After walking down the aisle with Papa Hot Wings, we ended up next to Mr Hot Wings. Papa hugged me and shook Mr Hot Wings’ hand. I’ve written out our ceremony for you below. Read more…

And then the music began. If you can, play this Love Story meets Viva la Vida song by Jon Schmidt.
We chose Mr Hot Wings’ uncle D to be our Deputy Commissioner of Civil Marriage. A simple form to the County Registrar’s office and a $50 check meant he could officiate and sign our marriage certificate. Super easy. Almost too easy if you ask me, but it worked out great for us. He led the processional, and the Wingmen followed.

After all that picture taking, we finally had a free moment to rest before the civil ceremony. Mama Hot Wings needed more camera time, so I smiled and posed for the camera. Doesn’t she look happy?
Guests started arriving and taking their seats. We had no seating arrangement. Aside from a few reserved seats, it was a free-for-all, first come first serve seating arrangement. We didn’t care if people sat on the groom’s or the bride’s side. Read more…

Remember when I decided that I didn’t care to “create” a blog-worthy looking stack of books and instead took meaningful books off our very own bookshelf to create our own blog-worthy stack of books?

My favorite post thus far is one about working on our relationship. Mr. Hot Wings and I really work hard at our relationship. We define our relationship by the choice we have made to be together and we choose to work on making it work. The sessions that I discussed in this post have helped to define us as a couple and gave us a lot of material for our wedding ceremony. So, while the wedding planning process is mostly to plan an event, we sometimes forget that relationships don’t stop needing to be cared for. Relationships are delicate and need to be nurtured. Partners need to be heard and feel needed. Work as it may be, it honestly is very rewarding, too! So I want to re-share this post in honor of the continued work that engaged couples must commit to on top of the wedding planning itself.

OK that picture is just silly. We Hot Wings dressed as Ninjas to fight GM Wingman B dressed as a pirate. It’s the best I could come with for this post.
Anyways, I’ve mentioned how much Mr. Hot Wings and I believe in working on our relationship. We actually began officially “working” on it years ago. After being together for almost 2 years, we hit our first big rough patch in our relationship. We considered going to couple’s counseling then decided against it because some of our problems at the time had to do with our inter-cultural and inter-racial relationship. Read more…

Yes, we already saw each other at the tea ceremony. We even had lunch together. But if we’re going to see each other again in my final outfit of the day, why not make it a big deal? So, while the Wingmen finished their photo shoot, the Hotties tried to shield me with their parasols until it was time.

Having children in and at our wedding was never a question. In fact, I had discussed the fun photos of kids we could have because they were around.I let our flower girl, my little cousin, pick out her own dress. Could you tell she was in love with it? I totally see the youthful me in her.

I’m going to go a bit out of order for the next couple posts as I get us all through the formals. We did formals at 2 different times: before and after the civil ceremony. Even though we didn’t take all these photos at the same time or in this order, I would like to keep the family portraits to one post. Here’s the timing we used, for those of you working on your photography schedule.
Pre-Civil Ceremony
Groom & Groomsmen
Groom’s family
First Look
Bride & Groom
Bridals
Bride & Brideswomen
Couple & Wedding Party
After Civil Ceremony
Family Formals with Bride & Groom

We started with Mr Hot Wings and his familia. Don’t the in laws look picture perfect? Sometimes I think they look like the picture of the model family that comes in frames. They’re so pretty!
Mr Hot Wings looks like the perfect blend of his mama and papa, doesn’t he? And Mama In Law looks gorgeous, right? That teal looks so great on her!

Nine wingmen and 1 lil’ wing on a cliff overlooking the ocean—the only props they have are sunglasses. For all you planning brides, consider the area you’re having your men take photos and definitely don’t forget about the accessories and props. We decided to take our formals on the cliff next to our ceremony site, Ocean View Villas. It wasn’t exactly the smartest photography decision we made with all that straight-on harsh sun, but whatever. Read more…

I realized I haven’t talked about the gifts our wedding party received. So here they are. I wasn’t exactly the most creative in this area, but I was pretty happy with the gifts we gave each person. We forgot to formally give each person their gift at the rehearsal dinner, so we ran around at the end of the rehearsal night to give them to people who were left. The rest of the group got their gifts on our wedding day, so we have some photos of them opening them on the day of.

It’s finally time to go through the actual ceremony portion of the Tea Ceremony. As you read this post, remember that the tea ceremony is not a religious ceremony; it is a cultural ceremony. The rituals are meant to bring good luck and to unite the families.
First, the family candles needed to be lit. Papa Hot Wings invited Papa-in-Law to light the dragon candle to represent the groom’s family. Papa Hot Wings lit the bride’s phoenix candle. Read more…
