I have a major procrastination problem. Our wedding is in about a month and a half and I JUST decided on bridesmaid dresses! I still haven’t set the dinner menu for our reception! Our wedding invitations haven’t been sent yet! I just started thinking about cake flavors! Eek! As you can see, I have A LOT to do in the next six weeks!

Since I decided to choose rainbow sherbet colored dresses for my ’maids, I wanted to stick with the same dress style. My favorite style was the twist-tank dress, but Littlest Sister Kitten is a junior bridesmaid and a little too young for that V-neck action! I decided to have two of the bridesmaids wear the “Twist-Front” dress and two wear the “Abigail” dress. The dresses are really similar, with the same fabric and same skirt, just different necklines.

Okay, okay, I realize there have been a lot of J. Crew posts lately. But who can blame Miss Peep Toe, Miss Lemonade, Miss Latte, Miss Meatball, and me for loving on J.Crew when you can order bridesmaids dresses and get them THE VERY NEXT DAY! Or even RETURN THEM if they aren’t what you wanted! Or possibly find them ON SALE! I love it! After the Melissa Sweet debacle, I started to look into other options, and I just loved the idea of NOT WAITING SEVERAL MONTHS FOR OUR FLIPPIN’ BRIDESMAID DRESSES!
So, to jcrew.com I went. Way back when we were going to have an aqua, chartreuse, and sapphire wedding, I fell in love with this J. Crew “Lydia” dress (in a lovely sapphire shade).

I’ve never been crazy about the idea of serving wedding cake. Don’t get me wrong—I love cake! It’s just that whenever I imagine our big day, a wedding cake isn’t in the picture. But, I am a HUGE fan of cupcakes! Cupcakes make it easy to have a variety of flavors for people to choose from. And leftover cupcakes would be so much easier for the guests to tote home after the wedding. Read more…

While at my parents’ house last week I discovered that one of our family friends had dropped off a wedding gift for Mr. Kitten and me! I REALLY wanted to tear it open the moment I discovered it, but since the gifts are for us as a couple, I restrained myself. I had to wait over a week to see Mr. Kitten and open the gift, but today we finally got to unwrap it!

Today I signed up for a second gym membership. Yes, you heard me right, I am currently a member of TWO gyms. You’re probably thinking that I’m some kind of exercise manic—but that couldn’t be further from the truth! I HATE working out! But I’m trying really hard to tone up before I have to face my wedding guests not only in my body-hugging Lia dress, but in a swimsuit as well (eek!)!!
I already belong to a gym in Austin, but I split my time pretty evenly between Austin and San Antonio (where Mr. K lives). I wasn’t able to keep up my workout regimen in San Antonio without a gym to go to, so I joined Mr. K’s gym. The monthly fee is quite steep, and normally I wouldn’t splurge on something like a second gym membership, but I seem to be rationalizing every big purchase lately with the mantra, “But it’s for the wedding!”
Allow me to let you in on other large purchases I have rationalized with this handy little number: Read more…

Now that I’ve shared my engagement story, it’s time to see the bling! I’ve been engaged for over two years and have never really taken pictures of my ring. I know nothing about photography and didn’t know how to photograph my ring without it looking like a huge white blur, until Mrs. Avocado and Anne Ruthmann’s tutorials came along! And I kind of cheated, I had a friend who had already taken some beautiful ring shots of her own come over and help me! We didn’t use a tripod or any special equipment, just a pashmina and my roommate’s desk lamp! Someday Mr. Kitten and I want to buy a real camera, but here is what I came up with using my handy digital camera!

You may remember that I sent “Will You Be My Flower Girl?” cards to my special little ladies, Cousin Kitten and Future Niece Kitten. I was so excited to hear back from the girls and their parents when they received the cards. Future Brother-In-Law Kitten called as soon has he got the package, and gushed about how much his daughter, Future Niece Kitten, loved the card and gifts. But a few weeks passed and I STILL hadn’t heard a response from Cousin Kitten!
Yesterday, I casually asked my dad if he had heard anything. He said something along the lines of “Oh, yeah… you sent her a card? …Right… I heard something about that… they really liked it.”
Liked it? After all my slaving away with the paper and the glue and the stamps and the embossing?! Read more…

Overwhelmed? Feeling like you are doing all the wedding-planning work? If you’re anything like me, you feel the need to do every wedding-related task yourself. No, you’re not a masochist, but you just know that only you can do it best (control freak alert!).
Of course, there are grooms out there who are very involved in the wedding planning process. I’ve seen a few DIY projects where the groom made the invitations by hand or did the calligraphy on the envelopes himself! Sadly, Mr. Kitten does not have crafting or calligraphy skills, but that hasn’t stopped me from delegating other time-consuming tasks to him! Read more…

Yes, That’s my dad, clipboard in hand, surveying his kingdom (otherwise know as our wedding venue).
I just got off the phone with my dad. He just added another person to our guest list, our intimate seaside wedding. It was another one of his golfing buddies that I have never met. This was after I told him over Christmas, “the invitations are ordered, the guest list is closed.”

When we left off I was standing at the top of the stairs on the grounds of the Four Seasons in Austin, peering down at Mr. K.
The words “surprise”, “shock”, and “awe” come to mind when I reflect on my feelings at the time, yet none of them can adequately explain my mental state. Prior to being startled by Mr. K calling my name, I was already brimming with nervous energy due to the fact that I thought I was going to my first law firm recruiting event. So not only did Mr. K’s surprise TOTALLY blindside me, but it multiplied my nervousness by about a million!

Dear Melissa Sweet/Priscilla of Boston/purveyors of wedding and bridesmaids dresses everywhere:
Why, oh why does it take FIVE MONTHS for you to make a dress? I know I procrastinated on picking out bridesmaids dresses, but I just decided on my wedding dress! And how could I have picked out the bridesmaids’ dresses until I knew what I, the bride, was wearing? If I could have foreseen that the salespeople at your bridal salon in Dallas would LAUGH AT ME when I asked, in December, if I could order bridesmaids dresses for our April 4th wedding, I would have ordered them sooner! But, really, how was I supposed to know? You’ve already designed the dresses, and most of you only come out with a handful of dress designs per season (Melissa Sweet, I’m talking to you). You already have the materials and a factory of people to make them. So why does it take five months for a dress to be delivered once it has been ordered?
I have two theories about the cause of such delay: Read more…

I have a confession to make. Mr. Kitten and I weren’t always going to have a destination wedding. We actually flip-flopped on the issue for quite some time. I was never the little girl who dreamt of my wedding day, and I always had the feeling that I might want to have a small destination wedding on the beach (or even elope!). Mr. Kitten is an Army brat and I moved around a lot growing up, so our families are scattered throughout the country. If most of our wedding guests will have to travel anyway, why not have them go somewhere fabulous?
When we shared our tentative destination wedding plans early in our engagement, our friends and family had a lot of opinions about our decision. Read more…

Mr. Kitten proposed during my first semester of law school. Law firms start recruiting students for summer clerkship positions in the fall, so in October, my entire class was abuzz with talk about law firms, jobs, and grades. Because many firms make offers before first year students receive any grades, students try to use every connection possible to get their foot in the door. One of Mr. Kitten’s best friends has a dad that is a lawyer in Austin (let’s call him Mr. B). I didn’t know Mr. B very well so I didn’t feel comfortable asking him for any favors, but Mr. Kitten insisted that he would pass the word along to Mr. B that I was job hunting.
One day in mid-October, I unexpectedly received a phone call from Mr. B. He told me that he knew I was job hunting and invited me to a recruiting event a few days later at the Four Seasons.
