Worthwhile

July 6th, 2009 @ 6:02 pm by Mrs. Green Tea

Worthwhile : wedding diy Reader I’ve spent endless hours writing DIY posts that include everything from detailed instructions to downloadable templates (I know I’m slacking as of late, y’all, but I’ve got a good excuse!). Honestly though, even with plenty of your kind and wonderful feedback on my quirky creations, I often wonder if they are ever put to use.

About Mrs. Green Tea

I’ve had this centerpiece idea in mind for a while, but I couldn’t get MOH-Ho to picture it right to save my life! Last night we finally got together and did a small version mock-up (the real one will have 5 vases instead of 3). We spent some quality time bringing my vision to life:

MOH-Ho's Centerpiece Mini Mockup : wedding decor diy reception tutorial Centerp

The purple circles invites I made for MOH-Ho’s wedding was my original inspiration for these. Though they did not turn out to have much resemblance, I think they still fit together quite nicely. My expectations for these were similar to that for my own centerpieces - affordable, not wasteful, easy to set up, unique, incorporates florals… plus, the added top criteria of making MOH-Ho happy. I think I got checks on each of these. :)

Here’s how it was done:

About Mrs. Green Tea

EDIT: Apologies to those who were asking about this post, I had to take it offline for awhile and completely redo the photos. I know it took me a long time and the photos aren’t as good as before, but everything is harder to do sinceI’m far from home, sorry about that.

Here are the invites I designed for MOH-Ho’s wedding. I worked really hard on making these efficient (the set is printed on a single sheet of 8.5×11 cardstock). While I thoroughly enjoy receiving a pretty invite, I also feel terrible when I throw out fancy sets that include so much material. So I was thrilled that MOH-Ho and her parents appreciated the compactness as I did!

‘Ello

May 1st, 2009 @ 3:35 pm by Mrs. Green Tea

'Ello : wedding diy Office01 When I had the luxury of blogging regularly, I thought it was silly for authors to apologize for their absence when they go missing for awhile. I think I understand how they feel now.I’m going through a big transition at work, which is also impacting my personal life in a huge way (moving away alone). I meant to blog from the hotel, but I’ve just been too drained.

I have quite a few DIY projects half-started back home. It’s hard to work on them when all my tools are 2 hours away. I’ve been working on getting that invitation template up, since I keep getting requests for it. I want to make it easy to use, and my dear brother is helping me develop a method. I don’t know if we can get it to work, but we’re trying.

The Tea Party: Da Get Down

April 22nd, 2009 @ 3:58 pm by Mrs. Green Tea

1. Prelude, 2. Tea Ceremony, 3. Getting Ready, 4. The Kids, 5. Wedding Party, 6. Down the Aisle 7. Ceremony, 8. Group Shots, 9. Couple Shots, 10. Jump Shots 11. House Shots, 12. Cocktails and Dinner, 13. First Dance, 14. Parents’ Dance, 15. Toasts, 16. Cake, 17. Lion Dance, 18. Sweet Fountain

A lot of thought was put into the dancing portion. I know that while I put effort to get on the dance floor at weddings, I don’t often stay out for long. But when I do, watch-out y’all, we got a hot one in here!

From the DJ, to the music, to the set up to the timing of events, we considered as much as we could and made decisions based on what would keep guests around and dancing through the night. Well, our hard work paid off, because every single guest was on the dance floor at some point and most of them boogied ’til the end!

Here’s us showing ’em how itz done:

Mr. GT thinks it’s funny that Chinese people eat fruit as dessert, but there’d be noooo funny business if I ever left my family hanging at the end of a meal without it. Since fruit was a must have anyway, we upgraded to a chocolate fountain. 8 dipping items included 5 different fruits, plus pretzels, marshmallows, and Rice Krispies treats. Nommm.

DIY Mini ‘Laundry’ Calendar

April 10th, 2009 @ 4:20 pm by Mrs. Green Tea

I love useful/thoughtful favors as much as I despise little pieces of crap that end up in the landfill right after a wedding. This idea spawned from my panic after hearing about yet another bad one in the works.

You can Download This Calendar for April 2009 through December 2010. I made a sample favor here by adding the circle design from MOH-Ho’s invites on her wedding date.

The Tea Party: Pole Dancing

April 7th, 2009 @ 4:46 pm by Mrs. Green Tea

One of the few things I knew I wanted for our wedding was a Chinese Lion Dance. When done right, the loud and festive performances always light up faces in a crowd.

When I first introduced Mr. GT to it by way of a sad little YouTube video, he couldn’t have been less impressed. As much as I tried to explain, it is just one of those things you don’t truly understand until you experience it in person. Fortunately, our friends got married earlier in the year and Mr. GT was able to witness the awesomeness live from our front and centered seats (thx R&E!). After that, he couldn’t imagine our wedding without one!

DIY Fortune Cookie Tea Sachet

March 16th, 2009 @ 10:31 am by Mrs. Green Tea

Even though I planned ahead to reuse / recycle as much wedding stuff as I could, inevitably there were leftovers. So here I am, with a friggin’ couple lifetime supplies of various teas in my pantry (mostly from the tea buffet, which I knew I had purchased too much tea for. But I needed variety!), so I figure that I better get creative.

I love the scent of tea; it’s pleasant and subtle. I decided to make a little tea sachet for my dear friend to include in the package returning my borrowed veil. She was unfortunately not able to attend the main event, even though she was the most involved female in my planning. I really wanted to thank her with a piece of the wedding.

I have nearly no sewing skillz*, so this project had to be simple and forgiving. I decided to make a little fortune cookie-shaped sachet:

Even though we planned and hosted a wedding undeniably our own, with our personal stamp of quirkiness everywhere, the event was never for us. This wedding would have never happened if not for two very special reasons, and it is truly for them that we celebrated the way we did.

Here I am with the radiant reason number one, my new Mama:
