Mr. Jaguar and I have been together for the past eight years and he finally popped the question last August. Hurrah! We currently live in Sydney, Australia with our adorable cat who thinks he's a person. We're a couple who likes to multi-task: we've been planning a wedding abroad, a permanent move from London to Sydney, and preparing to build our own home all at the same time. Ah, our bridal party. Our super, easygoing, hilarious bridal party. They endured the rain, the wind, the freezing cold weather, and did it all with smiles on their faces. Both Mr. Jaguar and I had our share of disappointments in the early days of wedding planning, with ‘friends’ letting us down. The final six that we had were the real deal. We are so, so lucky to have had them standing by our sides on our wedding day.
I was excited about the reception venue that we’d booked. It was a gorgeous building, an old heritage one with plenty of photo locations—or at least, that’s what I’d thought. Without going into too much detail for the moment, we eventually managed to find a few places where Andrew and Sarah and our videographer, Amy, could grab some group shots.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the details of wedding planning. The ideas, the guests, the finances, the colours, the dress! But during our day, I couldn’t get over how much in love I was with Mr. Jaguar—I spent 99% of the day clutching his hand and very, very rarely let go. Being married felt different, felt secure, felt whole, as silly as it sounds.
But instead of providing the words it deserves, since I could never accurately summarise how I felt on the day (and still feel, now) I’ll stick with pictures.

The clouds had blown over, the rain had started… it was time to make some decisions about our wedding photographs. The loose plan was to head to a fairly close location that had nice scenic views of Sydney in the background and then head to our venue afterwards for a few formal portraits. The weather was very unpredictable though—rain showers, followed by grey skies, followed by more drizzle. We decided to risk a few outdoor shots, and see how the weather held up.
Besides, I had a secret weapon up my sleeve that I couldn’t wait to test out!
Yep, those are the most obnoxiously bright and cheerful gumboots I could find the day before the wedding. And, I have to say, they were SO comfortable. After a quick change of footwear and a little dress drama (the bustle button snapped off…more on this later) we hoofed it across the park to take some pictures.

As we exited the church, I couldn’t stop myself from looking at Mr. Jaguar—constantly. We were married! He was my husband. And I had suddenly been turned into a wife.
As our bridal party and our parents followed us down the aisle, we took a few shots in the entry way and then made a hasty (and sneaky!) run up the side of the church to the alternate entrance.

We always knew we would have a traditional Catholic ceremony. We opted to have ours without a full mass/Eucharist and focused on keeping the wedding as much about love and about ‘us’ as we could, all the while remembering that in the eyes of the church, marriage is a holy sacrament.
I’ll admit, there was many a time over the course of our wedding planning where I longed for the freedom of writing our own vows or expressing our love in a less scripted way. On the day though, I was so filled with love and warm fuzzies that it wouldn’t have mattered what reading was shared or what psalms were sang— we were getting married.
Father Christopher began with an introduction and welcome, as well as an opening prayer over us as a couple.

For all of the fuzzy haze I was surrounded in on the wedding day, our wedding ceremony stands out in my mind in perfect clarity.
I remember standing at the entrance to our church, thinking that it had a much longer aisle than I remembered and suddenly getting nervous.
I remember watching my first bridesmaid head off down the aisle at the speed of light and wondering whether Father Christopher would be cranky about it.

The dress was on. The veil was in, albeit roughly. The girls were dressed. It was time to go. But was it? You see, this my friends, is where bride brain kicked in.
Instead of relaxing and taking some portrait shots with the girls, I was busy worrying about being late. I forgot to take a moment to drink our champagne, even though I’d made sure we had glasses and bubbly ready to go. I didn’t even think to grab our props, the ones I’d specifically bought to use with my bridal party in pictures. If I had one regret about the morning of our wedding day, it would be not taking the time to breathe and remember that there was no need to rush. I was a bride: people would wait for me.
The only close-up picture of me prior to the wedding, taken by MOH Miss K.

With the boys on their way to the church and with the girls’ hair and makeup done, there was only one thing left for me to do. It was time to get the dress on.

The boys didn’t purchase their suits for our wedding, they hired them. This seems to go against most of the trends in wedding world right now, but all of the groomsmen agreed that they didn’t particularly need another suit, so this option worked perfectly for us.
Having not been there to see the guys getting ready, seeing these photographs gave me a serious case of the warm and fuzzies. The boys all helped each other getting dressed, and seemed to be having fun while doing it!

I was the last to get made up on the morning of my wedding day. I liked the idea of lazing about and watching everyone else get beautified—though looking back, I almost wish I’d gone first. Even though the morning began in a laid back and relaxing fashion, time quickly started disappearing. It was time to get my face on.

While the girls were in a flurry of activity all morning, the guys had a lazy start to the wedding day. Casual clothes and a few rounds of pool? I kind of wish we’d gotten ready here too!

While I lounged around the hotel room in a white robe and black fluffy UGG boots, it was time for my bridesmaids and mother to begin getting made up.
After discovering Jenny from Le Fabulous online and having a few trial runs before the wedding (once for a trial, once for our engagement shoot), I knew I was in great hands—as were my bridal party.

I slept like a baby the night before the wedding. That is until just before 6AM, when I was awoken by the phone ringing. You guys, I got pranked on the morning of my wedding! I remember staggering over to the phone, listening to some guy called ‘Gary’ speak for a little while, feeling tired, telling him it was my wedding day today and hanging up on him to head back to bed for another hour. To this day I still don’t know who that caller was or how he got my hotel room number. Mysterious, very mysterious.

There was one last thing I needed the girls to help me with before they left me to my thoughts on wedding day’s eve. It was the most precious of my parcels: the dress!
With a little hoisting and a handy curtain hook, we got it hung up and flattened out.

I feel a little bad admitting this, but I hardly saw Mr. Jaguar on the day before our wedding.
Two of my best girlfriends were arriving into Sydney for the wedding, so I kissed him goodbye and headed off to meet them on the Friday morning. I spent the day with them (and my mum and Maid of Honour) getting our nails done at the salon.
