Since, as I have mentioned before, Mr. Hum and I are full blown geeks, there are a number of elements to the wedding that are on the geeky side.
The very first geeky project that we started working on way back in the fall was the video game themed table signs and escort cards. We don’t have a hard and fast rule about where people are supposed to sit at the wedding, so we figured these would suffice and that as long as people knew which table they were assigned to, it would be okay.
The design process on these babies was pretty grueling for Mr. Hum (I stake no claim over the art stuff, that’s all him) because we got the silly little idea that each person attending the wedding would have a different video game character on their escort card, as well as a blurb on the back, explaining who his or her character was and what they did in their game.
In theory, this is an awesome idea. In practice, finding the art and information for 77 table cards is a gigantic pain in the ass.

Before I dated Mr. Hummingbird, I went out with about 12 different people and of those dirty dozen, as I affectionately call them, I really only seriously dated three.
I met the first of the three back when I was a senior in high school. I was 17 and fasttracking so I could graduate early, so I was reasonably smart when it came to academics. However, what I wasn’t smart about was relationships and as a result, I ended up in what I would probably call the worst relationship of my life.

In my vow post, I mentioned that we originally were interested in the idea of including a handfasting in our ceremony. Sadly, over the course of ceremony retooling, we ended up removing this ceremony (as well as all of our readings) for the sake of time and clarity.
However, because handfastings are really beautiful and an awesome old tradition, I figured I would write a post about them.

Before I started dating Mr. Hum, I had never in my life heard of Lee Valley. We moved a fair amount when I was a kid and we really didn’t do enough home renovation to be familiar with the high end hardware store.
However, my first Christmas from Mr. Hum, his family gave us a tonne of Lee Valley tools and I came to see how cool it actually was.
This weekend as we went on a hunt for supplies to finish up our cake stands*, I realized that not only did they carry a bunch of really great homeware supplies, but they’ve got a bunch of stuff that could work for someone’s wedding.
So I’ve grabbed some of the pictures from their website and figured I would spread a little of the Bee inspiration with some decor ideas. Check it out!

Copper Trays ($5.90-$19.50 per tray) - You could use these for little serving trays, as a base for floral centerpieces or you could fill them with river rocks and candles for a more rustic look.

The whole thing about writing vows is, there is practically nothing you can say that won’t sound a little bit cheesy or like you ripped off a Beatles song. However, working on our wedding ceremony, we wanted to make sure that through the haze of love, we said the things we really wanted to say to each other.
Joe Cocker always kind of looks like he’s in the process of having a stroke when he sings, doesn’t he?

After my etsy ordered hair clips didn’t work out and after I realized that we’re about four weeks out from the wedding now, I embarked on round two of Operation Hair Accessory.
Mr. Hum and I searched through a number of stores in the core until I came across something I felt would work. And where did I find this mysterious and elusive item? Well much to my surprise, it was actually at Urban Outfitters. Recently a new three story one opened up in Toronto’s awesome Queen Street West District and in spite of my reluctance to look in, I ended up hitting pay dirt and finding something that I think will look pretty cool with my simple silhouetted dress.
Anyway, because I expected nothing when I walked in and saw they actually had a few decent options, I figured I would share my find with you hivers and show some of the cool stuff they have available.

A very simple double wire batik headband.
I think somehow someone has hit a switch somewhere and turned everything into bizarro world because I’ve been feeling almost as though, the closer the wedding gets, the calmer we get and the more everyone else freaks out.

Though our parents were sweet enough to help us with some of the big ticket items for our wedding (Mr. Hum’s dad is helping pay for the tent and rentals and my parents are helping with the catering bill), we are paying for pretty much everything else ourselves.
As I’ve mentioned before, we are on a budget since Mr. Hum and I both work in creative but lower paying jobs, and this has been a little tricky in that, unfortunately, the incidental wedding stuff can add up pretty darn quickly.
However, happily enough, we have a bunch of really awesome and creative friends who, upon hearing we were getting married, offered their services to us for the wedding, making them our friend vendors or as I like to call them “Friendors”.
Our lovely wedding photographer, Tom*, has been a friend of Mr. Hum’s since he was in high school. In addition to having totally rocked the Robert Smith Hairdo in high school (he’s a bit older than Mr. Hum and me) and being an absolute sweetheart, he takes gorgeous photographs and has taken two of my all-time favourite pics of us.

When Mr. Hummingbird and I picked the date for the wedding, we discussed a couple of dates before we ended up on what I thought was the best choice - June 28th.
Not only would my workload by slow enough that I could actually take a honeymoon (wahoo!), but June 28th this year will be the four year anniversary of our very first date (meaning Mr. Hummingbird will only ever have to remember one date.
)
And the flower is off my head.
Not too long after I wrote my post about hair accessories, I knew I needed to buy mine, so I rushed out to order myself some. I was looking for something purple in the hopes that I could find something to compliment my bouquet, which was especially tricky, but I managed to find a shop on etsy that seemed to have something that would work. So, I ordered two different ones for fun - one for the rehearsal dinner and one for the wedding itself.
The shop was relatively new and hadn’t sold too much stock, but as I know several people who sell on etsy (including Mr. Hum!), I didn’t think much of it, because I know it can take a while to get a fanbase.
Anyway, I was really excited to get my purchases and every day when I got home I asked Mr. Hum if they’d arrived because I was anxious to try them on. But somehow, they never seemed to come while other things I had ordered after seemed to be arriving no problem.

Dear Wedding Shoes,
I really hate to say this, because you know how much I love you, but, way back in February I almost cheated on you.

Way back around the time I started blogging in the fall, I wrote about a falling out I had with a person I referred to as my best friend. The thing I’ve come to learn about friends is, the real ones, the ones who love you and care about your happiness are the ones who will stand by you and be there for you. Which is why, with the wedding coming up, I wanted to share a story of someone who has been like that for me for a long time now - my friend Oscar.

The lady rocking the 1980s perm and pearls is my mom. The little gremlin shoving food in its mouth is me (some things never change.)
I love buying dresses. Being as tall as I am, dresses tend to be one of the few clothing items I can buy without any fuss or muss, so when I see one I like and it fits, I go for it.
This weekend, thanks to my lovely and talented Maid of Honour Erin, I was the guest of honour at a truly awesome bridal shower complete with special kitty guests! (but I’ll get to that later).
Things were a little crazy leading up to the shower as I had a bit of “stage fright” and Canada Post lost a bunch of the invites (Grrr!) which left us scrambling to re-invite people with a week to go, but everyone had a great time. In fact, one of my friends who came told me afterwards “I normally hate these things, but yours was fun!”
Anyway, Erin was kind enough to take pictures and e-mail them to me so I could share them with you guys, my lovely blogging audience, so may I present, the photographic tour of my shower!
