Okay, ladies. Time to spill it. What pet names do you and your fiance/husband have for each other?

I’ll go first.

Mr. Licorice now calls me “wifey.” I call him “lovey.”

I’ve been pretty busy setting up our new apartment (and dealing with the Financial Aid department at school, bleh), so I haven’t gotten around to blogging about DIY fun. Thus, I am taking the easy way out; here are some non-pro wedding pics:

What Have I Missed?!

September 11th, 2007 @ 8:31 am by Mrs. Licorice

Hey y’all! I’m back from Paris, and I see there is a flurry of activity at the hive! I can’t wait to read all the posts I missed! :)

As for the wedding, it was truly the most wonderful day of my life. The day started out cloudy and gray, but by mid-afternoon, the sun had come out to play. The cool breeze added a certain zest to the evening, and all of my guests told me they had a great time!

Since I didn’t have time to post about all things DIY and some general awesomeness before the wedding, I had planned on sharing some of my little projects when I got back. However, my amazing photographer, Heidi Geldhauser of Our Labor of Love, sent me a little present via e-mail: teaser pics! I thought I might save them for later, but F’ that!

BUNS! BUNS! BUNS! BUNS!

August 30th, 2007 @ 3:43 pm by Mrs. Licorice

This past weekend was INSANE! My bachelorette party was Saturday night with my bridal shower following the very next day. I’ll share my bachelorette party in this post. (Please don’t read this at work. There is a suprise at the end.)

It all started with the invitation that included this poem:

Something saucy or something sexy will get you in the door-
At the Hyatt Place Buckhead and on the hoppin’ floor-
Before they seal it with a kiss or before he lifts her veil-
The girls will gather one more time to raise some fun and hell-
So, gather quickly - stand by her side and as you lift your glass-
The crystal will cling, the ring will bling, and we’ll be toasting to her finding permanent-
Love.

Needless to say, I came ready to party:

Take Me To Vegas…

August 28th, 2007 @ 8:28 am by Mrs. Licorice

When I heard all the buzz about the influx of passport requests, I was super nervous about getting mine on time. I had it expedited with overnight shipping both ways, and that seems to have done the trick. It cost quite a bit more, but the price was nothing compared to the thought of not going to Paris.

Please excuse the stupid expression on my face; the flash was bright:

___, Here I Come!

August 26th, 2007 @ 12:34 pm by Mrs. Licorice

At the beginning of planning our wedding, my fiance decided to keep the honeymoon a suprise. A few of my married friends had done this and said it was exciting and fun. Well, I do love a good suprise, as long as I’m not expecting one. If I already know about it, I start to freak out.

Mr. Licorice was able to keep it a secret for a long time without interrogation, so I am proud of myself for that. Eventually, however, the questions came. They were just little guesses as to where we were going. “Is it Greece?” “I don’t know.” “Is it Australia?” “Stop asking!” You get it.

I probably should have never tried to guess, because I knew that if I hit the nail on the head, Mr. Licorice would not be able to say no to me. Well, I didn’t stop. “Are we going to….Paris?” “Gosh, you always guess everything!” There you have it. I’m going to Paris, and I totally don’t care that I ruined the suprise! Mister made reservations at the beautiful Hotel Banville, which is further from the city center but near a metro stop. The interior is posh, but the hotel is a great deal due to its location. What fabulous destinations are y’all planning on visiting?

Pic From My Second Fitting

August 22nd, 2007 @ 2:28 pm by Mrs. Licorice

Man, oh man! My dress is still pretty much hacked up! It is not yet hemmed, and the lace needs to be tacked on in the front. Oh, and the seamstress has to open it up in the middle AGAIN to get rid of the odd bumpiness around the waistline.

Please excuse the extreme bloat.

Am I A Bad Friend?

August 20th, 2007 @ 1:23 pm by Mrs. Licorice

I really wanted to present my bridesmaids with Coach Wristlets as their bridesmaid gift. I had to pay for these myself, and with a part-time job at a clothing store, I had to save up! When the time came to purchase, I wasn’t in love with the wristlets available for what I could afford. I decided to trek to the Coach Factory store to see what they had. I found four large wristlets in four different styles that truly reflect their intended owners.

Let There Be Light, Part Deux

August 16th, 2007 @ 1:22 pm by Mrs. Licorice

After writing my last post on lighting, I did some more research on Adam Frank Lumens. As lovely as these fixtures are, they will not create the lighting effect I need. There is a huge blank wall behind where I would like to place the head table, and the shadow produced by the Lumen will be quite small in comparision. I was prepared to suck up the price of a lighting professional, but they were booked on my wedding date! Ack! So, back to the drawing board!

My new plan is quite involved (not really): lots and lots of candlelight! My florist is adding tall candelabras for my blank walls, and I’m adding an almost ridiculous amount of candles for other areas of the reception room. I hope that the overall vibe will be romantic and dreamy, and I think the soft glow will make for pretty pictures. Who doesn’t look good in a dim room? Ha.

Umm… I Don’t Get It

August 14th, 2007 @ 3:16 pm by Mrs. Licorice

I’ve never understood why most brides-to-be are forced to drink from penis straws and are duped into wearing condom adorned veils during their bachelorette parties. I just don’t get why this is so funny!

In order to unveil this mystery, I decided to do some research through an esteemed online publication: 101 Bachelorette Party Tips. Its homepage reads that “Bachelorette parties are renowned for inspiring women to really ’let their hair down.’ Frankly, women are seldom so naughty and as goofy as when they are giggling hysterically over a novel party favor, gag gift, or risqué party game. Males are objectified and generally ridiculed to gales of gleeful laughter.” Oh, I see. A little eye for an eye? Men objectify women, so women wear penis beads.

Here’s a gem from bachelorette.com: “Penis Straws set the mood for a great bachelorette party. Your bachelorette party guests will love these flesh colored plastic Penis Straws. I like to see the straws when everyone is done drinking to see who the biter of the group is. Then, we send the straw home with her to warn her man!”

I have nothing against women who find this hilarious; obviously many do. I just don’t understand the sudden fixation with penis once a bachelorette party is mentioned. I’ve never seen a bachelor running around town drinking from sippy cup fashioned to look like a vulva! Can someone shed some light?

Wow, I’m An Idiot

August 9th, 2007 @ 10:28 am by Mrs. Licorice

If you ever needed a reason not to do DIY projects in the wee hours of the morn’: I spelled my name wrong. I spelled my first name wrong.

Wow, I'm An Idiot : wedding DSC02887 00

The envelope reads “M I C H C L L E.” I didn’t catch this until the next day after I had already printed 50 envelopes. Teehee. This is only for the thank you notes. At least I remembered to proofread the invitations. It’s just as well, though, because I learned a superfly trick involving type on Adobe Illustrator. More on that later!

About The White Dress

August 8th, 2007 @ 9:33 am by Mrs. Licorice

I don’t think I was ever more indecisive about an article of clothing as I was about my wedding dress. There’s no point to this post other than to provide a fine excuse for looking at pretty frocks. :)

Observe, the bridal gown search…

Although I wanted to inject some traditional elements into the overall scheme of the wedding, I wanted a completely atypical dress.

Upon laying eyes on this at Kelly’s Closet, I immediately fancied myself as ethereal, whimsical bride:
