Best of the ‘Bee - Relationship Day

December 15th, 2010 @ 6:41 pm by Mrs. Espresso

I was going to choose one of my recaps as my favorite post but when I couldn’t decide between a couple, I decided to dig further in my post history—and that’s when I re-stumbled upon Relationship Day. I love our Relationship Day story—and since it’s almost the anniversary of that special and life changing day, I’d like to share it with the new members of the hive as well. Enjoy :)

~~~
Relationship Day is what we call the day Mr. Espresso proposed.
December 21, 2007:
After a long day of shuffling through crowds to finish our Christmas shopping, a spur of the moment date night was just what I needed. Thank goodness I had enough time for a hot shower to relax my tired, worn muscles… too many bags and a purse full of lists had taken a toll on my shoulders. Out of the shower and into some charcoal gray slacks and a slimming black sweater: my go to outfit when I need to look nice on the run. Make- up and a partial blow dry. I’m done.
“Baby it’s cold outside.”
So glad I picked up that cashmere scarf at the thrift store last week. Three dollars was such a steal! And the color- periwinkle blue- makes me love it even more. I add a black wool coat to the scarf and I’m ready to go.
The drive to Newport passed by in slow motion.
About Mrs. Espresso
This is the final post of our Canadian Honeymoon Road Trip through Vancouver Island. After we left Tofino, we headed about a half hour down the road to the small town of Ucluelet. I followed Trip Advisor’s recommendations and booked us 2 nights at the Terrace Beach Resort.
Jason Priestly (from the original 90210) and his family own this place; and it’s so wonderfully down to earth and beautiful all at the same time.
On our second day in Tofino, Mr. Espresso and I explored around the island. It was our first day with no rain and the air just smelled so clean. So we jumped in our white Pontiac rental and started driving down random roads to see where they would lead us. Here is one such road. :)
Hello hive! I’m back again because, as Mrs. French Bulldog so sweetly reminded me, I didn’t do my honeymoon recaps! So for all of you considering Canada, a road trip, the mountains, or the beach as a honeymoon destination, I’m here to help. :)
Mr. Espresso and I did a road trip honeymoon through Vancouver Island in Canada. It was the perfect destination for a surfer like him and a mountain girl like me. We hit up Brentwood Bay, Tofino, Ucluelet, and Victoria. But before I get started, press play below for some background music—because what’s a road trip without music, right?
Weekend Mountain Wedding: This is Goodbye
February 15th, 2010 @ 6:06 pm by Mrs. Espresso
Wow… I can’t believe that this is my last post for Weddingbee. I’ve been writing here since June 2008 but I can tell you it’s gone by fast… it zoomed by, actually.
Hive, I’ve been incredibly blessed by your company, by your words of advice and comfort, and by your comments. You definitely know how to make a girl feel like she’s a part of something special. You’ve encouraged me through tough times. You’ve been there and congratulated me on one of the absolute best days of my life. And then you listened to me write about it sporadically for the last year and a half. :) Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I’ll still pop in from time to time, but for the most part I’ll now be focusing solely on our next Grand Adventure. I know some of you said you wanted to follow along with us—so go ahead and feel free to visit me often over at my personal blog: Silver Pencils. I’d love to see some familiar faces. :)
So, let’s get to it. My last Weekend Mountain Wedding Recap: The Grand Exit
About Mrs. Espresso
Truth be told, we were having so much fun dancing and talking with all of our guests that we forgot about the cake. That is, until we saw this little guy already digging into one of the red velvet cupcakes.
Weekend Mountain Wedding: Red Velvet and Taffeta :  wedding pictures pro pics recap 15 1
So we scurried our fancy butts on over to the dessert table and started to cut the cake. We never planned on having a cake. We were content with the cupcakes, caramel apples, and cheesecake and just figured we’d feed each other half a cupcake. But on the morning of our wedding, our cupcake caterer surprised us with a mini cake for us to cut. Loved our vendors!
About Mrs. Espresso
We went back and forth on whether or not to have a Money Dance. We had taken out the garter and bouquet tosses, the mother/ son and father/ daughter dances… so why should we have a money dance? And would our relatives just look at us as just asking for money? And what if no one stood in line to dance with us? The questions went on forever.
After talking with Mama Espresso about it a few times, she told us to go for it. We’re young. We’re broke. And it would give our guests all a chance to dance with us.
So the money dance was in. And we had SO MUCH FUN!
About Mrs. Espresso
This is an emotional post for me. I’ve dreaded writing it because every time I think about it, I start crying… I’m crying now. But it’s important for me to write because it was one of the most memorable moments from our wedding… an unplanned moment, even. And I really do want to share it with you.
My Papa (grandpa) was my hero. He was one of those guys that you instantly liked and respected. He had a no nonsense, selfless, and fun loving way about him that just drew people in. About 4 years ago, he was diagnosed with multiple types of cancer. By the time my wedding came around he had already had 2 brain surgeries and lost his ear to the cancer- but he was in a sort of remission. Because of his pride and goal to get better, he had refused to see anyone but our immediate family since getting sick. But he willingly pushed it aside for our wedding. And a few songs into the dance floor opening up, “American Girl” by Tom Petty came on and my Papa grabbed my hands and pulled me into the center of the dance floor.
Weekend Mountain Wedding: And We Danced :  wedding pictures pro pics recap 1 1
Hey there hive! Sorry I’ve been absent for so long. Geez, I must look like such a slacker! To tell you the truth, life has been crazy over here. Mr. Espresso and I have been have been making a lot of radical changes in our lives in order to pursue our dreams. Both of us were getting a little tired of sitting in 2 hours of traffic every night coming home from jobs we didn’t like, only to make dinner, clean up, and barely have any time together before starting it all over again.
I LOVED planning our wedding. Sure, there were moments when I’d start crying out of nowhere… or when under eye circles became the norm for a while :). But for the most part, I really did love it. And that was because the details, the food, the location, everything- represented our ideal wedding- and not someone else’s.
This detail especially embodies how we felt on that day.
They come few and far between. Those moments when your family and friends are healthy… happy. When you can see everything in life for the blessing that it is, rather than the job, errand, or line on the To Do list that’s calling. When life is, in its purest form, good.
This was one of those moments.
About Mrs. Espresso
When Sandie and Ryel arrived that morning, I asked them if they wouldn’t mind caravaning down to the lake for our wedding party portraits. I wanted a different setting than the family ones. They both were as eager about the idea as I was. So, while the guests were enjoying the cocktail hour, we all jumped in a few different cars and drove down to Big Bear Lake.
Because I knew I’d also be STARVING at this point, I had asked our caterer to package up some of the appetizers for all of us to eat. Here is Mr. Espresso and me snacking on some chicken skewers on the drive down.
Family photos… we love them. I grew up with 2 parents who were passionate about photography, and who in turn, passed their love onto me. Mr. Espresso has since become enthralled as well—and so we knew we wanted tons of photos on our wedding day… especially with our new families.
Here we are with Mr. Espresso’s family. All family portraits were taken in front of the bed & breakfast.
