Once everyone was in place, I called out to Macs to see if he was ready. After a double thumbs up, I took a deep breath and told myself not to start crying before he’d even seen me.

There were two things I never talked about while blogging: choosing our photographer and my dress shopping experience. That’s because both decisions were made almost two years before our wedding. I may have spent entirely too long picking out a pair of shoes, but when it came to my dress, there wasn’t a doubt in my mind.

For those interested she’s called Sydney by Modern Trousseau. It was one of the first dresses I tried on and it just felt like me. If it were appropriate, I’d wear it every chance I could. I’ve thought about shortening it and maybe even dying it, but I’m not quite ready for that just yet.

Mr. Macs had a much more leisurely morning starting around noon with some Five Guys courtesy of groomsmen J.

When everyone finally arrived, it was time to open the first part of their gifts. Their initial enthusiasm was cut short when they realized a) they were shirts and b) they would need a good pressing.

Unfortunately, given our schedule, Cari started everyone else’s hair and make up about an hour and a half before our photographers arrived, so I apologize in advance for the surplus of photos of me.

When it was my turn in the hot seat, I was amazed at the amount of brushes laid out before me.

Meanwhile, MOH Sassy was a rock star juggling phones and giving directions, as well as checking up on the guys to make sure they were on schedule.

The day before the wedding was a lot more stressful than I expected. It all started around 10 AM with a text from Groomsman A, stating that his flight was delayed by three hours. An hour later, I received another text from my parents about car troubles. An hour after that, I found out that Bridesmaid Gunslinger was running behind as well due to work.

While I was in a state of panic, complete with lots of arm flailing and an expletive or two, Mr. Macs was of sound mind and called our reverend to push the rehearsal back an hour. A catastrophe was averted, and the mister and I were able to take care of a few important things, like stopping for gas and grabbing some protein bars and Red Bull before meeting everyone at the farm.

While we thought the Lange Farm was perfect, were weren’t sure what the rest of our friends and family would think. This was the first time many of them had seen the grounds, and judging from their pictures it would seem as though they appreciated it for the same reasons we did:

Hello everyone, remember me? I got married just shy of a year ago then pretty much went into hiding. Well, I’m back and I feel as though I owe you all an explanation.

I’m not one to make excuses, but when you and your future spouse both lose your jobs less than two months out from your wedding it kind of puts a damper on the whole experience.

Instead of being excited and looking forward to the wedding, I felt depressed and guilty for spending so much on one day. I was the one who wanted all the pomp and circumstance, not him. Yes, we did agree on the budget, but I felt solely responsible for the situation we now found ourselves in. All that money could have gone to savings and would have covered a few more months’ worth of bills while we searched for work. All that money would have also prevented my husband from deploying a mere five weeks after we tied the knot.

The Macarons are finally married and it was absolutely wonderful! All my weather worries were for naught, the ceremony brought our guests to tears, and our photo booth was a great last minute addition.

If you’re on the fence about having a first look I can’t recommend it enough. People aren’t joking when they say it’ll go by in the blink of an eye.

Marriage is about supporting each other when times are tough and taking time to celebrate the little things, no matter how trivial they may seem. You’re someone’s partner in life; it means you strap on a life vest before rafting and they take a deep breath before getting in line for roller coasters. You do things outside your comfort zone because you want to take part in what brings them joy.

This is it. Today is the day I become a Mrs.

Pretty soon I’ll get to step into my beautiful dress and make my way over to the farm. There will be plenty of cake and lots of dancing but all of that stuff pales in comparison to the true purpose of today. I’m marrying my best friend and the one I love with ever fiber of my being. Today, the adventure continues.

To say our reception venue is large is an understatement. The room can hold up to 250 guests, almost five times the amount of people we’re expecting. From the very beginning I knew we had to get a bit creative when it came to making it feel a bit more intimate, especially since we didn’t have a budget the size of Texas.

September is traditionally the worst month for tropical activity in the Atlantic. I’ve been judiciously stalking the National Hurricane Center for past two weeks, cursing every time a new formation appears. Hurricane Katia spared the northeast and it appears as though TS Maria will now hopefully do the same.

While I should be doing a happy dance that no major systems will throw a wrench in our plans the 10 day forecast doesn’t look too promising right now:

From the very beginning this has been our wedding. We’ve included lots of elements that are strictly us and I’m very fortunate in that mommy Macarons has been on board with just about everything. What’s the one point of tension?

Macs and I aren’t exactly fans, I loathe them in fact. I always feel under pressure to write something amazing and it’s only made worse because I know other guests can read what I’ve written. Since a guest book is meant to serve as a reminder of those that celebrated with you, why not have something with a little more presence?

While many people were out celebrating at the beach or having barbecues the Macs were in full on wedding mode! We finalized our seating arrangements, set our rehearsal dinner menu and made very a important stop at our venue for our final walk through.

I was a little worried going into it that our ribbon curtains and other decor would be too much to set up the morning of. I went over all the details with Lesa, our venue’s coordinator and not only did she say they’d be able to take care of everything, even down to setting out foofers and separating our straws and stirs, but that I’d be able to see everything setup the day before at our rehearsal! We totally lucked out as there are no other weddings scheduled for that weekend which is why we’re able to drop our stuff off earlier in the week.
