Our reception had finally come to an end. After hours of smiling, happy tears, dancing, eating, and love—it was time for one last dance and a grand, sparkly exit.

One of my favorite things to remember in the weeks leading up to our wedding came from our very own Mrs. Yorkie: “Don’t let the details become bigger than the purpose.” I even wrote it on a Post-It and stuck it above my work desk!
Nevertheless, there were lots of pretty details to our wedding, some of which you may have seen before but here they all are in one post to do them justice.

If you remember in my last post, even Mr. Guinea Pig’s grandfather was dancing from his chair! And as the evening got later, the dance floor stayed packed. Having said hello to everyone at this point, Mr. Guinea Pig and I had also jumped onto the dance floor, only stopping so I could throw some flowers.

Since guests were already burning off energy by dancing, it was high time to refuel with some delicious cake.
Our cake was pretty much exactly as I had imagined, so long ago. Mr. Guinea Pig and I had wanted a simple, round cake that looked more like an actual cake than a piece of art that you’d be afraid to eat. After feeling so much incredible love, warmth and happiness during the toasts, Mr. Guinea Pig and I snuck out while everyone got their dinner so that we could take a few moments to ourselves and enjoy the beautiful sunset.

Finally, it was reception time! Again we hid out in the bridal party suite while the venue’s staff ushered everyone through to pick up their escort flowers and take their seats. The wedding party entered to the first part of the Star Wars “Throne Room” theme!

Mr. GP and I entered to the opening strains of Muse’s Starlight and I have to say, entering the reception was a little weird. Everyone was clapping and cheering for us, but I wasn’t sure what we were supposed to do! So Mr. GP and I smiled at our photogs, waved at folks, and made a beeline for our sweetheart table.

After this photo, we decided we’d had enough of the indoor photos and went outside to brave the crazy wind. I’m glad we did, because even though everyone’s hair, dresses, suit flaps, ties, etc. were whipping around in the wind, we still got great photos from it. When I look through the photos from after the ceremony, Mr. Guinea Pig and I have huge smiles on our faces in all of them. I love it, and I think it speaks to just how happy we were right then. After we had listened to our readings and our officiant’s charge to us as a couple, it was time to say our vows!
Mr. Guinea Pig and I both wrote our own vows—we had shared iterations of them before the wedding to make sure they were similar in length and style, but the final vows were a surprise for the day of. We both wrote them on pieces of paper to read at the ceremony despite their short length, knowing that the nerves of the day would prevent (me at least) a recitation from memory.
Mr. GP’s vows were sweet, sentimental, and funny—just like him!
He made me laugh (left photo), and then he made me cry (happy tears, of course). On the right you can see me desperately trying not to burst into tears. As Mrs. French Fries said, this is my “I’m trying not to cry” face. Read more…

This was it! It was time to walk down that beautiful grassy aisle! Our ceremony musician, guitarist Rich Barry, officially kicked things off by starting to play Sheep May Safely Graze (Bach), which Mr. GP and our officiant first walked out to, then Mr. GP’s parents together, then my mom escorted by Mr. Guinea Pig’s sisters.

Mr. Guinea Pig and I saw each other before the ceremony, and I’m so glad we chose to do that because it felt like we hardly had any time for photos after the ceremony. Before I saw Mr. GP though, I took a little spin in the spotlight myself! To calm my nerves about having the camera turned on me, I acted like a goofball, then laughed at myself.

While my friends and I were gettin’ all pretty, the boys were having their own fun afternoon. I had told Mr. Guinea Pig that our second shooter would be arriving to their room around 3:30 to take some ’getting ready’ photos before they left for the venue - later, Mr. GP would admit to me that they were all so antsy and nervous, they were pretty much completely ready and just waiting around when the photographer got there!
Still, I love looking at the photos from the guys that afternoon because of all the camaraderie. I’m also really glad we have a photo of Mr. GP putting on the tie I handmade for him, and love that Best Man J helped make sure it was juuust right.
