The next stop on our honeymoon was to a place that we would never have considered if it wasn’t part of the cruise itinerary. We had never heard anything about Dubrovnik, Croatia until booking our trip, and after booking, we kept hearing how beautiful it was. “Beautiful” ended up being quite the understatement.
We arrived in Dubrovnik and added some sunrise pictures to our collection before setting off on our Croatian safari.

Another country, another sunrise! After a day at sea, we arrived in Santorini, Greece on the seventh day of our Mediterranean cruise.

After spending time in Florence and Rome, we continued down the coast and arrived in Naples. We took yet another tour bus to the ancient city of Pompeii.
Here are a few things we learned while exploring:
1. The city was buried under ash after Mt. Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD, and was rediscovered in 1748. You can see Mt. Vesuvius in the background of most of the pictures.
On the fifth day of our honeymoon, we arrived in the port of Civitavecchia, which is the port near Rome. We had a full day excursion ahead of us so we grabbed some breakfast and set off with our tour group.

Fact: The honeymoon posts seem to be well-received, but they take a really long time to write! And I’m feeling lazy today. So, sorry. Rather than not posting anything, I’ll leave you with a bunch of pictures of me and my husband! Exciting, I know. But these are some of our pre-wedding/engagement pictures that were taken two days before our wedding. Our photographers Deb and Matt were awesome, and wanted to come up to the Yoop a few days early to see what Upper Michigan had to offer. We took them on a little tour of the area and they took some beautiful pictures along the way. Here are some of our favorites for your viewing pleasure.
We left France and headed for Italy on day 4 of our honeymoon. We arrived in Livorno, enjoyed yet another sunrise, and headed to Florence.

After taking a day to recover on the boat, we arrived at our first port of Cannes, France at sunrise. Since our excursion was an early one, we had a chance to enjoy the beautiful view of the coast before our tour.

Still dark…
It seems a little surreal to think that we’ve already been married for a month! I think it’s safe to say it’s been the best month of my life thus far. What better way to celebrate our one month anniversary than by sharing a couple more pictures of the wedding day?

Our journey to our honeymoon was a long one. It started on Sunday, September 6th, at approximately 6:00 AM. Yes, we woke up at 6 AM the day after our wedding! We showered, got ready, and packed all of our things before making our way to my parents’ house to say goodbye to our families. We had a short visit and a homemade breakfast, hugged our parents and sisters, and we were on our way. We would have loved to stay to visit and open gifts, but we had a flight to catch!
We drove the 4.5 hours back to our apartment outside Chicago, switched luggage, and did a quick load of laundry before getting picked up to go to the airport.

Enjoying our ride to the airport.
It’s too hard to narrow it down. I asked for a teaser or two to tide you all over (who am I kidding, to tide myself over), and our photographers delivered. They delivered 53 teasers, to be exact. But you’ll have to survive on three for today.
I have a confession to make. We’ve been back from our honeymoon for a whole week and I haven’t blogged about the wedding yet. For some reason, I’ve been nervous to write my first post as a Mrs., but I suppose today is as good a day as any! My husband (HUSBAND!!) and I have been busy putting our life and apartment back together after neglecting them for three weeks. And of course, enjoying our time together as newlyweds!
The wedding was a wonderful whirlwind of events and emotions. Of course, everything didn’t go exactly as planned, but it was still perfect to us! We didn’t want to leave at the end of the night, and neither did our guests!
And the honeymoon… our Mediterranean honeymoon was AMAZING. I have so many wonderful experiences and pictures to share with you! I’ll be posting honeymoon recaps while I wait for our pro pics, so you’ll hear from me again soon!

To my almost husband-
Today is the day. The day we have been planning, stressing, and obsessing over for the past 14 months. The day that we’ve been waiting so patiently for during these past 8 years. I’ll never forget that day way back when we were teenagers, the day when we were talking on the phone, and the words “I love you” slipped out of your mouth. The day that I said, “I love you, too.” That day lead to this day, and there are many more wonderful days to come. Today is the day where we become a family, husband and wife, forever and ever, and I am so glad it is finally here.
Love you today and every day,
Holly
Well, one of us is off. The car is packed and I’ll be making my way back to the UP tonight after work! My fiance (that’s one of the last times I’ll get to say that word) will be staying for one more night and coming up on Wednesday after work. The rest of the week will be filled with the projects I couldn’t do from afar, mainly packaging the favors and putting together the OOT bags, final meetings with a few vendors, etc. The decorating at the reception site begins tomorrow as well, so I’ll be checking in now and then to see the progress. Maybe I’ll even post the progress if I have time (keyword: IF)!
Until then, I’ll leave you with a picture of the last project I finished yesterday: the escort card display! Sorry for the terrible picture, but the cameras are already packed so I had to resort to using my phone. The escort cards are finished as well, and they will hang from the ribbons going across the board. Thank you to the lovely Mrs. Quiche for the last minute inspiration and escort card cutting assistance!

If you are thinking, ‘that is one huge escort card board,’ you are right…

With only a little over a week left until the wedding, I cannot help but look past the wedding and move on to the honeymoon. Don’t get me wrong, I am very excited for the wedding, the marriage, and everything that comes with being husband and wife. But at this point I am slightly stressed, a little anxious, and looking forward to VACATION!
The morning after the wedding we’ll be waking up early (well, relatively early, considering the fact that it’s the day after our wedding) and making the drive back to Chicago. We’ll be switching our bags with our pre-packed honeymoon luggage, grabbing a bottle of champagne, and taking a nice ride in a town car to the airport.
Wondering where we’re going?
Well let’s see. We’ll start in Barcelona, where we board our 12-day Mediterranean cruise!

This weekend, we’re off to the first of four weddings (not counting our own) that we have to go to in the next nine weeks. Yes, that means 5 out of 9 weekends will be spent celebrating marriage. Talk about a wedding marathon! And to top it off, 2 of the additional weekends (or weeks, actually) will be spent on our honeymoon (to be blogged about soon, I swear!). It’s going to be a busy two months in the Mascara household!
