This is my favorite post because it sums up the happiest day of my life so perfectly. Every time I watch it I feel like I am in the Cayman Islands again, saying “I do” to Mr. Kitten. I treasure this little three minute video!

Hmm, not exactly the sort of bachelorette party entertainment I had in mind… Source
A few weeks before our wedding, Mr. K and I had our bachelor/bachelorette parties. Mr. K and his friends rented a lake house in the nearby town of New Braunfels while I had a Girls’ Weekend in Austin– my second bridal shower and bachelorette party! I selected a specific weekend in March because it was during my Spring Break, after some major law school assignments were due. And after I determined the date, my lovely friends stepped in to organize the festivities. Read more…

Three weeks before our wedding, I stumbled across a great idea for a DIY wedding gift on one of my favorite wedding blogs (aside from The ‘bee, of course!), OnceWed. The project is a pocket square (aka handkerchief) with a message to the groom. In the tutorial, Laurie used an excerpt from The Owl and the Pussycat by Edward Lear:
“And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand, They danced by the light of the moon.”
Although this project would be easy to personalize with whatever content you choose, this particular passage struck me as perfect for our seaside wedding. And the price for this DIY project was right as well!

The day after Valentine’s Day, Mr. K and I had a Valentine’s-themed shower hosted by friends and family back home. This was our first official wedding event, and it was so much fun!
The hostess of the shower asked me for an array of pictures of Mr. K and me, from baby pictures to engagement pictures, to use at the shower. I didn’t learn what she was using them for until I arrived, but it was the cutest idea: picture trees! Read more…

Months and months ago when I was in the beginning of the wedding planning process, I came across these table numbers available for download on the Martha Stewart Weddings site. I loved the look of them and always knew I would find a way to incorporate them into our wedding. A few weeks before the big day, I still hadn’t decided how we would mark our tables. On one of my many, many trips to Michaels, I had spotted these light blue Martha Stewart Crafts photo albums. The front and back covers are covered with fabric and the insides have heavy accordion-folded paper. The albums were $9.99 apiece. Armed with my 40% off coupons, I decided these photo albums were the perfect vehicles for Martha’s table numbers. Read more…

In my last post, I discussed making a grand exit. Some of you took a guess at what we chose to be showered with as we made our getaway, and for those of you that guessed lavender… you were right! So why did I post a picture of birdseed? Because I am totally head over heels for this wedding-toss packaging!
Ellie at Mint Design Blog created these little birdseed bags for her wedding (she also designed tags for a rice throw). And aren’t they adorable? I love the witty explanation on the tag and the colorful stitched closure at the top of the bag. I was SO ready to take on this project. Read more…

The tradition of showering the newlyweds as they leave the wedding comes from the Ancient Romans. The Romans showered newlyweds with nuts, seeds, and grains to symbolize wishes of good luck and abundance upon the happy couple. These days, we aren’t using nuts and grains so much–but for the modern couple, there are plenty of options to choose from!

I know, I know! I’ve been a little absent lately! Life has definitely gotten in the way of my blogging. Since my last post about our wedding movie preview I have finished up my spring semester classes, gone on a fabulous two-week honeymoon to Italy, graduated from law school, moved to a new city with my husband, and hit the ground running preparing for the bar exam (all the while writing lots and lots of thank you notes)! Whew! I’m exhausted just thinking about it all!
Anyway, back to wedding-related topics! Last week I received my DVD of wedding photos from our photographers The Nichols and I am SO excited to share them with you!

I’ll admit it. I really wanted to see tears from Mr. Kitten as I walked down the aisle on our wedding day! Okay, maybe I didn’t want him to break down like this guy, but I was hoping for one little tear, or some seriously watery eyes, at the least!
Mr. K and I aren’t very emotional people. I have only seen him tear up once–when he proposed to me, 2.5 years ago! And I hardly ever cry myself–he has probably seen me cry only a handful of times during our 4.5 year relationship (one of those times was on our minimoon, but I’ll save that for a later post!).
I wrote earlier about our decision not to do a “first look”, which is largely based on the fact that I wanted to save up all that emotion (a.k.a. Mr. Kitten’s tears!) for our wedding ceremony. Read more…

After some research, I determined that StillMotion was out of our budget (although they were super helpful and nice!), but the very talented Joe Simon could work with the Kitten budget. With Joe I found exactly what I was looking for–a wedding cinematographer with a fresh, artistic style who makes wedding films that I could actually afford! If he sounds familiar, it’s because he filmed Mrs. Bird of Paradise’s wedding back in 2006! Joe travels all over the country and abroad to film weddings, and he was thrilled about the prospect of coming to the Cayman Islands. Read more…

When I started planning our wedding, I never thought I would hire a wedding videographer. The wedding videos I had seen up to that point were, let’s face it, pretty darn boring. Sure, it’s great to record the day for posterity, but most wedding videos aren’t exactly something that a couple will pull off the shelf and watch very often. Most of my married friends didn’t hire a videographer for this very reason. Not only that, but videographers aren’t exactly cheap; in fact, they can be a huge expense! At the very most, I was gravitating to delegating wedding videography to a friend or family member, who would use a handheld camera–something other Bees, like Miss Piglet, have talked about doing as well. During the course of our wedding planning, Mr. K and I had a really hard time deciding what song we would use for our first dance. The closest thing we have to a “song” would be Such Great Heights (by The Postal Service or Iron and Wine–we love both versions!) but it’s not a great song for dancing (the Postal Service version is too electronic and the Iron and Wine version would put people to sleep!). We also didn’t want to pick a song just because it seemed like a good first dance song. For example, I love the song At Last by Etta James–it’s a beautiful, classic song, and fitting for a couple that has had a 4.5 year courtship, but the song just wasn’t “us” enough to be our first dance song. A while back I posted about the idea of creating trivia cards to keep guests entertained during our cocktail hour. I printed them on Moo business cards. Moo cards are great because not only can you print on both sides, but you can print a different image on each card! I’ve been getting some questions about how the process works, so here’s a little tutorial on how to make your very own Moo cards.
Here’s how it works–say you have two sides to the card, Side A and Side B. Read more…
