomanders? That everyone helped so much with? Looooooooved them and for me, they were so worth it! (Big ups to Mr.D, my cousins Megan and Rachel, my sister Regan, my best friends and MOH’s MB and Beth, and Candy Corn). It takes a big village to make 10 pomanders. They’ve since visited Mrs. Cowboy Boot in Colorado, my cousin Megan, and now one of Megan’s friends!

Mr. D and I have been enjoying our temporary break from USCIS paperwork over the past 12 months (with the exception of filling out a painless change of address form). However, since I am an obsessive planner type, I sometimes like to check in and see how everything fits together. So to date, we’ve already spent about $2,000 on immigration (USCIS fees, plus all the traveling to London and extra costs for the fiancé visa medical, etc.) and we’ll have to set aside another $1270 for the next 2 years.
We spent $590 in October for the restrictions on Mr. D’s conditional permanent resident card to be lifted (after you marry you are granted a two-year card, but you have to apply 90 days prior to its expiration). Then we will spend $680 for Mr. D to apply to be a citizen in January 2013.

My most commented post is this one. What does that say about Weddingbee readers!
But my favorite post is this one below. I remain so thankful for everyone involved in our wedding—our families, our friends and my bee friends! Both our wedding and our lives have been changed by the friendships in this post. I look back at this post with nothing but love.

It may take a village to raise a child, but I’m pretty sure it took a village to make our wedding happen. The assistance and donations of dear friends warms my heart to this day.
The Gift of Joy: Mrs. Tulip kindly sent me a package of hankies from her wedding, along with a very sweet card. I used these as she did, displaying them at the ceremony for people to take. There were so many I was able to select the blue/purple ones to fit the color scheme. I’ll include the final product in my details post.
The Gift of Beauty: Remember my hair-tastrophy? My generous friend Holly (and her husband Mike) picked up a gift card to a great salon as a wedding gift, which took me from Superhero to Saucy. Read more…

I’m visiting Mrs. Penguin in Berkeley this weekend, and she told me if I didn’t write more recaps, she wouldn’t hang out with me!** (See: Ed. Note)
While our primping was going on, Mr. D was upstairs worried I’d be upset with him when he realized he had forgotten to write down his vows. He had them in his iPhone, and on our large printed copy for guests to sign, so he copied them onto a piece of paper. Thank goodness he remembered—I forgot to a bring a copy as well!
In retrospect, we almost wish he had left them on the phone, because it would have been pretty cool to read the vows on the iPhone (at least, for us nerds).
After Mr. D remembered all the important things I had forgotten about he went out with his men to have their photos taken. Here are a few of my favorites: Read more…
