Post-Wedding Hair

November 6th, 2007 @ 2:14 pm by Mrs. Lovebird

I was actually planning on writing a post about this topic before someone brought it up on the Beehive.

Many brides like to grow their hair out for their wedding - I am one of them. But after the wedding day has come and gone and you feel the need for a shorter hairdo, what are your options? Instead of just going to the salon and having the stylist give you a makeover while all your pretty strands float slowly to the ground, you might want to consider donating your hair for a good cause.

One in three women will be diagnosed with cancer in her lifetime* and nearly 60% of women regard hair loss as the single worst side effect of cancer treatment.**

Sand Ceremony

November 5th, 2007 @ 1:27 pm by Mrs. Lovebird

A sand ceremony is ideal for a beach wedding or any other windy location which might pose a problem for the traditional unity candle. Like a unity candle, the blending of the sand symbolizes the joining of the bride and groom, or the joining of their families.

About Miss Lovebird

Mr. Lovebird got a little shy when I told him I was going to write this post, so I hope you all appreciate it. :)

On January 19, 2001 at the crack of dawn, Mr. Lovebird and I were pulling an all-nighter on the phone. So high school right? Well, we had just graduated high school six months earlier! Anyway, he asks, “Want to grab breakfast?” It was still dark outside when Mr. Lovebird hopped on a train from Chelsea to arrive at my doorstep under an umbrella. Even though the diner I loved was 35 block away, we decided to walk there in the rain. After breakfast, he walked me back home, asked if he could see me again that night, I said, “yes” and we said our goodbyes.

That night, the two of us met up at Apple near NYU. During dinner, he whips out a box with a white gold ring inside! Yes, a ring! Who does that?? Hehe, so he shyly asks, “Will you go out with me?” At this point it’s pretty obvious we just graduated high school because I don’t think people really ask that question in the adult dating world. I was shocked to say the least, but said “yes”. Inside the ring, he had engraved, “MAY BE MINE.”

The Proposal

October 30th, 2007 @ 1:50 pm by Mrs. Lovebird

How this all started…

It was September 2006. He was adamant that we stay at the all-inclusive Le Blanc Spa Resort, the #1 rated hotel on Tripadvisor, and I was pestering him that it was a waste so money to spend so much for a “regular” weekend getaway. We had been going out for over 5 and 1/2 years at this point. When the driver heard we were staying at Le Blanc, he asked if it was our honeymoon and I bitterly said, “No” and gave Mr. Lovebird a mean stare, jokingly of course.

The moment we stepped into the hotel the concierge greeted us by name, which I found a little strange, but I figured that’s what service at the “best hotel” in Cancun is like. We got an ocean-view room on the top floor without even asking; I figured we just lucked out. The concierge also asked if we were celebrating a special occasion and once again I replied with a “No.”

I Heart Cancun!

October 29th, 2007 @ 3:38 pm by Mrs. Lovebird

Cancun has certainly been my vacation destination of choice. I’ve been there… let me count…7 times!

Because I have been fortunate enough to stay at many great hotels in Cancun, I already have an idea of what it would be like to have my wedding there.

First off, it is helpful to point out that Cancun, Mexico is shaped like the number 7.

About Miss Lovebird

One of the most important aspects to a wedding is the photographer; as I’m sure you are all aware. So I’ve pondered over this question for some time now. Do I go with a US-based photographer or with a local, Cancun-based photographer?

There are so many talented photographers out there that this decision is almost impossible to make. Mrs. Ant’s post titled “The Ultimate Wedding Photography Blog List” was an invaluable resource for an indecisive bride-to-be like me. All the photographers there are amazing and I would be lucky to have any one of them. All my favorites were on there like: Angelica Glass, Scott Robert, Jessica Claire, Leigh Miller, Tony Yang, Something in Blue… the list goes on and on.

But what also stood out were the three Mexico-based photographers on her list: Sol Tamargo, Matt Adcock and Elizabeth Medina. Although they didn’t make Mrs. Ant’s list, two of my other favorites include DQ Studios and Claudia Rodriguez. I’m saving these photographers for Round 2.

Beach Wedding/Honeymoon Must Haves!

October 21st, 2007 @ 11:21 am by Mrs. Lovebird

One of the biggest worries when it comes to having a beach wedding is footwear! Heels and sand just doesn’t mix. During my research, I came across these and fell in love.

Will You Be Our Groomsman?

October 19th, 2007 @ 2:43 pm by Mrs. Lovebird

The very first DIY project Mr. Lovebird and I undertook together was working on how to ask our groomsmen if they would honor us by being in our wedding party. I always liked the idea of personalized water bottles, like Mrs. Firefly and Mrs. Caterpillar did, so I bounced that idea off of him and said maybe we can do beer bottles instead. After scouring the net for some bottle label images via Google Images, we settled on good old Guinness.

Les Inseparables

October 19th, 2007 @ 8:33 am by Mrs. Lovebird

Greetings from Miss Lovebird! Confused about the title of this post? That’s what the French call lovebirds! I can’t tell you all how excited I am to join the weddingbee hive! I’ve been reading weddingbee almost from its inception and many months before I even got engaged. Why did I choose to be Miss Lovebird you ask? I found out that lovebirds, when kept in pairs, will constantly groom each other and sit as close together as possible when sleeping. That’s what I do with Mr. Lovebird! Also, once a lovebird finds its “mate”, they mate for life and can sometimes be very territorial over those they care about. Mr. Lovebird thinks I’m that way with my friends and family and I don’t dispute it.

So a little about us… Mr. Lovebird and I met in 1996 during our freshman year at Stuyvesant High School in New York City. But, it wasn’t until our freshman year in college that we started dating. Then, we did the long-distance relationship for four years, him being at NYU and me being at Bryn Mawr in Pennslyviana. After graduating college, I came back to New York and went straight to law school. Mr. Lovebird proposed in Cancun last fall but the wedding planning was put on hold due to a family tragedy. I’ve since graduated and am now working as an associate at a T&E firm. Mr. Lovebird just started his first year in medical school, so you can say our lives are jammed packed right now!
