I’m super artsy at heart - I run an indie craft site, I grew up shooting and developing my own film, doing jazz and ballet, and the whole gamut of art classes. I’ve been called a Jane of all Trades… but I was also told many years ago not to make my passion my career because it’d suck the fun out of it. Hence my choice of day job. We took our entourage bowling after. And an ivory dress doesn’t hit the blacklight like I had hoped. My feathers look cool though!

I’m going to turn to the only people that could possible have any fathom of an answer for me. We are having 82 guests, and an hour between the ceremony and the dinner (all at the same location). Right now our hors d’oeuvres menu looks like this, which includes fancy ones and platters, but I’m wondering if it’s overkill. I have no concept of what 82 people could eat in an hour, and afterward we are having a buffet dinner…

I dragged Mr. Milkshake to Snohomish, a small town boasting antique stores near Seattle, one weekend in the wicked heat to check out their antique stores for random bits of furniture. I walked away at the end of the day with a sweet vintage hat and a rekindled desire to use a milk glass cake stand at our wedding. Most varieties are white, but it might be neat to nurture my passion for complementary colors by featuring an orange mango cake on a 9″ blue stand. A white one can certainly double as very classic, functional, collectible…. and while the white is very understatedly simple, I am in love with their undersides. Here’s a smattering from a few I’m following on ebay.

Planning our wedding entirely by myself has had its advantages. Using our own money for the wedding enables us to call all our own shots and allows for us to avoid many discrepancies with my own family as well as my future family. However, the value in delegation is something that no bride should do away with at the two-week-to-the-wedding-mark. I asked my mom to make a big trip to Ikea to buy these $1.99 vases ($2.99 in Canada), to help me out, and help include her in the wedding. Instead of buying the vases, she noted that “those opaque vases you’re talking about are so ugly, I’ve already planned to have tall clear vases from Costco and fill them with gelling-water-medium and hydrangeas, they’ll look much better.” Read more…

Some photos from one of my bridesmaid’s mini photo session - a considerably abbreviated version of any and all dress orgies the rest of the women in my life went through. She’s so gorgeous!

Thank you Zappos for 365 day returns, free shipping, free return shipping, and for overnighting my order without me even expecting it. The UPS guy carried a huge box to my doorstep and said, “that’s a lot of shoes!”

I’d originally been a little wary of shelling out the dough for either a traveling hair stylist or a morning at the hair salon, but I guess it’s a necessary evil. While I will enlist a few friends to do our makeup, I guess our hair (or at least mine) should be left up to the professionals.
What I’m looking for is a bright, modern or colorful salon to create a great backdrop for my 12+ hours of video and photography. Unfortunately, planning from out of town, a lot of the top Vancouver salons’ websites leave a lot to be imagined. So if anyone has any feedback about these places, either hair-wise or actual salon-look-wise, or any other salon suggestions in or around Vancouver, I’m all ears!

I so badly want these Nesting Lotus Bowls. The first set is from Gumps at $95 for eight bowls. The second is handmade with love by Whitney Smith at etsy. She even makes them in white! Theonly problem is that the only way I could feasibly register for everything I want online is to go through myregistry.com, and I don’t know how to really decode their privacy policy.

Who knew that I could get all this, from simply starting a wedding registry. Not all of them are necessarily this summer season, but who cares! All of us here, dating, engaged and married alike, all know how expensive bridal magazines are. I was thrilled to get a measly heart shaped candy dish when I registered at Crate and Barrel, but Sears in Canada gave me visual reading material!

Yay! Mama Milkshake number two (Mr. Milkshake’s mom) bought two hot little numbers for herself. It’s so nice to see our mothers in dresses, so here’s her very own tribute in the few photos I was able to snap of her. This particular store in Vancouver’s Chinatown had tonnes of dresses that were in the $50-99 price range and alterations seemed to be complimentary! They have a good handful of these stores in Vancouver’s Chinatown, and I realized a little while ago that Seattle offers nothing of the sort. My friend rented a Cheong Sam from a local Seattle shop for her wedding because that was the only option.

I thought with the final decision on the bridesmaid dress, we’d seen the last of my dress orgies…but I was wrong. There are more dresses in the world for me to try on! And it turns out that Mr Milkshake is a pretty darn good photographer!
This blueish-green one below is perhaps even more stunning in this photo than when I tried it on. The color is gorgeous and not garish, and the yellowy-peach details go so well with my skin tone.

I decided to lead this post with that photo above (photoshopped up the wazoo with Jesh de Rox’s textures) because I figured this post would garner some bridezilla accusations, or at least some finger shaking.

Our work dress code mandates that men wear ties, and the other day Mr. Milkshake came home and tossed his around my neck.
Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like every wedding photo I see nowadays involves tux + necktie, rendering the pricey tux to look like a plain old suit. Although we’re most definitely going to go the bow tie route, and this post would have perhaps been a bit more helpful pre-father’s day, I remembered there were some fantastic hand silkscreened ties on etsy.com. Much love to one of sweetest people I know, the girl in the photo above. She made a special trip to come visit us since she’s spent the last couple years in Ottawa and won’t be able to make it to our wedding, and made my day by gladly accepting my offer to do her wedding photography when her big day came. So she gets a pretty photo on Weddingbee because I like posting lots of photos and it’s really hard to snap a picture of myself with a 7 pound camera. Read more…
