NC Holiday Bee Meet Up

January 29th, 2012 @ 2:40 pm by Mrs. Magic

We did have our holiday bee meet up—I was just a slacker bee who didn’t blog about it. Without further ado, here’s what happened!

We ate a boatload of cheese fondue. As in, we ordered two for our group, and then ordered an extra one. Yummmmmmm.

Helpful Series: My Latest Obsession

January 3rd, 2012 @ 7:08 am by Mrs. Magic

Originally published on May 9, 2011

Miss Dalmatian nominated Mrs. Magic’s inspirational post on ways to incorporate buttons into your wedding decor!

~~~
There are some aspects of wedding planning I am not that into. Like, the hard parts. I don’t really feel like picking out a florist and the honeymoon, while fun to think about, seems really daunting (and freakin’ expensive!) to plan, so I’d rather just ignore that right now.
Instead, I am using my tried and true method of making myself feel productive even when I am not getting anything meaningful accomplished. Like, you know, on days when you have to do laundry, and clean out your really extraordinarily messy car, and go exercise, and weed the garden, but you don’t really feel motivated at all, so you put things like Take a Shower and Starbucks on your to do list, just so you can feel like you completed a task or two?
Wait, you don’t do that? And your car’s not extraordinarily messy??? It’s just me? Oh.
Well, anyways, from my last post you may have predicted that my latest obsession is buttons. They are really freakin’ easy to make, plus I have a ton of fabric to continue making them. I already made buttons for the napkin rings, so I needed to find other projects that involved buttons. Here is a sampling for your viewing pleasure!
Button Boutonnieres
This kinda kills two birds with one stone, now doesn’t it? If I make button bouts, that eliminates the need for boutonnières from the florist, thereby decreasing the florist bill, which is the reason I am avoiding the florist in the first place! I am sooooooooooo smart.
Post-Wedding Feelings
November 10th, 2011 @ 10:05 am by Mrs. Magic
Let me tell you something.
Post-Wedding Feelings :  wedding chapel hill emotional 392082 392082_
Being married is awesome. But post wedding emotions are so confusing!
Like Mrs. Panther wrote about recently, I am having a lot of post-wedding feelings. Like, a LOT. And they are all jumbled up and are making me feel really confused and emotional and disorganized and stressed and happy.
First off, I think, like many of you who posted on Mrs. Panther’s posts, I just feel a bit of a void where wedding planning was.
I did it anyway. And now I have less than zero confidence in weather forecasters (no offense, meteorological bees!), and a whole heap of anxiety about the weather.
439 People Told Me NOT To Check the Weather :  wedding chapel hill Weather011 weather01
October 21st Weather Prediction / Screen shot from Weather.com
When I first started writing this post (on 10-21-2011) this was the forecast from Weather.com, whom I thought was the #1 weather authority. They themselves changed their mind about my wedding day weather no less than 5 times on October 21st, going from mostly cloudy to partly cloudy to scattered showers (the horror!) to mostly cloudy. Yes, I checked it, like, twenty seven times. What, is that a lot or something?
You might be thinking “Why are you freaking out, Magic? You are always so stressed! Take a chill pill, yo, that weather forecast looks fine!”
Are Wedding Gifts Necessary?
October 23rd, 2011 @ 3:00 pm by Mrs. Magic
I’m not talking about gifts from guests…obviously those are necessary (just kidding!…not really…). I’m talking about the bride and groom giving gifts to each other. I mean, of course it’s not necessary…but it’s fun!
I’m not sure Mr. Magic is getting me a gift or not. If he does, I hope he gets me something like this, but maybe a tad smaller. And less expensive. And, you know… fake.
I Think I Am Going to Vomit
October 18th, 2011 @ 6:17 am by Mrs. Magic
I am getting married next week, y’all. NEXT. WEEK. That is, like, practically tomorrow.
Also, I drank three glasses of wine tonight.
Also, I haven’t been sleeping and I feel kind of nauseous all the time. (No, I am not pregnant.) Yes, the wine helps with that…OK, with the sleeping part at least.
I’m not nauseous about marrying Mr. Magic. I mean, we fight and stuff, sure, but we are good together. He’s like the yin to my yang. Or, like this:
North Carolina, Come On and Raise Up
October 14th, 2011 @ 3:03 pm by Mrs. Magic
Alternate title: “I got 99 Problems, But Getting Legally Married Ain’t One.”
I’ve been kind of complainy lately. I whined about how too many people love us and are coming to our wedding. And about my rehearsal dress being too white and shiny. And those damn time-consuming invitations that made me lose my mind.
But, on the eve of the day when Mr. Magic and I will go to the courthouse to get our marriage license, I realize that while I might have a lot of first-world problems, there is one problem I don’t have—and that’s getting legally married.
You Like Us! You Really Like Us!
October 11th, 2011 @ 3:23 pm by Mrs. Magic
Alternate Title: There are a Boatload of People Coming to Our Wedding.
Alternate Title #2: The One Thing I Would Change About This Wedding Process.
We invited approximately 177 people to our wedding. I say approximately because there were a couple of last minute add ons coughbytheMisterandhisfamilynotmecough that I don’t think ever officially got on the list-list. They got an invite, but maybe weren’t actually added to the Google doc that holds all the relevant guest info. Whatevs. Not my problem.
Anyway, I was a little nervous. I was initially hoping for 100 people, and then I decided that was unrealistic and bumped that number up to 120, maybe 130. I may have been that bride that opens up the RSVPs and wishes “Please, be a no!” But it turns out, people like us a freaking lot.
“You Are Not a Desk”
October 4th, 2011 @ 10:40 am by Mrs. Magic
This is what my famous seamstress, Olga Samarskaya, told me. OK, she might only be famous to us North Carolina brides. Maybe a few South Carolina and Virginia brides too. She is legend.
I had three dress fittings total. Sorry, I haven’t showed you my dress yet, because I am a bad blogger paranoid and have decided it’s bad luck. Besides, it’s almost my wedding day, and if I have held out this long, I can wait a few weeks more.
Anyway, on my second dress fitting, I noticed parts of the dress were not lying flat. So I asked Olga, “Will this be smoother when the dress is steamed?” She replied, “No, honey, you are not a desk.” Except she said it with her thick Russian accent, and I was all “……………………..what???”
So once I understood that she actually had declared that I am not a desk, I was like “Oh, uh huh, ok…wait, what?”
So, I’ve been meaning to do a ring post for a while, and then, seriously, I was thinking about how I should try to take a pic with my cat and my ring, and then Miss Fox posted her post that said that cat-and-ring photos are tough, and then I saw Smizz lying there all sweet and I thought, “Let’s do this.” So we did.
