I’ve finally got my proof to show that Mr. Milkshake initiated the cake smash, even when he had agreed not to!
I am so blown away with how our StillMotion Super8 video turned out. Their photographer extraordinaire, Amina, flew across the country to give up her trusty SLR to man a camcorder that was circa 1970 for the day. I love the composition of every shot and just how tightly she framed everything… it’s like she shot it with a 200mm lens, and I love, love, love it. Amina was able to pick up her camera two days later to produce these awe-inspiring images of our TTD. Read more…

I think most of us would agree that the cinematography put out by Still Motion is hands-down phenomenal. Their ace video man and ace photo lady were recently married in perhaps the most gorgeous setting in the world - St. Lucia. It was photographed by one of my all-time favorites, Justin Demers, out of Ontario.

I volunteered to shoot my girlfriend’s wedding as a favor this summer, so this is the first of four free weddings that I’m shooting this spring in preparation for her wedding. The bride loves this song, and I figured that putting this together for her would turn out a lot more fun than a typical slideshow (despite its somewhat anti-wedding lyrics).

The bride-to-be (pictured below, not above) gets hitched this coming weekend. Who knew the suburbs would have such a thriving nightlife? I thought the only place you could club-crawl was downtown, but I was wrong! A few of the girls drew up a list of to-dos for the evening, which included kissing a bald man’s head, asking the oldest man in the room to dance, asking a guy for a condom… etc. Read more…

When I posted photos of the MyPublisher album I made for my cousin, someone asked me to post pictures of our MyPublisher wedding guestbook, so here it is. I have a little more insight on the process and the end result at the end of this post. It involved a lot of scanning by me, Mr. Milkshake, and my dad.
I coerced our best man into making write-ups for the bridal party for the first page of our guestbook, so on top of his best-man-speech stress, he was able to come up with these:
The groom:
He is a man of few words and determined will. He can also memorize a textbook in less time than it takes you to eat lunch. Be wary when he begins to use gibberish, it probably means he’s experiencing extreme emotions, or he’s hungry, or he missed a rare item in the latest RPG. Read more…

MyPublisher is always having deals and promotions. There’s a $10 off $50+ voucher right now (VAL10) and recently, I made use of the ’buy one get one free’ to produce a quick, affordable album for my cousin and his family while they no doubt wait to receive their pro pics. While there is certainly legitimate value in the very expensive pro-albums as far as image quality and the thickness and durability of their pages, places like MyPublisher offer a great alternative for the poor-bride’s album. Just don’t mark it up with greasy fingerprints! We used one for our wedding guestbook and had the guests sign the pages, and I was pretty happy with how it turned out.

Here are the few short-lived moments I enjoyed with my D-SLR the day of the wedding. I do somewhat regret not making use of it when I had it in tow and had a bit of down-time throughout the day, though it was perhaps a little more silly of me to forget about our credit-card sized point-and-click the whole day.
I made everyone’s jewelry (which literally took place within 14 hours of these photos being taken), and aimed to create chunky, opaque necklaces, which proved to be just as stunning and bold as I thought they would be. Just look how these necklaces stand out in the photographs! I spent an exorbitant amount of money on gemstones, despite my fifty percent wholesale discount, with the intent of using just a few stones from each strand for each necklace. However, each one of my girls, completely independent of each other, picked up one particular strand, and immediately wrapped it around her neck. While certainly not expensive, it was the only one I had, and this gal below ended up getting it in the end:

I’m going to preface this post by saying that I’m shooting weddings for three friends this upcoming year as a free gesture, and I’d love to get some more intense, day-of practice under my belt. So if there’s anyone in the Seattle area, and potentially Vancouver, BC, that is interested in having Mrs. Milkshake follow you around pro-bono, photojournalist-style for your big day in the next few months, please let me know by making a comment here in the classifieds section. These are some photos I took purely as a guest at the end of December at my cousin’s Hawaiian wedding.
I flew to Hawaii for one night to go to my cousin’s wedding, by myself, because I couldn’t get any more time off work and my husband couldn’t get time off, period. Read more…

Phew! Long time no post! I thought I would backtrack and blog about a few things pre-wedding before I inundated you all with my pro pics from the big day. My hair actually turned out very lovely the first time around… my mom’s and my maid of honor’s, though, not so much. To be fair, the above photo wasn’t Vanessa’s finished product, although it does capture the end result for my mom. And the words that came to mind were: Big, Southern hair. Read more…

By now I think everyone is very familiar with the wicked cinematography skills of the men at Still Motion (see our same-day-edit and trash-the-dress) but there is also one powerhouse of a female photographer behind it all, too. Amina gave up her camera on our wedding day to shoot video in Super8, and we had so many guests tell us just how undaunted she was to literally jump up onto a skinny, beveled ledge with a good 1.5-2 story drop below to get a shot while our photographer stood up on the sturdy bench firmly cemented to the ground. She lived up to what I’d been hearing the past few months—that she’s pretty bold when it comes to achieving the perfect shot. Read more…

Alright ladies, this one has been a long time in the making.
Despite the fact that these talented folks have proven themselves beyond capable of putting together a same day edit in less than 60 minutes, Patrick from still-motion spent many a night over the past few months searching for the perfect song to go with some truly amazing photographs, vintage super8, and his highly stylized video work (and if you missed my SDE, check it out here).

Mr. Milkshake’s family threw us a fabulous pre-wedding Chinese banquet with a fantastically plated 10 course meal at Kirin in Richmond, BC. Mr. Milkshake’s mom had gifted me the cutest cheongsam I’ve ever seen, with two lovebirds, which, as you’ll notice, is not red (shame on me!).

Here’s a picture of my maid of honor and I. I must admit, I think I look pretty darn cute!
Mr. Milkshake and I share a common disdain for clubbing and bars. I feel like I’m always the only sober one in the gross, sweaty crowd of strangers watching everyone around me acting stupidly. I’ve learned to bring my earplugs (yes, earplugs) because it freaks me out if I’m unable to hear the next day. So when it came time for my bachelorette party, I knew exactly what I wanted: Read more…

I feel like I have about 2 month’s worth of blogging to catch up on, so before I go ahead and post gads of honeymoon photos before I even get to the wedding bits, I thought I’d go back to the bridal shower that my mom threw. When my mom had no words to respond to my lingerie shower idea, I put together the funnest games I could think of:
For someone that claimed she’d never played the game before, my mom was Madame Pictionary (see spunky lady in yellow, below). She even guessed one answer before anything but four lines were drawn (fatherofthebride). Read more…
