We are two self-professed nerds with an affinity for all things outdoors---be it rain, snow or shine. Recently relocated from the drizzly Northwest, we're enjoying the many sun-soaked days in the mile high city. Our day will be filled with both of our large families and friends, a self-served Cajun feast, and a Zydeco-style jazz band rocking beneath the beams of a historic red barn.
Let’s talk about the ceremony music, and how we want it to set the tone for our entire celebration. I want our wedding to be a fun and lighthearted celebration, and I didn’t want to have to wait for the reception for that attitude. So I went about my search for a good processional song, and I stumbled upon this:
Okay, it didn’t start out as a search for the processional song. But when I heard the song, and read about the organization, it seemed so fitting. Read more…

I was hoping for ‘Hippopotami’ but my good friend Google tells me it’s ‘Hippopotamuses’. So what does this have to do with the Husky Wedding, you ask? I just had to show you our adorable ”cake” toppers:
(personal photo)
They’re actually vintage salt & pepper shakers that I may or may not have gotten into an eBay bidding war over. They still came out less expensive than a lot of the cake toppers I’ve seen, and we can keep using them after our wedding!
Our goal is to keep our one-time-use purchases to a minimum. Read more…

When we started searching for a location for our wedding, we needed to get creative. Our goals were to:
Save money
Keep the altitude beneath 6k feet (more on that later)
Bring our own booze
Have ultimate control over how our catering was done
As you can imagine, we had a difficult time finding just the right place. As I sighed with frustration one evening after what felt like hours of researching venues, Mr. Husky suggested changing the scope of my search.
He thought maybe the word “wedding” was sort of like the word “marine” – meaning, more expensive. Exhibit A:
Granted, they’re made of different materials. But I think that can apply to weddings as well – typically the venues serve a very specialized purpose, catering specifically to the needs of very particular brides. That’s just not us. We don’t need, or want the all-in-one package.

I hate cake. I always have. No, I’m not worried about bodily expansion, and it has nothing to do with the wrath of the dentist. It’s the texture – so spongy and dry. Don’t get me wrong, I love desserts. But my poisons are pies (especially pecan and marionberry!) ice cream, dark chocolate, and my very favorite: cookies. I am particularly drawn to big, squishy cookies, and, well, when the Girl Scouts start showing up with boxes of Tagalongs at my local grocery store, I have a very hard time walking past.

Much to the initial dismay of my FMIL, we will be using homegrown flowers almost exclusively. MIL Husky is a master gardener; her sprawling sunken garden can put the publishers of Fine Gardening to shame. So her disappointment didn’t stem from our desire to grow our own – it’s because we live in a very dry climate that prevents us from growing many of the bright blooms that she’s accustomed to growing in the Pacific NW. Our growing environment considerations really limit what our arrangements can contain.
But there are many options for those of us living in dry climates, and we’re not stuck with the blooms of yuccas and the needles of cacti. Need proof? We are currently (or soon to be) growing everything here:

I was packing for a business road trip when Mr. Husky decided to ride shotgun. His schedule was flexible, and he was eager to explore a side of the state he’d never seen: Ouray.
An outdoor paradise in any season, Ouray is a tiny town tucked inside the massive rocky mountains that are constantly filled with ice-climbers, hikers, and Jeeps.
My destination was just a few towns over, and we decided to extend the trip into the weekend and make a vacation out of it. Little did I know that it would turn out to be the vacation that I returned from with a glittering accoutrement on my left ring finger! Read more…

Hiya hive! I’d both anticipated and dreaded the day I opened my email to find a response to my Weddingbee application. It is such a privilege to be welcomed into the hive of so many creative, enthusiastic and supportive bees! As Mr. Husky said to his dad earlier this afternoon, I am just *buzzing* with excitement! While I know I’m not the first bee to use that phrase, I probably come from the one of the only families that regularly uses it.
